Think you are an Access 2000 master?,
By JRK "jkunz" (N.H.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Access 2000 Developer's Handbook 2 Volume Set (Paperback)
Then pick up this two-volume set and confirm it! I'll bet you there are still tips and tricks that you can learn and this set will show them to you. Both books definitely fall under the Intermediate-Advanced Access 2000 users category....Volume 1 still covers mostly design environment topics, like advanced reporting & forms, SQL, using ADO code to loop through recordsets, VBA tricks, working with other Office apps. If you are looking for advanced Access info like migrating to SQL Server, optimizing multiuser performance, Data Access Pages or setup/deployment of an application, look at Volume 2. I can't even get in to the level of detail these books provide, so here are just a few examples of tips/tricks I found useful in my corporate development: 1. Building an Append query in Access query viewer that actually hits an external Excel or .txt file. There are plenty more that I could add but I assume you get the picture! If you are very comfortable with Access, you need this set to complete your library and call yourself an Access Master!

Valuable Resource for Access Development,
By Stephen M. Suazo (Billings, Montana) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Access 2000 Developer's Handbook 2 Volume Set (Paperback)
As a small developer, my resources for materials is somewhat limited among the thousands available. I have found the Developer's Handbook(s) from Sybex to be valuable in my daily development. They are written so that beginning chapters are easily understand even by beginning developers and continue on with a wealth of reference for the most advanced. With these books, I can honestly say that I have not yet found any programming problem I cannot solve.

Simply the best...,

I've been programming in Access for over six years and have never come across a more comprehensive and easy-to-follow set of books than these Developer's Handbooks (both Desktop and Enterprise). I started with the 2000 version and will always purchase the next versions as they become available. As an old Access 95 Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) I thought I knew the majority of the ins-and-outs of Access programming. Paul Litwin, Ken Getz, Mike Gunderloy - I give you my thanks for teaching this old dog new tricks.

The one stop source for every Access question you could ever think of. Too much information for the casual user, if your serious about Access then this set is for you. The two CD's that come with the set are very useful. The sheer volume of information made it a difficult task at times to locate the information you needed. Nevertheless, every question I had I found covered in complete detail. This is a must have for anyone who really wants to get the most out of Access!

Having tried several books on MS Access 2000, this is the first to solve my problems. The two volumes are organized in a theme-based fashion, heavily oriented around the numerous ready-to-use code examples, few of which you will find elsewhere. The sheer amount of specific information is overwhelming, making some parts of the book somewhat hard to follow. Still, this is more than anything else a sign of excellence and expertise. The language is clear and reads easily. I recommend this book for anyone doing serious programming with MS Access.

This book and the series really do blow all the others away.,

This review is from: Access 2000 Developer's Handbook 2 Volume Set (Paperback)
This is my 4th book ive purchased for access database programing...This one and particularly the series are the best of the ones ive had. It was slighty more expensive, but well worth it.The cdrom included contains all the code in the book, and there stacks of code. Its pretty cool. You can copy and paste them into your own applications and it can save hours. I wouldnt suggest it for a begginer though. Its pretty hardcore. Hope this helps you make a decision.

Excelent Reference,

These books is simply awesome. I have worked with Access for 7 years now, and have worked with more than 15 books that teach Access. These books are simply the best I have worked with. While they won't teach you the basics of working with Access, they will teach any knowledgeable Access programmer how to take their Access applications to the next level. I would recommend these books to anyone serious about developing professional applications with Microsoft Acess.

The best computer books for your money,
By
This review is from: Access 2000 Developer's Handbook 2 Volume Set (Paperback)
In 7+ years of VB/VBA development, I have purchased many, many reference books. Most of them have been very helpful. The Access 2000 Developer's Handbook 2 Volumn Set surpasses all others in terms of width, breadth, and depth of information (as well as in sheer weight). Many development reference books contain CDs with freebies, code examples, etc. The CD in Volume 1 is the first one from which I have ever cut and paste code. The pop-up calendar in Chapter 8 and the CommonDlg class in Chapter 17 were most helpful. As stated in other reviews, these books are really for advanced developers and they are relatively expensive, but they literally paid for themselves the first time I opened them up for help.

The best computer books I've laid my eyes on,

This review is from: Access 2000 Developer's Handbook 2 Volume Set (Paperback)
These are invaluable resources to anyone who wants to develop Access based database solutions. They were not written for begginers, but if you feel you can program in Access and need the absolute best books on the market, these are the ones to buy. I've been buying the books since the Access 95 version and I own several other Access books. These are clearly the best, not only in content, but also in the way content is presented. I own tens of computer books and these are at the top of the list regarding usefulness of content, completeness and readability. I haven't made the move to Access 2002, but I'me sure going to buy the 2002 set when I do it.

Lots of useful information...,
By "kalfred" (Snow Camp, NC USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Access 2000 Developer's Handbook 2 Volume Set (Paperback)
These books are great resources for the Advanced Access Developer. Let me stress the word "Advanced". You should have a good understanding of Access and VBA before using these books or you may find yourself lost in a sea of overwelming information. The only real grip I have about the set is their size. I would have been willing to pay extra if the set were broken down into 4 easy to manage books instead of 2 monster 1000+ page books. At any rate if you're already comfortable with Access 2000, these books are a must have.
