This lock feels sturdy. However, as commented elsewhere, the sequence of buttons pressed does not matter. So the combination '12345' is equivalent to '54321' or '23451' , etc.

It takes a 5-digit combination, a 6-digit combination, or a 7-digit combination. Your best security is with a 5-digit combination because there are 252 5-digit combinations. (10 choose 5, mathematically). There are 210 possible 6-digit combinations, and 120 possible 7-digit combinations.

Assuming that the attacker (who's trying to break in) doesn't know how many digits you chose, this means there are 582 possible combinations. If we assume it takes about five (5) seconds to test each one, and you take a 15-second break every minute, then an attacker could find your combination in about 65 minutes. (582 combinations * 5 seconds / 45 seconds of work per minute => 65 minutes). And that's assuming yours is the very-last combination he tries.

(Finally, my Discrete Mathematics class is paying off!)

This is the only KeySafe that I will buy. However, the newer models are painted with a very dark black-brown finish. Since the numbers for the combination buttons are also painted over, it is very difficult to see the numbers in daylight, and virtually impossible at night.

Used this for outside emergency acess for about two months. Worked great until I dropped it once and the plastic "guts" broke into pieces. Took it apart to see if I could realign something to fix it but the 5 numbers I was using as the combo had all broken internally. Bad design by my standards, I would think it should withstand a drop from 3 feet and survive.

Product seems adequate for our summer rental. A little but too UN-complicated however. Anyone can easily re-set the code.

I tested my box about 10 times before I hung it on the water pipe. I tested it in place a few more times. The lock and buttons were tight but worked. Later that day when I was showing a friend how to work it, it would not open! How could I return an item that was permanently locked on my water pipe along with my spare key? Finally a thought... WD40. I sprayed it lots and lots around the buttons and the lock. Finally it opened. I like the box, but I'm wary. I don't even mind the black on black.

These are great lockboxes. I am Realtor, and I use these all of the time. There are other lockboxes that cost less, but they are not as safe and secure as these ones.

This lock is very secure, however, it's very big for only holding 2 keys...I actually stuffed 4 keys in there (but I had to fit them in there like puzzle pieces so get them in there so if you have big keys then you'll only be able to fit 2). The combination is easy to set and reset (however, it's not a sequential combination and each number can only be used once...if you select 3-1-4-2-8 then you just push down the numbers in any order (if you push 1-2-3-4-8 then it will open). That doesn't seem as secure as a sequential combination but I had my friend try to open it without giving him the combination and he was at for 2 hours before giving up...just don't choose something stupid like 1-2-3-4 or have it set to include every number and it's plenty secure.

This device seems solid and secure. Despite its size, however, I was surprised by the relatively small amount of free space actually available for the keys. The internal component of the locking mechanism is fairly thick and therefore its "depth" eats into the storage space. Overall I'm pleased with the purchase.

This works great if you have a rental property and your not in the area to give the guest the key to get in. Just leave one in the box, put additional ones inside the property on a hook. It will hold two keys comfortably.
