As an excellent guide to getting started with accessibility and a must-have for anyone's reference collection, this book truly lives up to its name "Understanding the Section 508 Accessibility Requirements." Having been an Accessibility tester for 2.5 years now, I recommend this book to anyone working with or considering Accessibility support.(...)

I know that Mr. Mueller writes great books--from reading other books he's written. You can rely on his depth of research, and the clarity of this writing. If you're interested in Accessibility, you'll find it thoroughly covered here.

Not the "How To" I was hoping for, but a lot of useful information nonetheless. I am responsible for Section 508 compliance at work and deal mostly EI&T rather than the physical applications, but this has a lot of good information as to what to plan for and how to avoid many problems regarding accessibility issues. Worth the price, but use it as a reference along with other publications such as those by Karen MaCall.

This book is OK, and one can glean much regarding accessibility, but I find myself wanting to categorize it as supplemental to other reading. Certainly, it is known that Microsoft is noteworthy for its support of accessibility features in Windows operating systems, but the author provides many discussions specific to the MS Windows environment, .Net and so forth. This is not a problem as there is much generic material to absorb. It is noteworthy that the title reflects upon the 508 legal code and once one progresses beyond the system programming examples in the early chapters of the book, the section on Web Accessibility promises more openness. The author is very good about stressing the need for usability testing and touches upon topics ranging from specialized devices and design and development requirements. Again, it's a good companion book to other readings. |
