Steele's Accident - Shattered lives due to accident or fate?,
By Kelsey Nouse (Bedford, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Accident (Mass Market Paperback)
Was everything just an accident, or perhaps fate? Danielle Steele's Accident is one of Steele's better books. If you want a book you absolutely can't put down, this is the book for you! Accident is a powerful, and yet triumphant novel, of lives that were shattered and changed by one devastating moment. With Page's husband being a business man he is not home a lot but Page Clarke feels blessed with her, what seems to be, happy family and comfortable marriage. They have a house near San Francisco and she keeps busy looking after their seven-year-old son, Andy, and their teenage daughter, Allyson. Allyson, who is fifteen, lies to her mom and instead of going out with her friend Chloe, the girls go out with two older high school boys. But a Saturday night that was supposed to be fun doesn't quite end up that way. Instead, there is an awful "accident" that takes place when their car collides head-on with another car driven by the mayor's wife. At the hospital, Page finds Chloe's divorced father, Trygve. She is unable to locate Brad so her and Trygve lean on each other throughout the the long hours at the Marion hospital. Will Allyson live? Will any of them? Were the teenagers drinking? Using drugs? Who was at fault? And where is her husband? Without Brad by her side Page feels her life start to come apart and at the same time is trying to deal with the fact that her daughter may not live and if she does, she may never be the same again. I read this novel in 5 days; no joke! This novel is impossible to put down. The beginning brought about a relaxing view of Page's life and makes the reader interested in finding out more. Then, all of the sudden, fate occurs and the rest of the story just grabs your heart right away. It leaves you wondering, "What happens next?" and you find yourself not being able to put this novel down. And the end of the novel makes it worth reading even more! I enjoyed reading this book and would even read it again. Steele's character development was once again, great. Every character in her books can be closely related in someway to our own lives. She did an exceptional job getting into the head of Page in Accident. Her character is admired by the reader. She was a very strong character and it played an important role in the other character's lives in the book. Accident has a plot that is definitely believable. A tragic car accident, a marriage gone wrong, the pain of a little boy who feels like his life is falling apart, and the heart ache of a mother who is trying desperately to hold her family, plus her own life, together, makes up a great, touching story. Even the emotions felt in this book were so down to earth and real with today's society. The plot was developed and every situation and circumstance made sense and ended in triumph by the end of the story. I didn't get confused at all and her sentence and word structure made complete sense. Accident was an inspiring novel that shows just how many people are affected by one tragic accident and how they survive it. Danielle Steel makes it seem as though the characters lives are similar to our own... and who live, like the rest of us, in a world where everything can change in a single moment. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a truly inspirational novel to read and not be able to put down. Danielle Steele definitely earns 5 stars in this novel.

emotional, engrossing reading,

This review is from: Accident (Mass Market Paperback)
The novel, Accident, written by Daniel Steel is fast paced and heart stopping. This book is about two girls, Allyson and Chloe, who lie to their parents to go out with older boys. They go out in one of the boys cars and get into an accident. Page Clark, Allyson's mother, rushed to the hospital to see what happened. Her husband, Brad, is once again out of town on a business trip, but this time he did not leave a phone number where she can contact him. This not only makes Page upset because she cannot let her husband know that their daughter was in an accident, but also confused because she doesn't know what he might really be doing. Page is stuck at the hospital, alone, trying to deal with the fact that Allyson may not survive. That is, until she meets Trygve, Chloe's father, who stays with Page as much as he can to give her the support she needs. As they become closer friends, Brad is still no where to be found, and the doctors don't know what will happen to Allyson. The book Accident is a very engrossing book. I found myself reading a little bit of it before going to bed. I would put the book away and crawl into bed. Within a few minutes, I was out of bed, had the light on, and was reading more of the book. Daniel Steel did an excellent job of bringing the characters to life. She made the main character, Page, soemone that anyone can relate to in some way or another. This book in not just some sappy romance novel, it is a book that brings out all of the human emotions. At some parts I was crying, laughing, angry, smiling, upset, disapointed, confused, and wondering. This boook always keep you wondering on what will happen next. Accident is an outstanding book that I reccommend to everyone.

VERY EXCITING!,

Accident is the first Danielle Steel book I read and it was wonderful. It kept me in suspense as to what would happen next. It made me think about how I would feel if I was in Page's place and had to go on wondering if my daughter would live or be disabled for the rest of her life and on top of it to find out that my husband has been cheating. I read this book overnight because I just couldnt put it down. I cant wait to read other DS books. She is great and I hope her other books are as good as Accident. If you want to read and exciting good book read this one.

this book made me cry, smile, laugh, and get angry. it is a very touching story about Page, her husband, Brad, and their children, Allyson and Andy. It starts off as Allie lieing to her mother about where is going and who she is going with. While out with her friends, Allie is involved in a tragic car accident. As Allie lays on a very thin line between life and death, Page feels her whole life fall apart in a matter of days. As she tries to find her find her husband to tell him about Allie's accident, he comes to realize that he is cheating on her. Just when Page thinks that her dying daughter and ending marriage is enough to deal with, Andy runs away and breaks his arm. Page knows that her life will never be the same again, but she's just not prepared for everything that happens.

I have not always been a big reader, most books were so boring to me that I wished that I never had to read them (or force myself to read them). Accident by Danielle Steel was very different. It actually made me want to read, and I couldn't put this book down! It was amazing, I actually felt like I was in the story and I cried in many parts of it, sometimes my crying was out of happiness. I think that the accident in the story was a great way to bring out the truth of everybody's situation. It may have brought out the worst in them, but in the end it brought out the best.

This book was written very well. I would recommand anyone to read this book, ecspecially if you like fate stories. In the story these two girls; Alyson and Chole sneak out of the house to go and meet these two guys; Phillip and Jamie. In the event of this they end up being in a bad accident; Phillip dies but the others are only hurt. During this accident Alyson's parents end up getting a divorce; Chole's parents were already divorced before the accident. As fate would have it Alyson's mom;Page, and Chole's father; Trygve end up getting married. I loved the ending and I think you will too. If you like tragics, along with fate love stories then this book is definetly for you.

Tragically written, yet a decent story nevertheless,
By A Customer
This review is from: Accident (Hardcover)
As a man, Danielle Steel may appear to be somewhat of a mystery to other male readers; however, for me, she offers a nice diversion from other novels which are more literary and intricate. Ms. Steel usually offers a nice easy story told simply and is readable in a relatively short period of time. And while I have only read a handful of Ms. Steel's works, i.e. "Zoya," "Jewels," "The Ranch," and "The Ghost" they have all had interesting characters and plot developments. "Accident" falls short on both counts offering, at best, a mindless read. 'Accident" tells the story of Allyson, a teen-age girl who tragically ends up in a car accident while on a date with a older high school boy, her best friend Chole and her date. Both Allyson and Chole lie to their parents about going on this date as to not be met with disapproval so the shock of the deception as well as the accident is enormous. Allyson ends up in a coma resulting from the accident and Ms. Steel depicts not only on how the accident changes the life of Allyson but changes the life of her mother, Page and her marriage as well. There are no surprises here and the end is predictable almost from the beginning. More troubling then the precdictability of the story, though, is the writing. Although one does not read Danielle Steel for her prose one should not have to be subjected to the innumerable sentences beginning with the word, "but." This is plain sloppiness and eventhough Ms. Steel writes for the masses, better judgement should be used. I like Danielle Steel and I will continue to read her as she offers a different slice of the pie from other authors out there; and, I enjoy every now and again just sitting back and reading a good story. Unfortunately, "Accident" only offers an uneventful story line with characters we really do not care about using, on top of that, poor writing.
