5.0 out of 5 stars So true that it gives you chills!, July 10, 2009

This review is from: Accidental Felons (Perfect Paperback)
This book is amazing!!! I couldn't put it down, but the human body needs sleep. Dan was most gracious to mention me in his book as "Soldier". When things like this happen to you in life you think.. "I will just do it and be done"! But Dan was able to capture the REAL essence of it, and make you realize it's more powerful and corrupt then what you see with the naked eye. I have been to war, and seen many scary things! But, nothing has scared me more than this book. It makes you realize how important life, love, family, and friend's are in one's life because it can be taken away in a heart beat!

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing true story, June 22, 2009
This review is from: Accidental Felons (Perfect Paperback)
Daniel Horne has written a book that absolutely everyone in the country should read. He tells about his experiences in the Maricopa County, Arizona jail system. Sheriff Joe's love of the media could propel this book to great heights. However, it's the County Attorney (Andrew Thomas) that everyone living in Marizopa County (or even thinking of visiting) should know about. His manipulation of the laws of the state are truly amazing and horrifying at the same time. Until the political climate of Arizona takes a dramatic change for the better, anyone considering relocating to Arizona needs to do their homework.
As host of AuthorsWebTV.com, I've had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Daniel. How this mild-mannered gentleman survived the intolerable conditions and abuse, as offered in this book, is truly amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars An important, eye opening book., August 12, 2010

This review is from: Accidental Felons (Perfect Paperback)
I highly recommend this book. It is a first hand account of mindless American style "justice" and the inhumanity, cruelty and stupidity of the prison industrial complex that passes for a justice system in the US.

Horne's book gives the reader an inmate's-eye look at an abusive, incompetence and power-lust driven justice system; it's a portrait of a US county gone completely off the rails under the leadership of one Andrew Thomas and his henchman Joe Arpaio.

The aim of The Maricopa Co. Atty's Office seems to be ruining citizens' lives rather than contributing to a better society.
Be not fooled, however, that Arizona is the only place in the US which breeds these tendencies. The prison state is spreading to all parts of the US, driven by similar politics, greed and public misinformation.

Read this book and open your eyes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tent City Expose, September 23, 2009

This review is from: Accidental Felons (Perfect Paperback)
This autobiography/memoir makes for compelling reading, especially for anyone interested in a critique of mandatory sentencing and its unholy ties with the for-profit prison movement. Based on firsthand experience, the book not only describes in gritty detail what goes on inside Maricopa County's Sherrif Joe Arpaio's infamous "Tent City" Jail but examines the economic and political forces driving it. More importantly, if you don't know who County Prosecutor Andrew Thomas is, you soon will upon reading. The author, Dan Horne, makes a convincing argument that this official is one of the most dangerous men in Arizona, if not America. I'm using the book in my college composition class as a springboard for further research into the larger issue of incarceration in the United States. The book, largely the product of one man's crusade, could stand for some further revision and editing, but it is much higher in quality than your typical vanity press fare and well represents what strongly held convictions can produce.

5.0 out of 5 stars A riveting and frightening read of how the good guys might just be worse than the bad guys, September 7, 2009
This review is from: Accidental Felons (Perfect Paperback)
Is there such a thing of being too obsessed with the law? "Accidental Felons: And Then They Came For Us..." is a criticism of two of the most controversial people in law today, Arizona's Joe Arpaio and Andrew Thomas. Their methods are viewed as cruel and extreme, and the two fail to see anything wrong with their approach to justice. Speaking out, Daniel Horne presents many examples of Arpaio and Thomas's acts and urges people to beware those who take the law too far. "Accidental Felons" is a riveting and frightening read of how the good guys might just be worse than the bad guys.

This review is from: Accidental Felons (Perfect Paperback)
Excellent book.
Tells the truth about what's going on in Maricopa County Arizona with a un-justice system gone wild.
Where justice is not about the truth, only about warehousing people and calling them criminals for minor offenses.
Come to Arizona on vacation, leave on probation, be returned for a violation and prison.

4.0 out of 5 stars Captivating Read, June 13, 2009

This review is from: Accidental Felons (Perfect Paperback)
Frightening story of the author's experience with the justice system and his inabilty to receive a fair trial. He goes on to detail the horrors of Sheriff Joe's Tent City.

The book makes one re-elvauate their own stereotypes of people who end up in jail and the people who put them there.
