Hundreds of years ago, when mariners sailed these same waters or Polynesia, a chance encounter with an uncharted island was sometimes referred to as an Accidental Voyage. Though we had a general idea where we were going, we had no idea what we would see and experience during this journey ...this Accidental Voyage... So begins each episode of Accidental Voyage, the six-part sailing adventure series that documents the dynamic sea-faring expedition of three sailors in their small sailboat as they journey through the Polynesian Islands of the South Pacific Ocean. This action-packed series provides a unique opportunity for the viewer to experience first-hand the discovery of new lands and encounters with different worlds. Expedition travel and high seas adventure, sailing know-how and scientific analysis, cultural insights and spectacular imagery, all propel this story of the small sailboat and crew stretching the limits of the horizon...on this Accidental Voyage. Accidental Voyage is packaged in a beautiful six DVD Box set. Each DVD is professionally replicated or pressed through a glass mastering process to ensure maximum quality.
The three of us in the Accidental Voyage series had sailed, dived, and explored many areas together over the years. But at the end of the day, we were always drawn to what lay beyond the distant horizon. None of us had ever been there, never crossed an entire ocean, never made a months-long passage. But finally, after a bit of creative juggling, we pooled our resources together and found a small sailboat to carry us on our maiden voyage. What follows is documented in the Accidental Voyage series. We ve tried to bring a first-hand account of our adventure to the viewer. Not by having a talking head lecture about it or showing endless shots of the horizon bobbing up and down; but instead, by having the viewer see and experience this life through us as filmmakers. We always try to find the most compelling and interesting storylines in crafting the series to be informative, provocative, and entertaining. In the production of Accidental Voyage, we did our best to draw on our years of professional filmmaking experience in telling a great seafaring tale. We combine unusual and dynamic camera perspectives and techniques in capturing these stories. And we always find any excuse to jump into the water for extensive underwater footage whether unclogging a thru hull in the middle of the ocean or diving for pearls on a remote atoll. The original music is carefully composed and inspired by the stories and images, and we feel helps convey some of the exhilarating, terrifying, and beautiful moments in our journey. But most of all, Accidental Voyage provides an opportunity for us to share our adventures in sailing to distant shores and exploring different worlds. --John Stuhldreher, Director
