Could Not Put It Down!,
By Fairy Glitter Girl (Maryland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Accidental Werewolf (The Accidental Series, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
You know when you start to read a book and you get so into it that you forget about eating and sleeping and even your children? This is one of those books. I literally could not put this book down and finished it in 2 days. (It would have been hours, not days but the children did eventually convince me that they needed food.) I cannot wait to read Nina's story. Come on July 2008!!

Marty Andrews is on her way to being a top seller for Bobbie-Sue Cosmetics. She's already eyeballing that sky blue convertible as she is determined to show every woman just how great she can look if she just uses the right make up from her color wheel. Her plan looks like it will be successful... until she meets Keegan Flaherty. Or rather, until Keegan bites Marty! Keegan is, after all, a werewolf. Now Marty's colors are all wrong as she is turning brunette while she has to shave her legs at least twice daily. Unfortunately, being bitten by a werewolf is the least of Marty's problems as now someone wants her dead. Will Keegan and Marty find out who the culprit is or will Marty be doomed?
THE ACCIDENTAL WEREWOLF is one of the funniest books I've read in awhile! Dakota Cassidy injects humor throughout the story, while still maintaining a high level of suspense. Who is behind the attacks on Marty and why? And almost as importantly, how on earth will Marty cope with all the changes in her body? Marty's snarky personality hits just the right tone. While her obsession with cosmetics and appearances would lend you to think Marty is shallow, she is much deeper than that. Marty is a woman determined to be successful and she's taken her love of looking great and turned it into a career. Becoming a werewolf is not on her agenda at all and the results that ensue are hilarious! THE ACCIDENTAL WEREWOLF also has an underlying message about families. Marty has been alone most of her adult life and has a strong work ethic she inherited from her mother. On the flipside, Keegan is part of a pack and used to having a large family around him. The resulting clash between these two very different upbringings is thought provoking. Dakota Cassidy takes the werewolf mythology and spins it on its head! Her unique take on werewolves is nothing short of hysterical as THE ACCIDENTAL WEREWOLF is guaranteed a spot on my keeper shelves. Highly recommended! COURTESY OF CK2S KWIPS AND KRITIQUES

The Accidental Werewolf by Dakota Cassidy is cute, funny and will leave you wanting more.
Not only are the main characters fun and appealing but the secondary characters will have to screaming for them to get their own books too. I absolutely LOVED this book and highly recommend it to anyone that wants a good laugh.

Despite feeling that Nina needed to be enrolled in a lifelong anger management class and Marty's runaway talking at times got on my nerves, and the fact that I thought the f-word was given too much use by the characters - I did enjoy this book and found myself smiling and laughing and wanting to get to the end to see how things ended up. If this was the first in a series, I will definitely pick up the next book when it comes out. Hopefully some of the characters will have grown up and calmed down by that time.

One of the best and funniest werewolf stories of the year!,

Marty is a devoted saleswoman of Bobbie-Sue cosmetics whose life changes suddenly when she's accidentally turned into a werewolf. It turns her life and even her color wheel <g> upside down.
Keegan is the sexy werewolf who's now not only responsible but also falling for Marty... but someone is trying to kill her and Keegan has to keep her safe. Dakota Cassidy has written a fabulous, hysterically funny and wonderfully touching love story. I loved it and highly recommend this one.

This review is from: The Accidental Werewolf (Accidental Friends, Book 1) (Paperback)
A friend recommended this book highly, so I picked it up. The first few pages were full of our main character talking color coordination, and hugely upset because for some reason she couldn't understand, her complexion changed and she can no longer wear lavender.
Marty is a door to door make-up saleswoman, working the way to the top of her pyramid, when her poodle attacks a prowling werewolf who was distracted by Marty's scent. In her attempt to pry her viscious little dog off the large "dog's" lip, he accidentally bites her, a scratch on her hand really, and she starts changing. I probably could have rolled with the unlikeliness of poodle-induced werewolfism, but the book's attempts at humor fall flat. It isn't particularly funny when you know it's trying very hard to be, maybe too hard. Though once Marty stops obsessing about her color wheel, you get to see more of her heart and she becomes more endearing. The supporting characters are underdeveloped, and even Marty's werewolf alpha hunk seems less alpha, and more brooding older brother. In the end I liked it more than I thought I would when I began, but I'm still don't think I'll pick up the second book in the series.

If you ever wondered how you would take it if someone told you werewolves were real? Oh and by the way, you're one now too... Well, you'd probably react just like Marty Andrews and deny, deny, deny. I loved this book because it seemed like how I would react if someone told me I was a werewolf! Snappy dialog, hot sex, and laugh out loud funny, this book is definately a keeper. Dakota Cassidy is a definate must have if you like humor with you paranormal romance.

I just ordered this book and it wasn't what I expected. It was a little too cutsie for my taste. The first 50 pages were so repetitive I almost didn't want to keep going. I mean ok so a guy tells you your a werewolf and its unbelievable. We get it. There was literally 45 pages of them sitting in her living room with her drifting in and out of conversation not believing a word he says and thinking cliche thoughts about him and life in general.
But once I got farther in the book it was a little bit better. There were some funny parts but it just seemed a little forced. I liked the storyline but the main character just got on my nerves. I guess this would be a good book for a teenager who is really into makeup or maybe for a 15 hour flight to australia but personally I like characters with a bit more depth.

So so at best,
This review is from: The Accidental Werewolf (The Accidental Series, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
I bought all 3 books, which is the only reason I made it past this first one. I am glad I did, as I absolutely loved the final book, so they are worth sticking with.
Overall, it would have been a good book, if it were not for the main character being a self centered whiny dimwit for 3/4 of the book. It wasn't until the end that she actually got interesting and got over all that weakness that spilled over all her internal dialog. What do you call a person who is told in the first few pages that she is a werewolf and she refuses to accept that fact for more than 150 pages? Even after said character, who is a VEGAN, devours a raw steak! I kept thinking... how could anyone write a main character to be so dumb. She whined and cried and was spoiled rotten. I could never see an alpha werewolf just having to have this woman. But, the character does finally come out better in the end. I had serious doubts about reading all 3, as this weak unbelievable character was tough to swallow. The second was a little better, but not by a lot. Had the same problem... main character whiny and weak during internal dialog with crazy notions in her head. BUT, all that said, I absolutely loved the last one and to appreciate it, you really have to get through these first 2. |
