More About the Author

I grew up in Oklahoma. I never really fit in. I was a dancer from age 3. My family is, to say the least, interesting. So I have a strong background of trying to figure out who I am and where I can fit in. I received my BS in Exercise Science because I wanted to help people become healthy and happy. There were far too many personal examples of the opposite in my childhood, my mother being the greatest teacher. She has helped me tremendously in learning why people make the choices they make that lead to dis-ease, obesity, and even mental illness. She continues to teach me and make me a better teacher and person.

Peace in the City, my business, began 5 years ago as a way to bring affordable yoga and personal training to individuals and businesses. What happened was that transformations were occurring in the participants, but often they did not have the tools to translate change into all areas of their lives. In the past year, PITC has been going through a reinvention to combine almost two decades of fitness leadership experience, almost a decade of yoga teaching, lessons learned through my Master's of Arts in Applied Community Change and Conservation, and 4 decades of life experiences. What you get is someone with a great sense of humor, who "gets it" and how incredibly difficult, yet often beautiful, this journey can be. It is an adventure. We are all here to learn and grow, sometimes, we need a little help getting closer to being the authentic, abundant, wildly fabulous souls we came here as.

Specialties:
Seeing the beauty in everything-even that with foul odors, creating large quantities of pain all in the name of health fitness, and healing; personal development; helping people be real and love; trauma healing; yoga for real peeps; wellness for people who love food and are a little lazy but love living; personal training (sadism); photography; writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful Author January 9, 2011
By Firefly
Format:Kindle Edition
I enjoyed The Accidental Yoga Teacher so much I have shared and recommended it to my daughters and circle of friends (Sisters of Disorder). This is a book for us all, the casual reader or the disciplined book worm. Ms. Reese sheds light on our common human experiences in life: love, dreams, wishes, friendship, parents, work, adversity, and leads the reader down a path of comfort in the uncomfortable. Her insightful and thought provoking vignettes make this a book to read cover to cover in one day and/or a slow perusal. There is no one way to read it. Looking forward to what she has to share in her next writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Musings From the Mat January 6, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
As a long time student of Wendy Reese, I've always suspected that many people attend her fitness classes as much for her insights about life as for the workout benefits. Many (myself included) have encouraged her to publish the tidbits of wisdom she sprinkles throughout her yoga poses. The result is Wendy's long awaited first book, The Accidental Yoga Teacher.

Part introspective memoir, part self improvement guide, Wendy takes readers on an inspirational, thought provoking ride drawing on her multitude of experiences to reflect upon life's important questions. The book takes the form of short, insightful passages inspired by experiences as divergent as glimpsing Mt. Everest to her interaction with the counterperson at Taco Bell. These mini-essays are followed by prompts for readers to examine how these topics might be impacting their own lives.

Like having a personal life coach, Wendy's book can be luxuriously digested with a daily passage, allowing time and space to ruminate over each theme. I enjoyed the paperback as a captivating take on the human condition; several compositions were especially personally relevant ("Remember Me" and "Spring Cleaning"). Her honest, personal writing style makes the book an easy, highly recommended read.

Rumors indicate that this charismatic instructor is hard at work not on one--but a pair of follow-up books. After enjoying The Accidental Yoga Teacher, if there is a way to pre-order the publications, please sign me up!
