The bike world needs more things like this!,

High gas prices mean more bikes on the road which means more car accidents with bikers.
PROS: Loud horn with several horn choices, easy-to-operate controls, night switch to keep the tail light lit, sound and light turn signal reminders up front, great price. CONS: main wire needs twice as long to install on the end of a rack plus follow a woman's comfort bike frame, only one mounting option, hole for brake sensor could accomodate the end-of-wire dealy I had to cut off install, unit is cheap feeling and likely not weatherproof. Overall, I'm satisfied with this purchase. If I could build one, it would be a 9v+ system featuring better (albeit more expensive) weatherproof components and a very loud horn, with one of the settings being the UK police siren (DEEDLE-DEEDLE-DEEDLE). Turn signals on the front with a bright headlamp would also be great.

not quite what you pay for,

This came to me broken and missing parts. I didn't want to deal with the return hassle and was able to find the needed parts and with some reworking, got all the bells and whistles to work. It's a silly little accessory but it's fun. If you aren't handy, you are going to have to take you chances as quality is pretty low.

Promptly delivered. Not especially sturdy, but I was buying cheaply. Works as described. Would gladly pay more for similar item in metal. Will shop with this company again.

I liked it, but it was poorly packed and came missing a screw. Luckily a local hardware store. The other negative is the sensor for the break which the brake cable has to be threaded through. If you have a blob on the end of your brake cable, it has to be cut off.

I got my turn signal just a few days after ordering it! The instructions for installing the break light were a little difficult to understand, however. A must have for anyone with a motorized bicycle. ;)

Hindsight is always 20/20. I thought it was a great idea when I bought it. But after a few weeks I stopped using it. I wonder since no one really looks for a cyclist with an lighted signal if this makes much sense. The signals are so close together that I don't know if somone driving would be able to tell whether I'm turning left or right. Also I have to turn on the signals while I'm trying to steer my bike.
It would be nice if there was something that would light up your arm and flashed when you hand signaled. I instead use illuminite arm and hand warmers at night which reflect off of car headlights(not sold on Amazon anymore) to hand signal. Other lighting equipment I use to stay safe at night includes: Planet Bike Beamer 1 and Blinky 3 LED Bicycle Light Set and the Down Low Glow for side visibility Down Low Glow Lighting Kit - Two Tubes-Envy(green)

Tail light 1 LED, break light all 3 LEDs, Turn lights 2 LEDs L&R. Tail light is not very bright.(but its better than nothing) The control box is awkward to use turn signals. (have to let go with one hand to use). I use mine for tail & brake light only. Does not need to have a horn, it's a wast of battery power! (+ you have to let go again to use). Other than that the better you can be seen at night the safer you will be!!!

Eh..underwhelming.,

2.5 stars wasn't an option. Cable is far too short. Turn signals aren't far enough apart from each other to make intent completely obvious. Brake "sensor" only works on certain types of brakes, and cable end has to be chopped off, causing fraying.

As pointed out, not likely too hold up to wet weather. If you are crafty you can seal it better, doubtful you'll be able to make it totally water proof, but well enough. Not bright enough to really see the turn signals or brake light very well in the day time, but it works great at night. For $20 you can't expect much better, shipping was quick. If I need another I know where to buy from.

Motorized bicycle application report,

I have been buying accessories for my bicycle with a motor on it.
There is vibration on the unit so please be aware that what I write relates to my motorbike application. The light unit is holding up but the horn went out after a week. The "beeping" of the turn signals on went out five days later. My main need is for brake light and turn signal so I still have the base functioning. My main issue, with a motorbike, is to signal and not have to focus on the turn signal switch when I'm done turning or changing lanes. There is a physical click to the turn left or turn right positions but back to center has no physical click so I must play with it and focus on it which is even harder with gloves on. I made a rear cargo rack mount from a part in the parts box so I managed to mount the display unit on the rear end of the rear book rack but with only a seat post mounting option for this unit by default one has to be handy with tools and materials to mount the light in other places. So I do have base use and as long as that works I have what I wanted. The loss of the horn is not as bad as the loss of the audio beeping for the turn indicators. I recommend this unit but warn about use on a vibrating handle bar on a motorbike. I would have spent more for a unit that included front blinkers as well as rear. After all people at intersections see yellow flashing at night easier than a hand signal. Fingers crossed the unit keeps blinking. |
