4.0 out of 5 stars A JAZZ INSTRUMENT? AT A SQUEEZE, October 3, 2010
This review is from: Accordeon Jazz 1911-1944 (Audio CD)
On the face of it, the accordeon is an unlikely jazz instrument, given that most jazz musicians look to produce their own distinctive sound, and that is not much of option. The problem is apparent from the earliest track, a ragtime accordion solo dating from 1911. The recording is remarkably clear, in fact all of the remastering is exemplary, but the instrument blurs the staccato sound which is conveyed far better by the piano or guitar. Having said that, there were successful attempts to blend the instrument into a larger jazz ensemblle, and this compilation contains some excellent examples.
