According to the manual it should be possible to charge via USB. Whilst I manage this via the computer I seem unable to charge via a wall mounted USB.

Your wall mounted charger may only be 5W. Look for something that can charge an iPad (10W+). Amazon has a ton of options to choose from.

When the camera is connected to a computer, it is recognized on both sides as an external storage device.
When the camera is hooked to a (3rd party?) USB charger it is probably doing auto-shut down, etc and no longer recieving a charge-that would be my guess. I think it is possible to turn off the auto shut down/power save feature, it's worth a try
