More About the Author

Wayne E. Torbert is a history buff with a strong interest in many periods of history. His over 19 years of experience as a Civil War reenactor led to his first novel, "The Young Cadet, An account of Tallahassee's Battle of Natural Bridge". And his interest in ancient Greek and Roman history brought about his novelette, "Twelve For Thebes". Another period he finds interesting is 17th and 18th Century America. He wrote the children's book, "Alvarez, A Spanish Colonial Family", after volunteering as a living historian at Mission San Luis. His newest novel, "Redemptio, A Novel of Imperial Rome", is a story about a runaway slave during the reign of Emperor Nero and how through the missionary efforts of St. Paul, this slave found redemption. Recently retired from the State of Florida, the author lives in Tallahassee, Florida, with his wife, Helga, and three adorable pets.

Format: Paperback
While anyone would enjoy this book, The Young Cadet, is a excellent choice for young readers. Wayne Torbert skillfully recounts the salient points of the Battle of Natural Bridge, near Tallahassee, Florida in March 1865, while capturing the emotions and different points of view through fictitious characters. Mr. Torbert's story brings to light, the experience of battle through the eyes of Eugene Murray, the young cadet from the West Florida Seminary, and his enemy, Joshua Jackson, a private in the 2nd Regiment, United States Colored Troops. The characters are believable, because of Mr. Torbert's extensive research of the time and attitudes of people during the Civil War. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the American Civil War. I am the proud owner of autographed copy #50! Ed Buist
