Book Description

Accounting is about decision making using financial information. The focus of this text is on developing within students the ability to critically analyze accounting information and make informed business decisions. Students are exposed to a lot of real-world examples where they can see the effect that accounting information has on the decisions made by real companies. Also chapters are split into basic and expanded material so that the professor can easily cover the basics of a topic or, if he or she prefers, delve deeper into a selected topic. Finally, analysis is incorporated throughout the text so that students can learn to use accounting information as they learn how that information is prepared.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"I like the chapters included and how they are organized for a typical 15-week course. The organization suits how I teach my course. Students find the text easy to read. Students like the additional features such as Data Mining and Business Context."

"The sidebars were interesting and applicable. The end of chapter questions, exercises, and problems provide good coverage of the material and sufficient variation. I also liked the sequencing of the chapters." --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well presented, but you need the study guide., October 24, 1999
This book, actually two sold as one, has a ton of exercises, with NO useful answers--as though a ploy to force you to buy the study guide. On retrospect: buy the study guide if you hope to actually DO any exercises as part of your learning. (Note to autors: break this into the TWO books you know it is, and add the answers to the odd-numbered questions, eh?)

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely a keeper! Two thumbs up!, June 20, 2010
I just started taking MBA classes, and Financial Accounting is one of my foundation classes. Our professor insisted in using the outdated version, although the latest edition would be not so much off, from what I heard.

I am half way through the book at this time, and so far I can say that it is a very well written, easy to read and understandable textbook. The reader is systematically introduced to the essentials of Financial Accounting. Being an engineer, the whole area used to be somewhat a book with seven seals for me, which seemlessly opens up now chapter by chapter.

The manifold examples and question sections at the end of each chapter help a lot to strengthen the just acquired knowledge. With a grain of salt, though, the book itself does not provide any solutions to the questions and examples.
I presume the book is not intended for self studies, but it could very well be, if the solutions would be available. Thank goodness, those were provided to us by our professor, so I assume there should be a teacher's version or a separate solutions book out there.

As soon as I finish the class I might come back to add more.
