5.0 out of 5 stars Great practice exercises!
I never took an accounting course, but I wanted to learn more for my job. So, when I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down! Everything is explained very well, and the exercises in the chapters and at the back of the book, really helped me reinforce what I had read. Definitely worth the money.

Anyone taking college accounting, or those of you who aren't, will appreciate this book! It is extremely helpful. After taking a quarter at my college and totally being in a "fog", I totally understand accounting, thanks to this easy to understand book!

This review is from: Accounting the Easy Way (Barron's Easy Way) (Paperback)
I am not an accountant, I'm an engineer. I knew almost nothing about about accounting, but I wanted to learn double entry bookeeping. So before I even read this book, I studied Barron's "Bookeeping the Easy Way".

Having gained an understanding of bookeeping, I then proceed to this book. And what I learned is that accounting has many, many categories of events to be accounted, lots and lots of counter-intuitive conventions, jargon galore, and an unending supply of seemingly arbitrary rules.

What I did *not* learn from this book is that accounting is very logical, an entire system built on two postulates (to borrow some mathematical vocabulary). Happily, I share a 45 minute commute with an accountant friend, and he enlightened me. But without the individual tutoring, I doubt I would have made much progress with this book despite many hours of hard work.

I could forgive this book for obscuring the beauty of accounting, since after all most readers are interesting in acquiring skills, not contemplating beauty. Unfortunately, this is a car wreck of a a "how to" book. The text is wordy, amiguous, and convoluted. None of the illustrations or tables are numbered. I ended up re-reading almost every passage several times.

Whoever invented accounting was a genius, and accounting is probably one of the most important inventions of all times. This book does not do the subject justice.

I am a professional accountant of almost twenty years and this book is great for beginners as well as a brush up course . I found it easy for beginners to understand and a great brush up course for professionals like myself. I highly recommend this book.

This is a super book for people who don't have any accounting back ground but want to learn basic bookkeeping & accounting skill in a brief period of time. It covers all aspects of basic accounting technique needed in entry-level bookkeeping position or other related fields.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for learning accounting, June 10, 2009
By
This is one of the best books for learning accounting that I have ever seen. It presents all the basic concepts in a sequential, easy-to-follow way. Exercises are introduced at the end of each logical section within the chapter. Additional supplementary problems are presented in the back of the book and further reinforce the understanding of the material presented.

Accounting isn't mathematics, but the ability to understand and then apply concepts. This book clearly presents the concepts and also provides an extensive glossary to further reinforce a reader's knowledge of the subject matter.

Accounting being a sequential subject requires a thorough understanding of the elementary class in order for students to be succewssful in advanced classes. This book indeed serves tis purpose admirably.

I didn't have a business background and was starting to take accounting classes for business school (MBA) and CFA Level 1. This is a good intro or refresher for those new to accounting. It's not very complex but if you want an overview or intro this is a good start.

3.0 out of 5 stars By it only if necessary, October 28, 2001
After going through this book, I realize I would have been better off not buying it. Only purchase this book if you are really having difficulty understanding the subject of accounting.
More often than not, I have found my college accounting textbook easy enough. Also, this book has it's share of errors, which make it a bit difficult to understand. And last but not least, the supplementary excersises section has an answer key that I find to be insufficient.
