The Deluxe Librarian Action Figure is a fun collector's item. It is a thing of beauty. It is a gag gift. It is not realistic. It is oh-so-true-to-life.

Am I contradicting myself? Then I contradict myself. I am a PK3-8 librarian. Let's see how we compare. Just how realistic is she?

*I do not wear dresses. I wallow on the floor far too often. If I must climb a ladder, I don't have to worry that little people below, well you know. I do own two burgundy dresses that just hang out in my closet. I do wear russet pants and a chocolate sweater. Close enough. Or chocolate pants and a russet top.

*I have a computer and I am on it everyday! Hmmmm. My students know words like processing books, automating, Dewey Decimal, the 500's, Caldecotts.

*No book cart. No, wait, oops, I use it everyday to haul books back and forth, forth and back for automation purposes.

*Stacks of books--OK, ALL OVER THE PLACE. EVERY WHERE.

*The product description says there are also "loose books." What does that mean--loose books? Were they corralled and some got out and are now loose? Or do they have low morals? Let's look around my library. Loose? Loose? A couple over there. One under the table. Two laying on the shelf, some in a chair. OK, loose we have.

*Reference desk. Nope. Too covered with stuff. "Ms Judy, where can I find books on owls?" "Ms Judy, I need a book on a person for my book report. Who do you think I should do it on?" "Ms Judy, could I check out two books today? I don't have any overdue." Reference desk, OK, that would be me, a walking-around, helping me.

*Shushing. I can shush all I want, but they will talk any way. Do I really care? They are still excited about books until middle school. I want them to look and laugh, point out and share, to sit on the floor in groups and read things to each other, to lay on floor pillows and read silently. How can you have those things if you have a shushing librarian?

To sum up, as you can see, the Deluxe Librarian Action Figure is nothing like me nor I anything like her. But I would love to have one! You know, a collector's item. Gag gift. Whatever.

...or at least ones in Ohio. Purchased this item as a gift for a friend who has enjoyed it tremendously. The one comment I received from them regarding the Deluxe Librarian Action Figure is that her "Shhh-ing" action can be somewhat intermittent. My friend did suggest that it "might just be the batteries". A worthwhile gift for any librarian in your life.

If you've "Got Books" - you've gotta get the Deluxe Nancy Pearl Action Figure. No library should be without it on visible display. I'm a practicing elementary school librarian and a big Nancy Pearl fan. Ordered this as a Christmas present for my faithful assistant. She loves it - the kids love it. It brings up lots of discussion and is just plain fun to have around. The deluxe figure with all the extra goodies is a big improvement over the original "plain Jane" version. Now you can practice all of your vital librarian skills with actual mini books to shelve on your working mini book cart. If Melvil Dewey were still around I'm sure he would proudly display one on his desk. It does our profession proud.

I found this item when looking for a gift for a favorite librarian. With all the cuts to education, these fine scientists are seemingly first on the chopping block for budget cuts. This action figure will remind you and/or your favorite librarian why they are so beloved. Really, who showed you what to read when you were searching for a certain something, as yet unknown?

Bought this as a "prize" for a local librarian competition and it was perfect! The whole group LOVED it and wanted to know where to purchase one.

As a former librarian and a retiree who is a couch potato, this gave a lot of laughs to friends who know me. Lots of fun.

I purchased this item as a gag gift for a supervisor. It was a hit. She thinks it is the greatest gift ever. For her the best part and the reason we got it, is the cart with the removable books. She is trying to figure out a way to add a little plaque with her name on it to mimic the cart that she uses to move things between her two offices.

I'm a new school librarian and a fan of Nancy Perl's. My dad purchased this for me for Christmas. I haven't shown it to my students yet, but my fellow staff members and family got a kick out of it. I was disappointed that my package arrived crushed in the corner, which meant the library background and desk were crushed. Also, the "push-button shusshing action" doesn't really work. But still, a fun gift for a librarian.

I have seen Nancy Pearl speak and really enjoy her insight on books. I have both "action" figures but the deluxe model has better accessories by far. The cart and loads of books are great, along with the Library backdrop. The "action" still needs work, but the original version doesn't work either.

I bought this for a librarian friend and she was surprised and pleased with it.
