4.0 out of 5 stars Good but FWI the kit doesn't come with everything
I haven't had a chance to try this out yet. The meter instructions look easy, most reviews I have seen rave about the lancet device and a fellow employee uses this brand and recommendeds it highly. She likes the fact that it uses very little blood and gives a reading quite quickly.

I was sorely disappointed on receiving the package which does not include the 50 count test strip box or the 102 lancelets as given in the product description. It was totally misleading. Secondly, it is nowhere mentioned that you also need the control solution in order to start using the whole thing. I was planning to give it to my parents who are leaving the country...

I haven't had a chance to try this out yet. The meter instructions look easy, most reviews I have seen rave about the lancet device and a fellow employee uses this brand and recommendeds it highly. She likes the fact that it uses very little blood and gives a reading quite quickly.
If you do order this, be warned that it DOESN'T come with test strips or control solution and includes only 2 lancet drums ( ie 1 dozen lancets ) So pick up these 3 items along with your kit. I suppose it makes sense that they wouldn't want to include parishable items. The jar of strips won't fit inside the case, but it wouldn't be to hard to put a rubberband around the two. I liked that the kit came with a working battery, a nice warranty ( 2 years ) and a $15 off rebate as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars does what it is supposed to do, June 6, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is the first time I bought a glucose meter, so I dont have anything else to compare this against. I bought this also because the test strips were more affordable than some of the other units I saw at Wal greens. I bought this and Accu-Chek Roche Aviva 50 Count (Mail Order) from here amazon.com

The unit is easy to use, and the measurements are repeatable. There is a sort of "calibration" you need to perform every time you are opening up a "new pack" of strips. I thought that was a nuisance, but then I can understand why it is required (I think this is common for all meters)

Overall, I should say I am pleased with the purchase.

Secondly, it is nowhere mentioned that you also need the control solution in order to start using the whole thing. I was planning to give it to my parents who are leaving the country shortly. Now I don't have sufficient time to purchase the other items. Besides, I am not sure if I want to spend at least another $50 to make the kit useable. A total waste of money for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Because I have to use, May 8, 2010
This review is from: Accu-Chek Aviva Diabetes Monitoring Kit - Meter System (Health and Beauty)
I have not got a wide range of experience with these to judge them. It was cheaper and we went with it. Shortly before my back surgery after four months bed-ridden in terrific pain with the loss of walking, I developed high blood sugar. The net result of years unable to really walk and move with multiple back issues. Weight gain, craving carbs. It was a shock. Now I'm adjusted to using this and find it pretty easy altho the drug store charged me over a hundred for test strips much cheaper here.
Basically the kit came with what I needed to get going. You get a key from the test strips, prick your sore fingers, test, results displayed in seconds. So far it's working fine. I've controlled the issue and in nine weeks lost ten pounds and achieved a start towards feeling better. I'd buy this again.
My daughter tells me implants under the skin are coming to give a regular reading. The cool thing about a scientist daughter is that you are well considered as she thinks about her future. I can tell you she's who read and set this up for me...and it wasn't hard. A little set of tips:
1) don't test when you are rushing...try to calm, otherwise you drop something
2) wait the two hours after a meal
3) be sure you put the test key in
4) prick finger first, put in test strip
5) WAIT for the little ding, then lightly put the blood just above the strip
6) re-test if the number seems imppossible

WASH up after, it is blood.

I bought this meter as backup to my first Aviva. i use this one for travel and keep it in my insulin kit so I always have a BG meter with me. I was totally pleased with my first AccuChek Aviva, and am likewise pleased with this new one.
Highly recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hurts A LOT!, January 10, 2012

My insurance company made me change to this meter. Using the multclix lancet I was not able to get a large enough blood sample with 1 click. So I wasted a number a test strips. I had to lance myself 2 or 3 times to get a large enough sample for the meter. This was at setting 6. Even worse, the lancet would not withdraw after sticking me and would stay stuck in my skin. Yeah it hurt. I tried using the multclix for a few weeks and gave up. I threw it away. I went back to using my old lancing device. I have to use a higher setting than I did using the freestyle test strips, but I am able to get a sufficient sample for the meter. I do not recommend this product.

I am not diabetic, but had gestational diabetes so I only test my blood sugar occasionally. I decided to start testing more often to make sure that I was doing OK. I bought a grocery-brand meter and strips, and started testing several times a day. I was really bummed to find that my blood sugar had gone up by about 20 points since my pregnancy 2 years earlier. I bought a bunch of diabetes books and low carb diet books on Amazon and started trying to work with my diet to get my numbers back down. But it wasn't working. I heard on a forum that Dr. Bernstein recommends this brand meter, so I bought it. Well, once I started using this one, I felt like I had been cured! My fasting numbers are perfectly normal, and I CAN get normal post-prandial numbers with some carbs in my diet. I must have been using a faulty meter! I like the large size of the test strips that this meter uses, and the matching lancet is great, too. If you are making drug and food choices based on glucose meter readings, I highly recommend this one!

I switched to this product from The Ultra One Touch and my results jumped almost 15 points. I adjusted my medication to bring it down to within normal limits. After 1 week I ran the Ultra One Touch and results were to low. I adjusted my medicine and went back to the One Touch. I even ran the positive control and everything tested fine. I'm not sure the product is accurate.

The following I sent to Customer Service

A main reason I ordered this product was the description detail
Product Desription detail.

Accu-chek Aviva Diabetes Monitoring Meter Plus 50 Aviva Test Strips and Free Multiclix Lancet 102 Pack.. Meter 50 Strips and Lancets Aviva Meter Aviva Strips Multiclix Lancet All in one accu chek kit with supplies

NO TEST STRIPS OR LANCETS PROVIDED

The shipment did include 12 lancets only. Another buyer commented that this was the case with her shipment but I thought it was her shipment error.
Buying online I depend on honest and correct product descriptions. I feel I have been mislead in making my decision to buy this product. I have no problem with the monitor and I by chance ordered an extra 50 test strips.
Please correct this product's description.

If this was an order for flatware and came with a few less forks that's one thing but this is a medical device we are talking about.

Had to change meters when I changed insurance companies. Needed a second one to keep at my vacation home. This filled the bill and was cheaper than any other source. Just be aware, no sample test strips or sample lancets with this. But for the price, it's understandable.
