1.0 out of 5 stars Product simply does not work, June 26, 2007

I tried to calibrate this thing several times, followed the directions, etc. No matter what I tried, this unit was simply inaccurate. I ended up sticking with a non-digital caliper.

The non-digital calipers I had accurately calculated my % body fat (approx 14%) - while this one put me at 4% time and time again (not even possible). I would not waste your money on the technology - stick with the $8 non-digital type.

The Accu-Measure Fat Trac II Caliper is a decent tool for trying to measure your body fat percentage at home. I say 'decent' and 'trying to' because the act of using it on yourself is quite challenging if you've never had any instructions with this type of tool. I haven't so it's been a struggle. The instructions included give you a good idea of what you're supposed to do but they don't really explain how to feel the difference in your skin between fat and muscle, which is a key component of accuracy. Also, for a right-handed person like myself, the design of the tool means you have to use it upside down in order to prevent clicking the 'accept' button before your ready.

Nonetheless, because it lets you take multiple readings and provides an average over time - high reading, low reading, etc., you start to get the hang of it. I'm glad I have it as it has helped me understand my body makeup much better but the jury is still out as to whether it's really accurate or not. Overall, I'd give it a B-
