AccuSharp Shear Sharp Scissor Sharpener

I had several pairs of dull scissors and didn't know any place I could take them to have them sharpened so I ordered this sharpener. I ran the sharpener over the blades about a dozen times and sure enough the scissors were sharp again.

This sharpener works great, just like it's sister product (the knife sharpener) of the same manufacturer. After just a few seconds of sharpening I had my scissors as sharp as a knife! I can cut materials without even closing the scissors! Worth every penny.

I found this product much less easy to use and did not do as good a job of putting an edge on scissors and shears. The knife sharpener is great and i take one with me whenever i travel and am without my chef's choice 3 stage sharpener. The scissors sharpener however wasn't nearly as user friendly. It did improve the edge reasonably well after a while.

I am soooo disappointed! I'd have given it no stars, but that wasn't an option. These actually made my scissors worse. I sew--everyday, so have a good bit of experience in this area. I was looking for something that would stretch out the lifespan of my multitude of sewing scissors without resorting to the so expensive professional sharpening. I had the small sharpener sold at Joann's for a year of so. That one worked but fell apart eventually. I thought I'd try a new one. The AccuSharp 2 Shear Sharp is so flimsily made I feared it was going to fall apart of this first use. On my larger scissors, it seemed to make gouges. They still cut fabric, but there was certainly no improvement in cutting. When using the Joann's sharpener, I always was pleased with the improvement in cutting after each use.

The design of this sharpener does not allow sharpening of scissors that do not open a great deal. Consequently, many of the sewing scissors, designed for the least amount of hand movement cannot be sharpened with this.

I stupidly continued on with this product hoping that it was just a matter of figuring out how it would best work. (Directions are minimal to say the least.) Now I need to take five pairs of scissors to a professional shop. Hopefully they are not beyond repair. I'd return it, but I need the money I'd spend on shipping to pay to get the scissors fixed.

Save your money. Joann's sharpener is several dollars cheaper, and you will get at least a year out of it.

I purchased this assuming that it would automatically sharpen at the correct angle for scissors. It did not. The sharpening edge must be manually set by sight on the flat edge of scissors.

First pair of scissors I tried it on the flat edge of the scissors to sharpen was so wide that the throat of the sharpener was too narrow to fit in the tool.

The second pair of scissors that I tried had the reverse problem. The flat edge to be sharpened was so narrow that I could not see close enough to set the tool at the correct angle.

Tool proved completely valueless too me. I would give it a "0" if possible

We have both the knife and scissor sharpeners. I have had every type of sharpener from a manual Henkle's unit to the top of the line Chef's electric sharpener and these little babies out-do all of them. Simple operation and very inexpensive. If I was only able to sharpen all my scissors and knives only once before having to replace the AccuSharp it would be worth it but so far these have held up for months. Am looking forward to picking up the lawnmower and garden tool unit next.

It is a very handy product indeed, though it does not work exactly as they promised. To be perfectly honest I was expecting the same performance as the knife sharpener, which is fantastic. The scissor sharpener is a bit more odd to use and does not sharpen as spectacularly as the scissor one. In any case it is very inexpensive and handy.

The item works and I will keep it. The ad showed a completely different item than what I received.

Great tool to sharp both average and large size scissors. NO need to discard those old scissors. With a couple of strokes, the scissor to back to the way it was when I first bought it. I bought other affordable scissor sharpeners before this one, they are easier to use and sharpens all my average size scissors. But the prior sharpeners can't handle the larger scissors.

This sharpener works fairly well. Its easy to use and doesn't take up much space. It doesn't make blades razor sharp but does a decent job. I've yet to find a simple sharpener that makes a razor sharp edge, if I did I would buy it.
