I had a decent amount of success with the Accubrush. It doesn't take long to learn how to use it, but it IS important you spend time learning how it works and practicing with it a few times.

You've likely seen the videos the company has demonstrating the product:
1) It does around windows amazingly well leaving a perfect line - and fast!
2) It does around doors and trimming in the ceiling pretty well. The only draw back to doors and ceilings is that the entire brush must pass over an area to draw it's edge, which simply wont work in ceiling corners or where the door trim meets the floor. This leaves a gap of about 10 inches in each of those spots where you will have to trim in by hand; though I rather only trim in those spots and not the whole area.

Note: The brush has an adjustable setting that dictates how far out the line is to be made, and you will need to extend it to trim ceilings. So again, learn the product before using!

Pros:
1) Very straight line in a very short amount of time.
2) The trimmed area has the textured roller effect instead of the directional line effect achieved with a regular brush.
3) Ease to clean.

Cons:
1) Still leaves manual trimming in ceiling corners and at the bottom of doors.
2) Will not work against baseboard - wood is too thin.
3) The plastic latch that secures the handle to the device for handhold use, versus on a pole, is too flexible and often pops open when rolling by hand. - Very annoying, I'd like to see the company fix this to make it 100% solid.
4)There is a "floating metal square" on the plastic guard that helps control the paint. When trimming ceilings the metal square rubs against the ceiling and leaves a gray/black mark on the ceiling. I solved the problem by cutting a square of painters tape the same size as the metal and carefully covering it up. The metal must still move/float, so it's critical to have the tape cover only the metal. I would like to see the company coat the metal in plastic or something that wont rub off.

In conclusion:
I, like you, have wasted more money on other edgers and trimmers in my life time. This one performs the best of them all and gives you a hand drawn line with less effort. Buy it, but just realize it's JUST an edging tool to give you a leg up... it wont remove all of the effort out of painting a room!

I bought it and used the XT to paint 6 rooms with it. I have to say it works in very good conditions nicely as advertised. However, when you are doing a paint job, a lot of times you don't have the perfect condition to work with. I'm going to tell you what is *not* advertised.

You are going to have to blue-tape a wall's (4) inner corners. In addition, I found that the XT when used together with a 5-gallon bucket and a roller grid, the XT roller release almost always dips into the paint as well. As a result, you *have to have* paper towel wiped clean the release button after you dip into the bucket - every single time. Also, because of how *easily* the XT drips paint out of the roller when used against the ceiling, I *strongly* suggest you blue-tape all bottom South-side baseboards and what not *all the way*. That's right, all you're saving is from taping the West, North, and East middle sections on any given wall and trims.

Also, while this tool does the edges quite well, be prepared to keep the wall/ceiling side metal and wheels dry and clean. Especially the wheels. Otherwise when the wheels walk on the wall that you don't want paint on... you get the idea. Again, kitchen towel is your other friend.

After you edge your wall (say ceiling) with this tool, I suggest you use a/the roller to even out the edges that the tool just introduced before it dries out. Just like a professional painter(s) would, one guy does the edging while the other guy follows him and paint the rest while the paint is wet. Otherwise you will run into some problem with the paint not even out (or flat out).

The (3) pieces of connecting wooden stick is a joke. I used it for half a wall and the interconnecting plastic broke. Get a real extension at Home Depot.

You also have to learn how to angle your extension (about 15-20 degrees) to get maximum leverage to walk the tool smoothly.

So in summary, you have to keep the tool as clean as possible (yes talking about during a paint job), have plenty of kitchen towel to wipe off any excessive paint, and you still need painter's tape. Other than that, this tool does save you time for all the edging, at least in my case.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cool tool, February 3, 2010

Both the MX and XT are cool tools. We are professional painters and these tools significantly increased our productivity.

Pros:
-Cuts straight lines consistently and lightning fast. We were cutting 10-12 ft. per minute along ceilings.

Cons:
-This is a sloppy tool. Keep a wet rag handy to wipe up drips, there will be many.
-This is a plastic tool and the thumb lock broke within the first 4 hours of use. I'm not sure that this tool will last for regular professional use which is disappointing.
-The plastic used to make this tool is very difficult to clean.

In spite of these cons this is a great tool. I also have 2 suggestions for new users.
1. Saturate the roller.
2. Keep the pole at a 45 degree angle, use more pressure than you'd expect and move the roller by walking the wall rather then moving your arms back and forth. Arm movement will create an uneven and crooked cut.

I have been searching for a method to cut in paint for years. I bought the Accubrush with trepedation after so many other ideas had failed. I was pleasantly surprised at the results. After a few practice swipes I was painting like a pro.

I bought the kit with both edgers because I had a lot of paining to do. I started with the XT and was surprised at the ease of use. I did an entire room in half the time I usually take. Although saving time is of value what I really like was the consistant straight lines at the ceiling. Trimming around windows is not only fast but fun. This tool is so slick it makes me smile when I use it. I was very proud of the finished project.

On the next room I decided to try the MX because it was a small room. I wasn't as impressed. For some reason it didn't yeild the same results. I think the rear wheel loaded up with paint too soon and didn't allow the brush to do its magic. The finish was better than any previous method I've used which amounts to more work and more tape. I will stick with the XT in the future.

My family is so impressed, everyone wants to borrow it to paint their house. If you are on the fence about the Accubrush you should try it. I think the reviews are all positive and the results speak for themselves. I have never written a review on any product before but I was impressed enough to draft this for the Accubrush.

I saw the accubrush in a Google ad when I was searching for a power roller. I clicked on it and watched the video. It seemed too good to be true and felt a little on the pricey side at almost $100. I couldn't believe I found myself buying it.

I'm telling you, it worked EXACTLY as pictured. I couldn't believe how well it worked.

First bit of advice - get this kit over the others. I think it's important to have both the MX and the XT. The XT works great for ceilings on a pole but I didn't like it for door / window frames. The MX works great on door / window frames but I would have had to use the ladder to get the ceiling - so IMO, you need both if you want to do the least amount of work.

Second bit of advice - get plenty of paint on the roller. When they say saturate the roller, they mean it. The only time I had trouble was when I wasn't putting enough paint on the roller.

I have 12 foot ceilings with that popcorn texture. The popcorn texture made using it on a pole a bit harder but it was still much easier than getting up and down a ladder. I edged two large rooms in about an hour. I never even had a chance to get out the power roller that I bought because a buddy just followed me with a normal manual roller.

Their site and videos (and name) have a cheesy informercial feel but the product really works great.

5.0 out of 5 stars edger that really works, January 31, 2010

I was starting a whole house paint job and wanted to make the job go faster. I have used other products before and was not pleased with the results. The ACCUBRUSH proves to be worth it!!!! I was able to paint the long stretches of ceiling and baseboard very quickly. ( 100-130 ft or more in approx. 15 min) I also had to paint 2 cathedral ceilings. With my extension rod and from the floor, I could paint from 8ft to a few inches of the peak. I am happy with the product and its results.
I would have a helper ready to clean the brush and roller for reuse. Maintaining your product will give the best long term results. And also save a few dollars for replacement brushes and rollers

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Product. You just can't paint this fast by hand!, November 5, 2007
This review is from: Accubrush XT Deluxe Kit with FREE MX Edger (Misc.)
This is the second version of this product that I have purchased. The first product was the original version and that worked perfectly, however, when I saw the XL had a pole that meant no more ladders, I bought immediately.

The Accubrush is amazingly simple, yet fabulously accurate. It uses the technique of providing a guide to guide the tool but then has the genius stroke of using a very small brush to fill the gap between the guard and the wall.

If you follow the steps in the accompanying video you can't go wrong with this product. I find I need two coats in most cases but then I'm a bit of a perfectionist.

Tip: Make sure you wipe the guard following each application, that way, there is no way you can get slip marks on the adjoining walls.

The guy who invented this product is a genius. I have looked for years for a solution to this problem and this is the best, and believe me, I've tried most of the edging gadgets available.

Now, if you could only invent a good corner edger to fill those edges I still have to do by hand, I'd be recommending the Nobel Prize for gadgets.

Must have piece of kit - go buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Get this one instead of the MX. Pole Mount Capability is great!, February 11, 2010

My friend had told me about this product and I boughtit to try out, and was very pleased with how quickly it painted the edges and with the quality of the line that it left. At first I got the MX handheld model, but I ended up ordering the XT Deluxe kit later, as the pole-mounting capability of the XT version turned out to be more useful that I had thought at first. The quality of the line seems to be about the same with both models, but the XT is just a lot faster.

If you're trying to decide between the MX and the XT pole mountable version, I would say to go with the pole mounted version kit instead of the MX handheld version.

Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Our experience was positive, September 17, 2009
By
Robert Zhu (Austin TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Accubrush XT Deluxe Kit with FREE MX Edger (Misc.)
I ran across the Accubrush on the internet, ordered it, and have been very happy with it. At first, my wife kept saying that it would never work, and was she ever surprised! Now she can't stop raving about how well it works and how much time it saved us. We just finished painting a rec room in our basement - about 25 x 20 - and we were able to paint the whole thing in under an hour, including the little bit of brushing in the corners where the Accubrush doesn't get. I know that some other reviewers have disliked the fact that the Accubrush doesn't get all the way to the corner, but we did not find that to be a big problem. We were still able to fly through the painting job several times faster than if we had to cut in by hand.

We appreciated the fact that the rollers and brushes can all be washed out and used again, which seemed better than some other systems that require you to buy new pads every time you want to paint. We found that using ½ cup fabric softener to one gallon warm water worked great on cleaning out the rollers and brushes (a little trick I learned from Brian Santos, the Wall Wizard).

One trick I do with my rollers and brushes is to put them into a plastic bag overnight and put them into the freezer, to save time washing them out at the end of the day. With the Accubrush, my advice would be to put just the roller into a plastic bag at the end of the day, NOT the entire accubrush. I did that at first, and managed to get paint all over the shield, which I later had to clean off. The little brush is small and easy enough just to wash out, so I don't think that it's necessary to go through the trouble of putting it into a plastic bag.

The instructions say not to let the paint dry out in the bristles (which we accidentally did) and we were still able to get the paint out of the bristles and use the brush again. It seemed to work just fine after that incident, though you may want to have refills on hand.

It worked very well around the walls, doors, and windows. We tried it around the fire alarm and the light switch plates and outlets, but there was not enough of a lip for the Accubrush to ride properly. In the end, we ended up just removing the light switches and taping over the outlets.

We have found that the fastest way to paint a room with the Accubrush is to have one person cutting in the edge and another person coming along and rolling out the wet edge and rolling the rest of the wall. That way you get a perfect rolled texture all the way across the wall, with no ridges or drips. As my wife points out, it is a better texture than with a brush (you get all the brush marks) or with a pad (you get the banding along the wall with a pad).

The only real downside to buying the Accubrush is that now my wife wants to paint the entire house!!

We ran across this by accident on the web. It saved us hours on this last painting project! The paint went right on, like in the video, and was especially impressive along the ceiling. Like other reviewers have mentioned, you still have to manually cut in at the very corners, but that wasn't a big problem. The brush adjuster was nice for our textured ceilings. The pole wasn't tall enough for our ceilings, but the screw mount on the handle fit onto another painting pole we had in the garage. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
