Accurian APD-3955 7-Inch Widescreen Portable DVD Player

After buying my Coby portable 3.5 inch DVD player at Suncoast I saw this at Radio Shack for the same price ($99) it has a -7 INCH- wide screen! I didn't like how hard it was to read subtitles and MP3 song names on the Coby (I watch ALOT of downloaded fan-subbed anime, and I had a Rio Volt which scrolled song names like Winamp does) I ran back to my place, grabbed my Knight Rider dvd and an MP3 cd and ran back to the Radioshack and the guy let me test it out. Here's some opinions:

Pro's:

1: Plays burned DVD's, VCD's, and MP3 cd's.

2: Has a 7 inch screen that isn't too dark or too bright.

3: Big -BOLD- fonts for adjustment menus and Mp3 selection.

4: Comes with built in speakers and optional headphone ports.

5: Comes with everything you need to use it with your RCA-capable TV.

6: Screen can turn off with the player still running Mp3 discs or CD's.

Cons:

1: No directional cursor button? (Ok, its on the remote, which takes a BATTERY)) You can't get by on just Play, Rewind and Fast Forward alone!

2: With all that extra panel space, they could have easily included Subtitle and Audio switching buttons on the player ITSELF!

3: Couldn't get any mp3's to play due to no Directional button, would've been nice if the titles scrolled and were not cut off after 2 words.

4: Proprietary batteries, this means you can't just hop off the Greyhound, run into a gas station and slap some fresh AA's into the player.

Getting something like this for $99 is a helluvalot smarter than getting an I-pod Video for $200 as you can simply BURN movies and music videos to discs with a CD or DVD burner drive (mosta the movies and music I like is FOREIGN, and would probably be impossible to find on I-tunes or whatever), definately shop around and see if there's better models out there. ^^

I bought my Accurian DVD player at radio shack I read everything I could before I used it I think it said to charge it before you use it i'm not sure. So i did then I turned it on and put a dvd in and it worked perfectly. I then burned a dvd and data disk with around 120 songs on it it played both with no problems now i have had it for about a year and it still works very well. I very suprized it got such low ratings.

Got this DVD Player from Radio Shack for only $90 at the same time as got a $200 Sony DVP-FX810 DVD Player as a gift..
was later sent some DVDs from England of a family wedding and was happily surprised to find that whilst the Sony DVD player would not play the foreign DVDs this one does!

I then tested both players with various DVDs and found that this one plays any DVD I put in :) Bargain!

On the downside, it doesn't have directional buttons on the player itself (to skip around menu options), only on the remote.

This portable DVD player works wonderfully, it was exactly what our family needed to make our drive to Florida bearable.

I bought this portable DVD, about a year ago. Used it about 3 times. About a week ago got it out and wanted to play a new DVD. It came on the audio was very low and the picture had a slight image. I took it to Radio Shack and ask for help, thought maybe I was doing somethin wrong. He told me he would have to send it back for repair and the charge would be $25.00 to check it out, they would call me and let me know what is the problem is and the cost. I feel it would cost me more than the worth of the DVD Player. Would like to have one that works...I bought it for my husband for his Birthday. I am very disappointed.

I hate to write negative reviews on products but this unfortunately took the cake this Christmas. I received one of these players as a Christmas gift purchased from Radioshack. The resolution was pretty decent as was the sound and the color and black levels of the screen were also pretty good. I charged it and made sure it was ready for a trip to Florida I was taking the following week. Got it on the airplane and the screen wouldn't turn on unless I touched the plastic around the screen in just the right spot. So I exchanged it at a local Radioshack once I got to Florida. The one that replaced it had a perfectly fine screen but this one wouldn't play any DVD that the first one played. So I went back to the Radioshack where the original was purchased when I got home in hopes of exchanging it for the 3rd time. The one the employee was going to swap it with though had something seriously wrong with the screen where it was jumping around and flickering. It was at that point that I just returned the whole thing for a refund since it wasn't even worth the hassle anymore. I guess in this case we got what we paid for although I don't always believe that statement to hold true.
