5.0 out of 5 stars Trying a man's judgement, December 2, 2010

This review is from: Accused (Paperback)
Mark Gimenez, who knows Texas, takes his plotting and local color skills to the Gulf Coast for this legal thriller, which is in the Scott Turow tradition. Million-dollar Dallas attorney A. (for Atticus) Scott Fenney leaves Highland Park for Galveston to defend his ex-wife on a murder charge. The story is as good as the premise, and it goes down to the last sentence. Did Rebecca Fenney kill pro golfer Trey Rollins, the man she left her husband for? Gimenez, himself a BOI (Born on the Island), introduces readers to Galveston--after Hurricane Ike. The city becomes one of Gimenez's characters but doesn't get in the way of the compelling mystery, which climaxes with a twisting, turning murder trial, which is tastier than the shrimp at Gaido's.

This is a sequel to The Color of Law, and we find it amazing that this writer is not more widely known and that he is not widely published in the U.S. We read every book of Mark Gimenez that we can get our hands on, and thoroughly enjoy each one. Thank goodness that Amazon can give access to such writers.

My book club chose this book. I had never heard of Mark Gimenez before but love legal thrillers. To say the least, I was wonderfully surprised. Plus, our entire club enjoyed the book - which is most unusual! I can't wait to read his other books!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great One from Gimenez, November 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Accused (Paperback)
I have loved every one of Mark Gimenez's previous books, so I had great expectations of this one. It did not disappoint. In Accused, Gimenez revisits the characters introduced in his first book, The Color of Law, nicely wrapping up some loose ends. Accused is exactly the kind of mystery I love - I was never quite sure "whodunit" or why, with a number of different alternatives all seeming equally plausible at one point or another in the book. After the last page, I exclaimed, "HA! I KNEW it!," except in truth, I didn't really, not for sure.

I've never understood why the author no longer has a US publisher, as his books are far superior to much of, and at least the equal of, any of the stuff currently coming from US publishers. I was thrilled to learn recently that his next book is scheduled to be released in the US as a Kindle version when it comes out, so I won't have to wait until I can order it used from a UK reseller.

If you like mysteries, you need to give Mark Gimenez a try. If you read and liked The Color of Law, you need to read Accused. You don't have to read The Color of Law before you read Accused, but if you're inclined to do so, I believe it woould add to your enjoyment of Accused.

Mark Gimenez is a wonderful author. I first read "The Color of Money" and searched for several years to read his newest book. There were several years between this book and the next book. He is a wonderful, maybe at this time an unknown author, but that will change as more realize his writing style. It is difficult to stop reading once you read the first page. I only hope he will continue writing his books. I have all five of his books and now await for the sixth book. A gifted writer of legal novels. You can purchase any of his books and you will not be disappointed.

Accused is more than a tale of betrayal it is also a travelogue of old Galveston and an accurate history of the early days and glory of that city. The story of the attorny and his two girls is fun to read, and the interactions of the characters is good. I am not certain why this author is not more popular in this country...especially n Texas.

5.0 out of 5 stars A legal thriller that grabs you, September 3, 2011
This review is from: Accused (Kindle Edition)
Ever since reading the printed version of Ayn Rand's stage play Night of January 16th, I have had a strange fascination for books about women on trial for murder - anything from many of the old "Perry Mason" books of Erle Stanley Gardner to A Fool for a Client - and this one was no exception. But whereas in Client, the tension sprang from the woman defendant's refusal to cooperate with her standby counsel, in this case it springs from the fact that the accused woman is the ex-wife of the defense attorney. And the fact that the deceased is the man she left him for enhances the tension and intensifies the drama.

What I particularly like about this book is that the lawyer is a well-rounded, family man and thus a three-dimensional character. This is an excellent legal thriller that I would highly recommend.

Love it, loved it. We anxiously await his next book!! The characters in the book are really developing their identifies and this series has great potential. I would suggest this series to anyone who enjoys reading series by Darryl Wimberly, James Lee Burke, John Sandford and Steve Barry, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book!!, June 1, 2010

This book was one of the best I've read. It had many twists and turns and had you guessing until the very end. That's my idea of a great read. I highly recommend this book. My only question is why are this American author's books only published in England? Weird!!
