I have used for almost five years. Works simply and is effective. Not perfect but sharpens in ten easy strokes if knife isn't really dull. I use on pocket knifes, large bladed paper cutters and even household knives. I keep one in my work tool kit and one at home. Follow directions and use light easy strokes, more strokes if blade is dull, not more pressure.

The Accusharp knife sharpener is an answer to a klutz's prayers. I had given up hope of finding a fix for my drawer of dull knives until I took the advice of Cooks Illustrated magazine and purchased this gem. It does what it is supposed to quickly, effectively, and best of all, inexpensively. Don't dawdle, just buy it!

The primary component I used in this kit was the knife sharpener. It was superb at putting an extremely sharp edge on a stainless steel sword that had not yet been sharpened - about twenty minutes per side was enough. The edge is not as clean and polished as sharpening by hand might be, but it is still very effective, and extremely simple. I also picked up a replacement set of sharpening tips, but I have not yet had to use them despite putting brand-new edges on a short sword, and sharpening up several dulled hobby-knife blades, swiss-army-knife blades, an old Ka-Bar knife, and several garden clippers (although I had to partially dismantle them to get a good angle on their blades). Several of these were quite dull, and now they're dangerously sharp. I definitely believe I got my money's worth. I did attempt to use it on some letter openers, but their angle and metal composition do not seem to be compatible. I had my best results with steel or stainless steel. I also tried the scissors sharpener, and it seems to work well, but the scissors I had at the time weren't particularly dull to begin with, so it's more difficult to tell.

Both of these sharpeners work perfectly. I was skeptical that a sharpener at this price was going to work, but decided to try them based on the reviews and the extremely reasonable price.

Just a few passes over a knife blade and/or scissors is all it takes to get a very nice, sharp edge. After sharpening my pocket knife, I do hone the blade on a ceramic bar, but that is just because I like to keep it very, very sharp. The Accusharp leaves a very tiny burr on the blade edge that the ceramic removes. The scissor sharpener also leaves a slight burr, but that is removed by simply using the scissors.

This is the first knife sharpener that really works. I had misgivings when purchased but when a knife dealer/sharpener advised me to get one of these instead of paying him sometimes as much a $20 per knife. He stated that it isn't as good as his work (obviously) but it is the closest thing to it. I would highly recommend it to anyone who owns/uses sharp knives.Accusharp 012C Combo Pack Knife Sharpener

I own all the Acusharp products and they do just what they say they will do.
I've used several kinds of knife sharpeners and these little tools are by far the best for my needs.
I now have a block full of very sharp knifes and my kitchen sheers cut like new.

1.The AccuSharp knife sharpener is incredibly easy to use and a terrific product. It brought back an ancient, non-stainless chef's knife from the dead. It not only put an edge back on it for the first time in years, I was able to take out most of the nicks and gouges from 40 years of pitting, and did it by only removing a minimum amount of metal. Not all knives need this kind of sharpening, nor should they have it, but the point is this handy little tool was a great alternative to a professional sharpening on a grinding wheel and it more than paid for itself on the first day. It did a yeoman's job on my stainless knives too. Unless you're dealing with an almost lost cause be sure you use very light, steady pressure and don't oversharpen. Three to five passes should take care of most knives. Five big, fat, juicy stars for the knife sharpener.

2. The scissors sharpener is much harder to use. You have to be able to precisely follow the beveled edge of the scissor, which pretty much means you have to put it in a bench vise, and it really helps if the scissors can be unscrewed to hold each half separately. If you can't unscrew them there will be that small part near the "V" that you can't reach with the tool -- just look at the picture to see what I'm talking about. And you need a strong light to see the precise angle of the edge. I wouldn't even try it on a small pair like embroidery scissors. There is an online video in the usual place but it makes it look much easier than it is. And take note of the package disclaimer that it is "not recommended for use on... barber, beautician or dressmaker shears." In other words, don't use it on your good scissors.Three stars for the ShearSharp Scissors Sharpener part.

So total of four stars but unless you've got a bench vise I'd skip the two-item combo pack and go straight for just the knife sharpener.

I bought this last week based off the reviews of everyone else and I agree this is a great sharpener!
Three passes of the sharpener over my pocket knife and blade was good as new! Very sharp!
Don't over pay this is worth it!
