Cheapest way to sharpen knives,,,,

This review is from: Accusharp 012C Combo Pack Knife Sharpener (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have used for almost five years. Works simply and is effective. Not perfect but sharpens in ten easy strokes if knife isn't really dull. I use on pocket knifes, large bladed paper cutters and even household knives. I keep one in my work tool kit and one at home. Follow directions and use light easy strokes, more strokes if blade is dull, not more pressure.

The Accusharp knife sharpener is an answer to a klutz's prayers. I had given up hope of finding a fix for my drawer of dull knives until I took the advice of Cooks Illustrated magazine and purchased this gem. It does what it is supposed to quickly, effectively, and best of all, inexpensively. Don't dawdle, just buy it!

The primary component I used in this kit was the knife sharpener. It was superb at putting an extremely sharp edge on a stainless steel sword that had not yet been sharpened - about twenty minutes per side was enough. The edge is not as clean and polished as sharpening by hand might be, but it is still very effective, and extremely simple. I also picked up a replacement set of sharpening tips, but I have not yet had to use them despite putting brand-new edges on a short sword, and sharpening up several dulled hobby-knife blades, swiss-army-knife blades, an old Ka-Bar knife, and several garden clippers (although I had to partially dismantle them to get a good angle on their blades). Several of these were quite dull, and now they're dangerously sharp. I definitely believe I got my money's worth. I did attempt to use it on some letter openers, but their angle and metal composition do not seem to be compatible. I had my best results with steel or stainless steel. I also tried the scissors sharpener, and it seems to work well, but the scissors I had at the time weren't particularly dull to begin with, so it's more difficult to tell.
