Biography

Harmonica master Charlie Musselwhite’s life reads like a classic blues song: born in Mississippi, raised in Memphis and schooled on the South Side of Chicago. A groundbreaking recording artist since the 1960s, Musselwhite continues to create trailblazing music while remaining firmly rooted in the blues. His worldly-wise vocals, rich, melodic harmonica playing and deep country blues guitar work… Read more in Amazon's Charlie Musselwhite Store

Editorial Reviews

From Grove Press Guide to Blues on CD

Twenty-seven years and fourteen albums since taking up the Chicago blues torch, Musslewhite's rich instrumental tone has the emotional specificity of a spectrographic analysis and his low voice saturates lyrics with unfeigned feeling. Today, too, his working band-three firebrands conversant with funk and rock as well as blues changes-keeps him alert, though it should have butted out on this set's wistful chestnut, "Yesterdays." On ten songs, including a country blues featuring his acoustic guitar, Musslewhite is compelling more often than entertaining. -- © Frank John Hadley 1993

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Blues album, September 5, 2004
By

This review is from: Ace of Harps (Audio CD)
This album of hard driven rock and roll blues ranks along with sacred classics such as "The Paul Butterfield Blues Band" (self-titled), "Howling Wolf-The London Sessions, Muddy Waters-Fathers and Sons and B.B. King-Live at the Regal. There is a quote on the back cover from Charlie himself saying "This is the best damn band I've ever had". This is probably true. The guitar and harmonica played unison screaming solos sometimes and other times there is whirling improv. The lyrics have the right combination of bar-stool wisdom and genuine pain. Charlie veteran whiskey gravel vocals are perfection itself. Don't miss this great album!

All I have to say that if you are a harmonica fan, a player or if it is your future then Musselwhite is your man! This is a truely fantastic CD show casing some of Charlie's excellent tunes. He is a wonderful blues man and American harmonica icon.Buy this and feel his emotion and the power of his instrument.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sometimes older is better..., May 11, 2000

Charlie is pretty traditional blues but they write some great music and I think any blues fan would love this CD. I compare him with William Clarke which is a compliment to Charlie. Keep it up Charlie...sometimes older is better!
