5.0 out of 5 stars Great even for Non IT people
Aside from all the great things stated above, I can personally attest as a non IT person that this book has helped me get my new job. My wife, a software engineer, suggested it after her success with it. I have since had 3 other people find great success on thier interviews after I recommended this book. READ IT!

I thought this book would be filled with technical questions and answers to review before a technical interview. Was I ever wrong. Out of 6 parts (and part 6 is all appendices) the first four have no interview questions. They have to do with resume writing, networking, increasing your confidence, making a great first impression etc. etc. That leaves one part for...

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Amazing IT interview book available; Highly Recommended, December 30, 2003
By A Customer
I started my job search months ago and was getting turned down left and right. I had no idea what I was doing wrong until I got some information from a recruiter on how to interview. I realized that there was a lot of information and ideas on interviewing I was clueless about. So I did my own research and decided to by this book.

After thouroughly reading it, I was amazed with the things that you can do an Interview. It enlightened me to a new style of interviewing. So I went to my next interview and the hiring manager liked me so much he offered me the management position, I couldn't believe it. This book is #1. If your tired of going on interviews with no responses afterwards. READ THIS BOOK!!! I guarantee you get the job that you want. I did and I did it myself. It really feels good to know you did it. That's All. Good Luck!

I started preparing for interview with that book, I was really impressed. It's a good help for people who want to get familiar with interview questions.
It has a lot for a different type of jobs ,Don't use this book as the only source to prepare; there are a few more that are MUST read, like the boost Interview IQ book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Informative and Well Presented, June 2, 2004

Like many of us in the real world, looking for that perfect IT Job is like looking for a needle in a haystack, this book discussess everything surrounding an IT interview, hiring manager's perceptions, etc. This book helps to develop IT Job candidate in every possible scenario.

I've done my fare share of interviewing, but my success rate is rather low until a friend recommended this material, the read was so down to earth and right on the money, specially when the book breaks down everything by job title and possible Q&A.

It certainly help me land my current job, and the interview went just like the book depicts your current job title. I highly recommend this book, it will help you just like it did me. Good Luck.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Have for IT job seekers, April 30, 2004
By
For months I kept going to job interviews and was frustrated time after time after time. I never got call backs and I didn't understand what I was doing wrong. After a while I realized I needed an edge, and after searching for a while I stumbled across the Ace the IT job interview book. I read reviews for it and decided to spend the money. After reading it and following some of the instructions and doing many of the exercises, things changed dramatically. The first 2 interviews I secured after completing the book, I got called in for 2nd interviews, something that wasn't happening before. I narrowly missed out on those but my confidence was soaring. I went from a job seeker to a VITP (read the book to find out what that is) and thats how I started to come across. I secured another interview and I did so well they made the decision to hire me while I was interviewing with some other members of the I.T. team! (No lie).

I HIGHLY recommend this book to those of you who are going through what I went through. The market is tough for techies right now, so you have to stand out from the pack. This book will help you be prepared to snag your next job.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice book to have while interviewing, May 12, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a pretty decent book to go thru a couple of times while you are hunting for jobs. For any single person, only a portion of the book would be useful, seeing that it addressess various job functionalities sequentially, so be ready to skip ahead whenever you are reading. The structure of the book is very good, and the language is direct, neither too preachy nor condescending. I liked the fact that I could look up the positions I am after, and base my preparations on what this book tells me to expect : it makes it easier for anybody to know what to prepare for.

At the same time, this book does not pretend to be comprehensive : a Java programmer might easily be asked many more questions than what appear here, and of different types too. But if you are paying attention while going thru the given questions, you could easily identify what exactly you would be found lacking in if you were in the hot seat right this moment.

For the price of a book, definitely worth it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too Much Psychology, Not Enough Q&A, April 22, 2006
I thought this book would be filled with technical questions and answers to review before a technical interview. Was I ever wrong. Out of 6 parts (and part 6 is all appendices) the first four have no interview questions. They have to do with resume writing, networking, increasing your confidence, making a great first impression etc. etc. That leaves one part for technical questions and answers. Part 5 is what I thought I was paying for and consists of one chapter totaling just over 150 pages. Here's a sample question under the job category of Database Adminstrator: "What is a trigger? What is the most complex trigger you have written?" Answer: "A trigger is a common database element and you should be prepared to discuss how you've used this element in the past- for instance, to implement business rules. Try to be as specific as you can in your examples of the types of triggers you've created." That's the whole Q&A on triggers. Definitely not enough detail for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is a gold mine! Helped me land a great PM job., June 26, 2003

I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a job in IT. After unsuccessfully interviewing for a few positions, my friend told me about this book. It was like finding an answer key for a test! I read the chapters relevant to my situation and prepared a cheat sheet. I went in to my next interview brimming with confidence because I felt prepared for any question they could ask me. I am convinced it made the difference.

The most valuable part of the book for me was the sample questions and answers for specific job titles. During my interview the hiring manager asked three key questions that were straight out of the the Project Manager section of this book. I nailed the questions and got the job. If you are serious about finding a new job, this book is definitely worth your money and time, even if you only read one chapter.
