I already have a very nice Katana with a Damascus Blade that cost me 99.99 and sells still for 169.99 most places. This sword is almost as nice but not quite. The weakness comes in the blade type and the handle grips as well as the over-all workmanship. Make no mistake this is a carbon steel blade and can be used for real cutting and slicing of anything soft to medium hard. It would do only "Ok" as a real fighting sword. Still for the price I like it. It is on my 8 sword stand now. It is my 3rd favorite the 2 above it both cost more. I rate this sword based on price and overall workmanship as well as materials used as a 5-star buy. My bottom sword is a 2 star buy so I do rate them low if they are junk. You will like this sword if you buy it, but know that at this price they cut some corners on the little things keeping the blade nice, but there are no fancy dressings for the most part on this sword. Yes, buy it!

I also took this camping. This katana made short work of shrubs, limbs, milk jugs and 2-liter bottles. It makes very clean cuts through all of the above, and I have a short video I will post at a later date that demonstrates this. Aside from a very small ding in the tip, this blade shows no signs of wear and still has a very sharp edge. The grip is similar to my other, much more expensive katana, but the sword overall is lighter, which I like. Either that or I'm stronger than I used to be. I don't have my old sword anymore so there's no way to make a comparison, but I just remember it being a good bit heavier.

I like that this sword is carbon steel instead of stainless. I have read that carbon blades are much more durable than stainless steel. If you're going to use it, you might want to clean it well after use and perhaps keep it lightly oiled so as to prevent rust. This sword is great for display as well as for actual use, and I'd dare say it would hold up fairly well in a real fight, though I hope it never comes to that...for anyone. Though on second thought, I bet there'd be fewer wars in the world if we all reverted back to sword, bow, and armor. There's a huge difference between squeezing the trigger from a hundred yards and getting up close and personal to deliver the killing blow from a few feet.

The design is simple yet elegant. The sheathe is hard plastic with a wood liner, all black with black cord. The sword measures a standard 42" and is well balanced. For the money, you won't find a better blade. I highly recommend.

The sword came fast, earliest ship date possible. Overall, it is sharp but I would not consider it fully razor sharp. The tsuba is very elegant and beautiful although it seems as though it has rusted. It is full tang as said in the product description and the sword all together is very beautiful. I will buy from here again.

Overall the sword is very nice, but i have a few gripes. Almost immediately after getting it out of the cloth (which was nice and unexpected by the way), the metal piece on the bottom of the handle fell off, but i just glued it back on. (No sorry i don't know names for the parts of a sword). Also the sheath thingy does not close tightly onto the little metal piece on the blade, and the sword is kind of loose in the sheath thingy as well. Also the wood for the sheath actually has a pretty bad crack where the sword goes into it As i said though, overall it is a nice sword and i really like it for only 50 dollars (although with the crack i wouldn't have paid 50). For the most part it is very solidly built, the blade is sharp as hell, yes i would say razor sharp for mine. It easily passed the paper test. And another test i do, is drop it onto a piece of cardboard, to see how much it is cutting, and how much it is really just breaking or pushing down. Well even with no force behind it, it cut cleanly. This is by far the sharpest knife or sword of any sort i have ever had. Honestly, this is probably one of the best katanas you will find for this price.

I would like to point out that this is NOT an authentic handmade katana, nor was it meant to be for this price. The Hamon (temper line) is wire brushed on so it was not tempered, and the blade is 1045 high carbon steel hammered out but not folded. If your looking for authenticity in more than just aesthetics look elsewhere.

That said this is a very solidly built katana and it would make a great display piece, or something to chop up water bottles in the back yard of your home. The menuki (handle ornament) fuchi and kashira (handle fittings) all appear to be made of brass or iron. The Tsuka (handle) is tightly wrapped, and there is nothing loose between it and the blade. The blade itself is full tang with mekugi pegs along with decent quality steel, so this katana will hold up for light and to some extent medium target cutting. I cannot reccomend anything more than medium target cutting as the blade is not folded or reinforced with softer steel, nor is it heat tempered so against harder targets it could break and cause injury.

All in all I would call this an excellent display piece or light practice cutting katana. The blade is not razor sharp but serviceable. Also bear in mind that the steel used in the blade is pretty pure, so you will likely want to purchase a kit to clean and oil the blade to prevent oxidization, especially if you plan to use it to cut targets.
