5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully fast, painful, adrenalized...a classic, December 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ace of Spades (Audio CD)
Castle has done a superb job (as usual) with this reissue. Not only do you get the entire great "Ace of Spades" album remastered, you also get a cool B side (Dirty Love) and two lost classics including the duet with Girlschool "Please Don't Touch" which is basically the soundtrack to Grease on speed, whiskey, parole and a bed of nails. Motorhead is almost a way of life more than it's a band (and Lemmy is a truly revered folk hero in some circles) but, as a BAND, Motorhead never sounded better, tighter, or more amphetaminized than on Ace of Spaces, without doubt their best all-original studio album. Casual fans (like fans of modern metal who want to go back and find the influences of say Megadeth and Metallica) might be better off with No Remorse, which has all the hits. But Ace of Spades belongs in every classics-of-metal collection, alongside Uriah Heep's first album, Judas Priest's Sad Wings of Destiny, Slayer's Reign in Blood, Metallica's Ride The Lightning, etc. Motorhead took the Cream-type trio concept and turned it up to eleven. Hundred.

5.0 out of 5 stars No pussies allowed...., August 27, 2001

This review is from: Ace of Spades (Audio CD)
Anybody who doesn't like this should be whipped & beaten with iron bars and bike chains. Over twenty years now and it ain't dated at all. I like ALL the tunes including the three bonus ones they added to the CD. My personal faves; "Dance" and "(We Are) The Road Crew". 'Limp Bizcut' and those phony 'Rage Against the Machine' posers NOT allowed... Lemmy rules, man...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best offering from Lemmy and the Gang, April 18, 2000
This review is from: Ace of Spades (Audio CD)
For anyone who likes metal or plays metal, somewhere down the road they have been introduced to Motorhead. This album is the essential Motorhead album as far as studio albums go. It has power, speed, anger and Fast Eddie's great blues-influenced licks and solos. All of the songs capture Motohead's live sound which is hard to do in the studio. The tracks have a rawness about them that is honest, there are obviously little to no overdubs or added parts to most songs. IN essence, it sounds like it was recorded live. The album starts off with perhaps the bands most well-known track, "Ace of Spades". The album has more to offer than that however. There are the boogie-beat inspired "Dance", the backstage sights of "Jailbait", the ode to his crew "We are the Road Crew" and my personal favorite, "Love me like a Reptile" which offers us Lemmy's perspective on love. This Album does not have a bad track and they all have that signature Motorhead sound which just makes the whole album rock. If you don't know Motorhead or need to be re-introduced to one of the greatest Rock/Metal bands who have influenced the Likes of Metallica and Armored Saint, get this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely essential., March 28, 2001

Although Motorhead have made several albums that are just as good, if not better than "Ace Of Spades," this one serves as the best introduction to Motorhead. While many people speak of Motorhead as "proto-thrash metal," there is a distinct blues-iness to the playing that is woefully overlooked, so if you think you're going to get Cannibal Corpse or something, you're in for a rude awakening. However, if you like REAL rock and roll, the kind of stuff that Little Richard and AC/DC play, and you like it fast, hard, and loud, this is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars The only card I need is the ACE OF SPADES!!!!!!!, July 7, 2005
This review is from: Ace of Spades (Audio CD)
This is without a doubt Motorhead's highest point. Every track is just is just a pure headbanging. Needless to say that the title-track is one of rock'n'roll's loudest, most essential anthems. And what is to be said about the closing track: "THE HAMMER"? YEAH! BELIEVE ME THE HAMMER'S GONNA MAKE YOU DIE... ouch!
FIRE! FIRE! A record for you and your mates to pogo to... It's MAGIC!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ace of Spades, March 17, 2004

Possibly the greatest heavy metal album ever recorded. This album set the bar very high for all other bands. This album builds on the first three ( Motorhead, Overkill and Bomber). Lots of great catchy riffs, and some pretty cool lyrics as well. You can't say that Lemmy is the next Tolstoy, but his lyrics are plain and simple. This was my first Motorhead album and they became my band. The extra tracks are great for the compleatists out there who may not have picked them up the first time around on vinyl. It's nice that they kept the original ( from the pounding "Ace of Spades" right thru to "The Hammer") order of songs from the European release instead of the mixed up North American. It's a shame that this would be the next to last studio album for this lineup ( Lemmy, Fast Eddie and Philthy ) which in my opinion was the best, of the many different incarnations with Lemmy always leading the way. If you get any heavy metal album start with this you won't be disappointed!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard - driving metal at it's best!, September 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Ace of Spades (Audio CD)
Excellent! Ace of Spades is full of fast riffs, fast drums and Lemmy's gravel-like voice. This is their best work yet. "Shoot You in the Back","Road Crew", "Jailbait", "Fast and Loose" and "Live to Win" are all rhythmic, not absent minded pounding. I could do without "Love me like a Reptile". "Dance", "Fire Fire" and title track "Ace of Spades" rock very hard. Satisfying for Heavy Metal tastes. If you like Metallica, you'll like this album. This album takes me back to high school.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic, June 5, 2000
This review is from: Ace of Spades (Audio CD)
Lemmy and crew are in top form here. If you want to hear Motorhead at the height of their powers, then this is the CD to get. It is one of their top five releases in my opinion. The music is loud, fast, hard, jagged, driving and mean. From start to finish, this album will teach you what heavy metal is all about!
