Nice For Its Day, But Slow & Glitchy Compared to New Models,
By
This review is from: MP3 PLAYER 5GB-RCA (Electronics)
I bought this very model of mp3 player about five or six years ago. I have played it A LOT. It was definitely worth the price I paid which was about double what it is going for now. There are things I still really like about it but there are also things that really bug me, so I have since gotten a new Sandisk Sansa Clip +.Pros: There is a lot of information on the screen which is a big plus for me. It shows the song title, artist, album title, genre, year, the time length of the track and how much time has elapsed. I wish more mp3 players had this feature. The information doesn't disappear either. It shows constantly. The light comes on for a few seconds if you adjust something but, when it just sits playing, the light will be out but the information can still be seen. The sound quality is excellent. It is very loud. Louder than my new mp3 player. I hook it up to a pair of cheap $10 speakers in the warehouse I work at and can hear the music well throughout the warehouse. It doesn't even need to be turned up to the maximum. The music I have on my player are mp3s I've recorded from LPs and cassettes, so they are not even that great of quality, but it comes in loud and clear on this player. Cons: Unfortunately, this is not the perfect player. One complaint I have is how slow it is. It can take up to a half minute for a song to start playing. It also takes time to see the list of artists or song titles. My new player starts playing almost immediately. I really notice how slow this player is in comparison. Another con is that, when it is playing on shuffle, it will play songs in the same order. I started noticing this when I played it on shuffle for hours at a time at work. I recognized a pattern of the same songs being played in the same order from day to day. It does not seem to repeat songs in shuffle mode until the player is shut off and turned on again, which is a plus. I am not sure if this type of shuffling is the norm as I haven't played any other style player enough to recognize playlist patterns. Another thing about the shuffle mode is, you cannot go back to the song it just played. Skipping ahead or backward will play different songs. It does not keep its track order but will re-shuffle. The battery power is not holding up. I've noticed it does not play for the same number of hours at a time that it used to, but perhaps that is the norm when a player has been used as much as mine. It takes a long time to charge. Hooked to a computer, it takes about 5-6 hours to fully charge. The biggest con for me, though, is how it sometimes skips during a song. It will be playing a song and, suddenly, start playing a different song. The information for the original track is on the screen, but it is playing a different song. Sometimes it will skip several times. This will continue until the original track ends. You can also stop it by skipping to the next track, but it will go to another song and you cannot return to the song it was playing unless you select it specifically. I noticed a pattern in that certain songs will trigger a skip. This glitch is the biggest flaw in this model and it seems to have gotten worse with age. Its current price may make its cons worth it as there are some really nice things about this player, but the skipping glitch is so annoying, I have to drop two stars despite the many years of music I've listened to with this player.

Economic, but amazing!,

I've had this exact model MP3 player for several years, and I wouldn't want anything else. 5gb of storage space is sufficient for my needs. It supports WMA or MP3 formats, and is fully compatible with Windows Media Player 11 and a USB 2.0 connection.
The device itself has proven very hardy. Despite numerous falls, it still works perfectly. I've used it in weather of about 40F with no noticeable lack of battery life. I have never had it freeze up or fail in any way. No complaints about it at all. I wouldn't want anything else, really.

A Great MP3 Player.,

I own an iPOd and this player and I have to say that I used this product more often than my iPod as I am afraid to break my iPod. I have used this player for years and it has never failed on me. I have even dropped it several times but it still works great. The player has 5 gb of space so I can carry a lot of my music to work and play. Whenever I have a need to add new music I just simply sync it on my computer much like the way I sync my iPod. It also works with Windows Media 11 which is great unlike the iPod. The price that this thing sells for is great. It also makes a great gift for a child as you don't want to buy an expensive iPod which he or she can easily break or lose. It makes a nice alternative to the iPod. The only drawback is that it only comes in one color, silver. I would have wanted a white or black one to match my outfit. Other than that, it is a value.
