If there was to be just one pop-culture character with 'franchise' written all over it, it would be Ace Ventura. After the sleeper hit that was the original, Ace is shipped off to Africa, via Tibet, to find the missing sacred animal of the peaceful Wachati tribe. It is supposed to be a wedding gift to the savage Wachutu tribe, marking the congregation of their people.

Ace is the best there is (the only there is) surely sending him to find the sacred bat (his most hated creature) is the 'right' thing to do. No matter how crazy he is. And how crazy indeed! This time around Jim Carrey goes completely wild as Ace. Any trace of an actual human that we saw before is surrendered to complete insanity. You can tell that Carrey is having the time of his life just ad-libbing and winging it. You can almost hear director Steve Oedekerk struggle to contain his laughter off-camera. There are even a few moments when Carrey himself almost cracks-up.

I prefer the sequel to the first for a few reasons. First of all the production design is far superior and the faux-African jungle (actually South Carolina) and tribal village colors really come alive. The widescreen photography gives the film a more expansive look than Tom Shadyac's original. Plus, it has a lot more animals, which I think is cool. You gotta love the 'alrighty then' meditation scene too.

Beside's the animated show (a few episodes are featured on this DVD set), there's been no more of Ace Ventura since. But don't rule him out. Carrey may be sick of being regarded as the guy who once made his anus talk, but I can only hope he'll do a third one day.

This has been one of my favorite movies for years and I watch it when I need a pick up. While a juvenile humor it is definitely humorous.

Jim Carrey provides a great entertainment value by talking out of his rear to animals, and well to humans too. I could point out every word of this movie and tell you to go see it or you should stick your head in guano if you dont like it.. but really this movie is fun, its childish, and Immature and for some unknown reason I love it and laugh my butt off every single time I watch it. So alrighty than... go get your giggle on.

We expected more crazy antics by our favorite pet detective (is there really that many out there?) and that's what we get...and not really much more. Jim Carrey returns as Ace Ventura in this somewhat classic fish-out-of-water story as he heads into the jungles of a fictional African nation to recover a missing sacred bat that can apparently bring people together and prevent wars. While it was cool to see a real-life version of the monkey Spike here (I previously saw the cartoon version of this guy) the rest of the film was somewhat disjointed and overwhelmingly underwhelming in comparison to the first film. The scene of Ace's departure from the monastery and the later scene with the mechanical rhino were just plain disturbing. Where'd Ace get that thing anyway? And how'd he just happen to come across probably the only monster truck in all of Africa at the end of the film? All these questions and more will not be answered in this feature. The film still had a fair amount of jokes worth laughing at (I enjoyed the interrogation scene and its immediate aftermath) but the first film was noticeably better...maybe the aforementioned fish was too far out of the water. But any Ace Ventura or Jim Carrey fan will get some laughs out of this, though there are better options. Enjoy.

I'm a huge Jim Carrey fan and I'd heard of the two Ace Ventura movies a couple of times in the past, but I never really went out to look for them. Then I saw "When Nature Calls" at a friend's house and I was laughing hysterically the whole time.
The most hilarious parts in this movie are the "rhino giving birth" scene, the fact that whenever someone says "Shikaka", the Wachati tribe members present will kneel and Ace uses it as a sort of "Simon Says" game, the Wachutu tests, and the beginning when Ace uses a Slinky on those hundreds of stone steps singing "Everyone loves a Slinky, you gotta get a Slinky! Slinky, Slinky, go Slinky, GO!"
Summary: It's a great movie that will make all Jim Carrey fans laugh out loud at least once.

Ok I just dug up an old video of this movie and memories came floating back. When i was like 7 or 8 my parents bought the movie (oblivious to the rating) and i watched it again and again. Oh and after i watched it every time i started talking like him.

Man when i watched it now as 14 years old I got all the jokes. Their not that bad (if anyone watches Are You Being Served its about as bad as that)

its just so funny. I mean some of the non-sex jokes are kinda funny but over all its great.

Its a real family movie.

Jim Carry at his best.

Peace Out

This movie really makes me laugh. A lot of the gags are child-like, and that's the whole point. Ace acts like a big kid who doesn't care what anybody thinks about him. You can live vicariously through his antics.

There are so many funny scenes, and I love quoting them with my friends. And we always laugh really hard at remembering them. Even when I pull up quotes from this movie on my phone... they always crack me up.

It's too bad we never got a third Ace Ventura movie. I'm not sure if Jim could pull it off this late in the game. But we still have this one to laugh over.

Carrey is fantastic in this movie. Of the two, I like this one the best.
