5.0 out of 5 stars Nice bright display
My 21" Nokia CRT finally gave out last week and I ordered up two of these Acer AL1912 LCD's to run off of my dual head video card. I checked around for a straight replacement for my old 21" but found the price on an equal monitor had actually gone up. I noticed the Acer LCD on sale for just over 3 bills and figured two would make a great replacement and give me a little...

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice bright display, March 24, 2005
This review is from: Acer 19-inch LCD Flat Panel Monitor (Electronics)
My 21" Nokia CRT finally gave out last week and I ordered up two of these Acer AL1912 LCD's to run off of my dual head video card. I checked around for a straight replacement for my old 21" but found the price on an equal monitor had actually gone up. I noticed the Acer LCD on sale for just over 3 bills and figured two would make a great replacement and give me a little more desktop real estate to work with.

After setup, I measured the new 19" LCD and the old 21" screens to compare and found the actual viewable size was only 3/4" smaller! Though max resolution is 1280 x 1024 on the LCD, I only notice a small difference, the addition of the 2nd flat panel though yeilded a great deal of welcome new space. The new LCD has a very nice bright and vivid display and after installing the driver, I was able to update the refresh frequency to 75hz and play my favorite first person shooter (counterstrike source).

Games are always the toughest test for any computer system so a component that can game well, will definately do great on any desktop application like photo editing, or web browsing. I noticed while browsing a couple sites, the white background of pages was so bright it was actually too much so I cranked the brightness down to 50%. The display stand and case have a nice black design that is compact compared to its equal CRT counterpart and compliment my black computer case and keyboard. The shelf on my desk that the CRT monitor used to sit on had a sag of about 1" that leveled back out after its removal and replacement of the new LCD. The more compact LCD also takes up much less space on my desk so I have room for more junk food and empty coke cans... what a great bonus :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value, March 2, 2005

I thought this monitor would be too good to be true for the price. It is fast, clear and I have not touched a control since getting it out of the box. It has been a joy to play video games on. Its footprint is tiny and I really enjoy the increased desk space. The screen geometry seems perfect. I am using 1280 by 1024 resolution and have no problem seeing anything and I have "over 40" eye sight. I had to clean it and just used a dry cotton towel and it removed the dust in one pass. It then looked perfect again. It looks like it was made for my Dell CPU.

4.0 out of 5 stars this one is all about "VALUE", January 25, 2005
This review is from: Acer 19-inch LCD Flat Panel Monitor (Electronics)
it's inexpensive, so you shouldn't expect it to do great things. but the 16ms is still fast enough for fast motion scene for your dvd or the games that you play. I do notice that it doesn't display "dark" areas well. black tends to become real dark, so it's hard to see if you are watching a movie of a thief walking in the dark, it will be very hard to see him. that said, I am fine with everyhting else. I wwent from a 17" CRT to 19" LCD, and the difference is huge! referred by WhoSave.com, who knows it's probably much cheaper than what I paid for it, can't imagine what it will be like to have a 21" in a few years.

Great Monitor for the money, Its better than my old one that would heat my small home office up. The review from picky consumer"f" said the image quality was bad, maybe that person needs to see a eye doctor. Image quality is great, im glad i bought it.

This is a good value for the money, and it is a pleasure to see 19 inch monitors become affordable. This unit works very well for both wordprocessing applications, graphics, and animation/dvd applications. I use mine primarily for wordprocessing and viewing scanned TIFF documents, and it works very well for these applications. As far as definition is concerned, the viewing of scanned TIFF documents is really the acid test, because some of these scanned documents involve pretty small text. This unit handles this challenge more than satisfactorily. This monitor has a nice bright screen, good contrast and definition, and an overall pleasing-to-the-eye presentation.

The hardware is pretty basic, but not badly done. The monitor is housed in a black impact plastic casing and stand to match. The stand does not have the height and swivel capabilities that some of the other copeting monitors have. There are no speakers. This is a basic, no-frills, but very good monitor that does the job well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent monitor for the money!, August 9, 2005

When I bought this monitor I was actually looking for a 17" flat panel. However, I saw the price and the good reviews on this one, and had to give it a chance. The result? - An excellent monitor. It really has a great picture. If your into frills and gadgetry, this may not be the monitor for you, as it does not have built-in speakers or extra USB ports. If you're just looking for a really good flat panel w/out all the bells and whistles, I recommend this one!

1.0 out of 5 stars What a lemon!, December 10, 2006
This review is from: Acer 19-inch LCD Flat Panel Monitor (Electronics)
I have owned this monitor for a little over a year... actually I have owned three Acer monitors for a little over a year. I started with an Acer AL1912, and the backlight died after about 48 hours. I really should have taken the hint then, but instead I sent it to Acer for repair.

The newly repaired monitor lasted about six months... then one day the backlight was dead again! I sent it off to Acer again. This time they sent me an AL1914 since they did not make the old 1912 model anymore. From what I have seen, they are of identical quality. I did not even realize that it was a different model until about a week after I received the new one when I looked for the model number on the back. I am just waiting for the day that the backlight doesn't work anymore on this one.

When my monitor manages to turn on, I am disappointed with the image quality. It is impossible to change the brightness and contrast levels so that all of the values on a grayscale calibration strip are visible. The monitor uses the old D-Sub monitor cable, rather than the new DVI cable. Realistically, the only positive thing about this monitor is the price.

Do yourself a favor, spend twenty bucks more, and get yourself something better. I've already spent the difference on shipping my monitor in for repair.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Deal!, August 31, 2005
This review is from: Acer 19-inch LCD Flat Panel Monitor (Electronics)
I've had this monitor for about a month now. The screen is huge! I'm a college student and I thought I would invest into something that will grow with me. Who knows where LCDs will be in 2 years!? But all I can say is that for this price, you cannot go wrong. Good product backed by a flexible warranty. If you like watching movies... pull up a few chairs and be amazed!

I am not an expert at monitor technology. I know this was not the most expensive offering so I did not expect it to be the most clear and concise picture I have ever viewed. Still, it is very clear and I am quite pleased having moved up from a 17" CRT screen. I would recommend this product.

I did a long review of many 17 and 19 inches LCD. This one has the price of a 17, but it's big!
It doesn't have USB ports, or DVI input; but is a good bang for the buck in this price range.
Image quality, colors, auto config, they all are very good.
