This is actually my first laptop and I got it for a reasonable price at office Max. I would say it helped me out a lot through this passing year as far as everyday tasking goes. The only thing I wasn't aware of upon purchase, was the still web cam which doesn't record videos at all...I was so frustrated when I got home only to find out that the stupid camera only took still shots. So before buying I would advise to anyone to make sure to read up on the features if you're looking for a camera which does more. Besides that, it's been great. I haven't had any hard drive failure like these other guys...lol...maybe they're doing way too much with theirs.

I will never purchase an Acer Product. I barely purchased the notebook and the monitor created horizontal lines. Tech Support and Service were horrible to deal with in addition to not having a local repair service in Tucson, Arizona I reside with only having to mail my laptop to Texas for repair as the only choice. As a result, they told me my laptop had an alleged cracked monitor and wanted me to pay for the new monitor which was much higher to replace than what the notebook cost in the first place. I requested in writing to have my complaint elevated. However only to find for when I shipped my notebook to Texas at Acer's request only to have the notebook returned to me in Arizona without repair and without elevating my complaint. Below is the email from Acer and my email.

Out of warranty repair charge: $649.00 USD (cracked LCD)

Dear Sir or Madam,

We are writing in regards to your notebook repair for serial number: LXALF0X11075101B561601. When we received your unit, we noted that the LCD screen is cracked. This is deemed physical damage and not covered
under the standard manufacturer's warranty. In order to proceed with repairs, we will need to collect payment of $649.00 by the close of business on 9/2/08 otherwise we will ship the unit back to you non- repaired.

Please call us at 866-616-2237 to let us know how you would like to proceed.

my email: The unit was not cracked when it was sent to you. Recommendation would be to repair or replace the Acer notebook in its entirety without additional charges to me. The Business practice from Acer is to have items mailed to Texas in order for them to be repaired rather than take the notebook to an on-site facility in a local area to prevent any type of alleged mishap. I am a student and cannot be without a notebook nor can I afford a $649.00 charge on an alleged cracked LCD screen. Especially since the charge of a new screen will cost more than what the entire notebook cost in the first place from an Acer Retailer.

I bought this laptop at Staples when they had a very good sale (which matched the $550 amazon price) because it included the basics which I needed. I've had no problems at all. The wireless is working fine. It's fast, burns dvds and cds and is very convenient to use at home. I've never needed to call customer service so I can't rate Acer's performance in that domain.
