Nobody says this is Acer's top of the line 5920-6329 2.5Ghz C2Duo/Blu-RayHD DVD+/-RW/320GB/2GB RAM/NVIDIA 8600M 512MB VRAM giant killer notebook, which retails for about $1700...this is the ECONOMY model, there can you all spell that word, E C O N O M Y? It's got a 1.66Ghz C2Duo/667Mhz FSB/250GB HD/3GB RAM (!)/Intel Graphics/A,B,G,N, Wi-Fi chip (nice touch)/Acer Crystal-Bright WebCam and Mic/Windows Vista Home Premium OS, and some other nice touches like a FireWire 4-pin port for movie cameras, 4 USB 2.0 Ports, Express-Card 54 Slot, and a great 15.4" 1200x800 widescreen LCD display, that's just outstanding for 90% of people's basic computing needs. For around $800 shipped, this is a GREAT BARGAIN nice people, and I have had mine running virtually 24/7 since early January 2008 with ZERO problems to report. Acer's online and telephone support was really fantastic to work with also, when I wanted to get rid of some of the eye-candy like Norton System Works (hate that program!), which was slowing the Acer 5920 down with its invasive system and software interaction, and they helped me get RID of Norton's SystemWorks in about 5 minutes on the telephone. I then installed Trend Micro's Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware program, the best PC anti-virus program that I know of (the one they use at Best Buy on all their house computers to keep them clean and running fast), and got rid of a bunch of start-up items that slowed the CPU down also, and voila! This is a little rocket notebook computer that works fantastic for all my basic computing needs, has a great DVD+/-RW DL Toshiba optical drive to round out the package for making backups and burning DVD's RIPped with AnyDVD!Read more ›

I was surprised to see a review written by someone that doesn't even own this particular model. Ignore that bad review and listen to someone that actually has one. For the money, you cannot go wrong with this laptop. I have had it for a few months (light duty) and I am happier with it than the $2000 Sonys and HPs I have bought in the past. It travels very well and the Arcade (looks like media center) lets you watch DVDs without booting to Vista. The screen is so shiny that reflection can be a problem but the picture is sharp, deep colored and bright. The speakers aren't as full as on the high end model but still sound great.

I love how my aspire 5920 performs, especially once I installed Ubuntu in place of Vista. But it gets very VERY hot. Not "kind of hot, nice on a snowy day." My power port has actually MELTED from the heat. The frame was not built to handle the kind of power that this computer possesses. My battery tops out at just shy of an hour, and it is a constant battle to get it to accept charge. I'm looking to replace this a Mac just for the battery life and magnetic plug.

Did I mention I've only had my acer for a year?
