4.0 out of 5 stars good drive.
you know, despite what others say, this is a good little drive. I have had a 99% success rate with CD's on this thing. And for a 2X writer, it is pretty damn fast...I wouldn't play a game off of it, but still its fast. It may not be the best, but it is far from the worst.

1.0 out of 5 stars DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY
I brought mine in January and have only been able to burn a total of six CD's. My CDRW has ruined over 20 CD's. The technecial support people are of no help. Acer sent me a new CDRW and I"m still having the same problems. It will write once in a blue moon, it locks up my system, It will test fine but when you go to do the real deal it just sits there or it will do...

Acer sent me a new CDRW and I"m still having the same problems. I recommend that you do not buy this rewriter.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Value, October 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Acer 6206A CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
Installation was a breeze, I set it as a slave on IDE channel 2 with my CDROM as master. A little slow, and I wouldn't have bought it without the rebate. The Adaptec CD Creator software is a bit twitchy, you should disable Auto Insert Notification on your CDROM to eliminate possible problems. Overall, it's a great value for an entry level CD-RW unit, but I'll buy a faster unit in a little while.

2.0 out of 5 stars It's fine for music - Bad for big data, October 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Acer 6206A CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
I used my Acer for a CD production & came out ok. Levels are a bit wonky, though. I tried to back up the audio data files & have been working with tech support for 6 months. Getting no where. They aren't much help. I'd pay more & get something that works much better.

4.0 out of 5 stars ACER 6206 CD-RW Drive, October 19, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Acer 6206A CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
This drive is slow by today's standards, but it is a solid piece of gear. I found that it was auto-detected by Windows versions from Win95a through Windows XP. It is NOT on the WinXP HCL, but it worked properly the first time without any problem. Mine has outlasted 2 system boards and is working on its 6th version of Windows. The firmware is easily upgraded with Internet available tools.
One caveat; it has no buffer under-run protection, so you would be forced to suspend all other activities while burning your cd. I thinki t is a bit pricey.

It worked great for 3 days then wouldnt burn anymore cd's. It caused my regular cd-rom to stop working also. I've installed it on a few computeres to see if it wasnt just mine, and it did the same to the rest

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Buy! Much capability for the money., August 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Acer 6206A CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
Bought this CD ReWriter after using an identical one on my brother-in-law's computer. It meets all of my expectations. I've already used it to:

(1) Make a disaster recovery boot disk for my Compaq laptop -- holds all my important programs and data files.

(2) Make backup CDs of my most important software.

(3) Backup the hard drive on my Dell Tower.

(4) Make a "formatted" floppy emulator CD that can be written and read by most Windows 95 programs.

(5) Combine some of my favorite music onto a single audio CD.

The furnished Adaptec software is excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent performance and compatibility,Pick for a New User, July 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Acer 6206A CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
I bought these drive more than a year ago and it has worked perfectly on the last two PC I had. I connected it, as a Master drive and with another 32X CD rom, also from Acer, I have made tons of successfully copies on the fly, back ups of hard drives and so. Includes the easy to use software around. This drive is an excellent pick for a new user

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Drive, July 15, 1999
By A Customer

This is a really good drive. Runs solid and reliable. The only gripe I have is that Win98 does not seem to recognize the digital audio output jack. Don't know if it's the same for others.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Acer CRW 6206A is a winner!, July 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Acer 6206A CD-RW Drive (Personal Computers)
If you want a good, quality drive with great supporting software, the CRW 6206A is the one to get! I originally bought this drive to do only data backups to CD-RW, but it's been so versatile and easy to use, I've used it much more than I originally thought.

Installation was a breeze. (If you've never installed a HD or CD drive before, you'll want to go slow, but it's easy. ...Really.) While the printed documentation isn't what I'd call exhaustive, when combined with the online help screens, there is no lack of support. As for performance... Okay, maybe it's not a real "screamer" when it comes to speed, but it gets the job done with ease. In short, if your need for a CD-R/RW drive is personal rather than commercial, you just can't find a better value!
