While my model number is -1428 versus 1482, I'm guessing there's not much difference.

The first thing I did was a backup to an external hard drive and then started taking off the junkware. There's not that much so it didn't take too much time.
After installing my favorite programs, I'm amazed at how speedy this little netbook is.

The screen is sharp and easy to view.
I was comparing this to the Asus 1015PE and I'm happy with this model.
It has a faster processor, the N570, and a large 250 gb drive.

I can watch 720p video fine and even Netflix is not that bad - not perfect, but pretty good. If I add another gb of memory it might help.

The only aggravating thing is getting used to this smaller keyboard, but then what do you expect with a small netbook.

I'm still not sure why people don't like Windows Starter - it seems to do everything I need it to.

The touch pad has a nice feel and is easy to use. I did however attach my logitech wireless mouse and it works great.

I also added a 4 GB SD card, $10.00, and set it up to be used as extra memory - that's a nice feature of Win7. I did a test - I have Photoshop 6 on the Netbook and it boots faster than my i7 Desktop - ok it's running CS3, but still it runs great. Hopefully this will keep me from trying to install a 2GB memory chip.

I'm impressed.

It is well built and runs very well. I upgraded to Win7 Home Premium and after research replaced the RAM with a 2GB card. (That was a job, be very careful. Have someone else who knows how to do it if you feel you cannot, you have to remove the keyboard to enter the interior of the device, scary stuff. If you don't intend to upgrade the OS don't bother upgrading the RAM. Win7 Starter will only see the 1GB memory). Remove the bloat, there isn't very much. The sound is lousy so headphones and a decent external speaker setup is a necessity.
Streaming video or audio works very well as I see it. I am looking forward to seeing VZW 4GLTE in my area to see how well the Verizon mobile hotspot works with my "Smartphone".
I find this computer a viable "old laptop" replacement. It is very light and the battery will last longer than a larger laptop. 15 inch laptops seem to be the industry standard. For 1 1/2 times the price you can have a faster CPU with win7 home premium, 4 GB RAM and a DVD burner; in a larger package of course.
I am enjoying this netbook, I never thought I would buy a netbook but I needed a replacement for an old laptop and wanted a small unit. I own 4 Windows PCs 2 of them dual booting Ubuntu. I also own iPad2 64 gb and an iPod Touch 64 Gb, both fun toys, but toys none the less.

I'm an amateur photographer and I was looking for something to store my photos on while I was on vacation or just didn't want to boot up my massive tower computer. After several headaches thinking about tablet computers, I decided that they were far too expensive compared to netbooks. After looking around for a while, I found this one and researched it. It has a dual core processer, a very fast 5400 rpm SATA 'spinner' hard disk, and a single gig of RAM. Five days and $269 later, it arrived, packed very securely in three boxes surrounded by air bags and styrofoam.

In general:

This netbook feels very sturdy and lightweight. I can easily hold it in one hand for a while without discomfort. As compared to some tablets and such, the dual core processer seems a little slow when streaming video or playing games, but I can't complain. All of the components that I needed on here work perfectly, and aside from the USB ports being a little tight, it's great for anyone with light needs. The card reader is very fast. In the way of graphics, it's not that strong (The graphics card is only 64 MB) but it's good for little Linux games and game websites (i.e. Mindjolt.) On occasion, this netbook gets a little hot because the fan outlet is in a funny place, but it stays pretty quiet most of the time. I have to set it off-center on my lap because the fan cooling vent is placed directly on the bottom left side. After about a day of use, I installed Ubuntu 11.04 on it, and it's worked pretty well ever since. however, you will lose about an hour of battery life because the OS doesn't know how to use the hardware efficiently.

I like the Acer netbook very much but I couldn't use it immediately because the adapter clip was missing. The netbook is useless without the charger clip.
