I've owned many laptops over the years, but this one is definitely my top favorite. I had a netbook that I carried around with me all the time before purchasing this because it was small enough to fit in my purse and it did everything I wanted it to do while I was traveling. Then, I decided that I wanted a laptop with some power that allowed me to work with power hungry programs while allowing me to play games that required some decent specs. And I didn't want to have to spend a small fortune to get what I wanted.
At first, I thought about looking at just gaming laptops. I knew if they could play powerful games, they would also be able to handle whatever demanding software I would install on it. I went to the typical sources (Alienware, Sager, etc.), but in the end, they all wanted much more than I was willing to pay, especially after customizing. I'm not sure how I found this laptop. I think I was browsing either eBay or Newegg when I saw this one. Most, if not all, the reviews praised it, and I liked the specs. So, I bought it. Best purchase ever.
It was bigger than I thought it would be, but I think I thought that only because I'd gotten used to carrying around a small netbook. It didn't take me long to readjust to carrying something bigger. Also, I liked that this has a full keyboard with a numerical pad on the side. And so far, it's handled everything that I've thrown at it with ease. I play City of Heroes on this machine with the Ultra settings pretty high with no trouble. It also runs The Sims 3 smoothly. I haven't tried any other high demand games on it yet, but those are the main two I wanted to be able to run. Needless to say, it runs my non-gaming software like a champ. It also manages its heat pretty well without being loud, but I still use a Targus cooler with it. That combination works so well together that I'm not paranoid that I'm overheating my laptop even when gaming.
Of course, a few things can be pointed out:
This doesn't have a Blu-ray drive or have Bluetooth, but neither of these were a big enough factor to make me deduct a star since I already have an plug-in USB Bluetooth dongle, and it wouldn't be a problem to buy portable Blu-ray player, if I'm that hard up for it. I wish there were some dedicated keys for some functions rather than having to use Fn+[key], but again, not a huge hassle to me. There are times when the screen seems to be not clear--or rather, kinda grainy, but this isn't super annoying to me. It doesn't happen all the time, and it seems to have more to do with my screen's angle at the time. The battery life is short. I think it lasts only two hours. Also, this laptop doesn't ship with recovery disks, but you are prompted to make a copy by the system, which I would recommend.
This is definitely a great laptop to consider if you're looking for power without having to sacrifice a lot of money.

I purchased this computer solely because of the graphics card. I didn't know what to expect when it came to the looks, cpu speed, build quality, ect...
I had an Acer computer in the past, and I always had great experiences with Acer's products and service.
Pro's:
-The graphics card is amazing, I can run Crysis on high and many other games on high with no lag. I love AMD/ATI graphics vs the Nvidia graphics and I am stunned at the quality of the graphics card in this "budget" laptop.
-The finish of the laptop is great, it has a checkered type, anti-scratch, anti fingerprint surface...It's great.
-Don't let people tell you the dual-core amd CPU is bad, because it isn't, it runs great and it may not be as fast as the Intel core i5/i7 but its good enough at handling everything i have thrown at it.
-THE PRICE...!!!
-The screen is bright and beautiful
-10 key, the keyboard is nice and responsive.
-laptop is very quiet even while playing games and it does a good job at cooling itself down.
Con's:
-The laptop doesnt have all the bells and whistles you may need. Bluetooth, Blu-ray, 7200 rpm hdd, fingerprint reader, usb 3.0, great speakers.
-The viewing angle of the screen has to be just right or you will notice blurriness.
-some bloatware, but not much!!! (kind of a pro!)
The 2 biggest con's I have about the laptop:
1) There is no access to the CPU/heat sink/fan. I always like to take those apart and apply some artic silver and clean then once a month, but to access those, you literally have to spend hours and take the ENTIRE computer apart. I am used to having rear access to the CPU/heat sink/fan with my other Acer.
2) The laptop dropped by 50 bucks in price within a week of me buying it, and i really wish AMAZON had some sort of price-match guarantee on stuff other than their tv's. Not really a con of the laptop and im not going to blast amazon either, because I love them, they are awesome...but im just bummed they wont price-match.
FINAL THOUGHTS:
I cant comment on the touch pad, because i use a mouse and I can say that if you want a good gaming laptop to run most games on medium/high then GET THIS ONE!!!

I have had 2 laptops so far both being asus brands and also both being intel and nvidia setups.this is my third laptop and my first acer and also my first amd and ati setup.i am completely blown away by this in terms of build quality and internal specs.the screen is fantasic and the color of the laptop has a very nice non-glossy black finish to it and its very light.The phenom II dualcore runs equivalent to a low powered core i3 processor.The ati 6650m is a monster video card and the best performance card i have experienced(future driver updates will only make it better).
I have tested and benchmarked several games such as battlefield bad company 2(my personal favorite)Everything High,Max Resolution,no hboa,no v-sync,4x AA,1xAF,28-38 fps,without AA 40-50 fps.Note:Everygame fluctuates wildly in fps hence the future drivers to improve performance and stability.Team Fortress 2 Max Everything,60-110 fps.Portal(similar i guess),crysis everything maxed in dx9(forced very high on everything by parameter changes)max resolution,no aa 35+ i believe(it was very smooth)crysis 2 multiplayer demo was smooth too.didnt notice to much graphical difference between advanced and hardcore but whatever.Surprisingly going from a 7200rpm to 5400rpm hard drive didnt make much a difference for me.the 500gb hard drive is great its actually 450 max but we all know we dont get every bit of what the label says.little bloatware a big plus kept some of the programs they were quite useful.wifi is top notch.great job acer i now have 2 favorite brands.get this laptop you wont regret it.
