My first impressions are that even though its a plastic case, its sturdy and seems like it will withstand the abuse of being carried around in a backpack 5 days a week. I love the keyboard, and having a 10 key number pad on board is a big plus. Laptop boots up in about a minute maybe a little less. Web browsing is quick and responsive, watching videos on Hulu and Netflix in HD is great. Speakers are loud, not the greatest, but better then any other laptop I've owned. I don't play many games on computers, but I was able to play Fable at max settings, and WOW on medium settings with no issues at all. The Multi-Gesture touchpad works well. I manage to spend about 3 hours typing a few essays, connected to the internet while listing to music all on battery before I started this review and the battery is at 40% with almost 2 hours remaining.
The only cons I can find is the load of bloatware that comes on this baby. Also, the screen is bright, looks sharp, but colors looks a little washed out, but still crisp and clear enough for me to be satisfied. And if I really had to be picky, the lack of caps/num lock light is slightly annoying, and the cd drive button can be a little stubborn. None of these issues are enough to make me dock of a star.
I would strongly recommend this laptop for anyone looking for a good mid-range computer, capable of playing some games, multimedia tasks, and web browsing. I'll up date this review as time goes on
So I've had the As5560-Sb256 for a month now. I can say without a doubt I have no regrets buying this laptop.Read more ›
Out of the box the screen looks bad and the track pad blows. I was worried but adjusting the settings of each made a dramatic difference. Make sure you look for those settings and change to your liking. I have seen some complaints about the lcd and trackpads and I suspect the user didn't know how to adjust them.
Getting a laptop is a trade off with every option. This choice wins with the screen, performance and price. The downside is the keyboard and trackpad aren't wonderful. I'm pretty picky, so I grade the laptop like this:
Screen- 4 stars- I'm rather picky about lcd's- this one looks pretty good to me and the viewing angles are better than most.
Performance- 5 stars- Seems very nice- I don't play games so I can't help you there- but it is definitely snappy with general use.
keyboard- 2.5 stars- I don't like most though- I prefer Thinkpads, or the chicklet style on macs or the Timelinex Acer model.
Trackpad- 3 stars- A little unsure about this- It may be a case of getting use to it.Read more ›
The only problems I had: the keyboard and the trackpad. The keys are flat. Completely. (Except for tiny bars on the F and J for touch-typists like me.) It's seriously easy to press two or more keys at once. Multiple Sclerosis makes my fingers kind of numb, and even though I can still touch-type on systems with slightly cupped keys, I can't feel the placement of the flat ones. I'm a writer, so I need a keyboard that doesn't hinder me like this one did. The other issue, for pretty much the same reason, is the trackpad, particularly the single button. It's a rocker, so if you press the right side of the button it's the right-click. If you press the middle, or close, nothing happens. Were my dexterity slightly better, that would be fine, but even Web surfing was a minor pain when I'd click a link and nothing would happen because my thumb was a millimeter or two away from where it should have been.
For most users, I think this would be an excellent computer. The speed was impressive, it's attractive and light, and it feels solid enough (physically and technically). Had it a keyboard better suited to my needs, I'd have kept this system for years.
