5.0 out of 5 stars Wow - A new TOP DOG!
I've always been an Acer fan, but last Christmas, they couldn't compete with the 10" MSI's (U100's). I bought 6 of the MSI netbooks and set them up for friends and family. They are still a very nice netbook. But this new 11.6" Acer is NICE! I don't detect any lack of speed compared to the MSI. The keyboard is nicer and bigger and the trackpad works well (although the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Portable, not powerful
I acquired this little machine for its light weight and compact dimensions---and it has not disappointed. Easily transported and stowed, it's a great device for the traveler. The 11.6 inch screen is very sharp but I would not spend hours in front of it working with spreadsheets or fine graphics. This Acer runs all Microsoft Office applications, albeit slowly and sometimes...

The keyboard is nicer and bigger and the trackpad works well (although the Logitech Nano Mouse is the only way to go). This one comes with XP, which is no-brainer. (sorry, but Vista doesn't belong on netbooks). There's a LOT of unnecessary software that loads at startup (probably the reason for the speed complaints, besides Vista). so you'll want to spend some time removing it. Battery life looks really good, after charging it reports 8+ hours remaining, although after about 1/2 hour, it then shows 6 hours.

PROS:
-Very nice display 1366 x 768 res (sweet)
-6 cell battery sticks out the back so the thin profile is maintained
-Still actually squeezes into my 10" neoprene sleeve/case
-Nice and thin but shiny surface shows fingerprints (just like MSI)

CONS:
-Single ram slot is occupied by 1 Gig stick, but specs indicate that is max?? (Vista versions ship with 2 Gig)
-Display is very glossy, I kinda prefer the matt finish like MSI.
-Extreme amount of bloatware. Use MSCONFIG to disable all the startup crap.

This review is from: Acer Aspire One AO751h-1192 11.6-Inch Blue Netbook - 7 Hour Battery Life (Personal Computers)
Im typing my Review on my new Acer AO751h. The 11.6" High Def Screen is FANTASTIC. Big, Bright, PERFECT. Keyboard is FAST and quiet. Construction feels very solid, no creaks or bending. My desktop is a 2.16 Ghz
Core Duo with an ASUS SLI Motherboard, and frankly Im amazed how well this little single core holds its own in comparison. The fact is, if you are doing heavy PROCESSING jobs like Gaming or Video editing, heck yeah a 1.22 Ghz wont cut it. If you are low on cash and want a full fledged all purpose LAPTOP computer, this aint it. You will be Hatin' it! But for Web Surfing, Music, YouTube, e-mail etc, I find it to be WAY FAST ENOUGH. And compared to OTHER NETBOOKS, and I've BEEN shopping them all, this IS the one with all the goodies for the price. Personally, XP, 2gig Ram (I replaced the 1 gig with a 2 gig stick from Amazon for like, $28 ) the Great Keyboard, and the Fab 16 x 9 High Def Screen puts this one ahead of all the others. Absolutely no other complaints, except, oh yes, it IS a fingerprint magnet, BIG WHOOP! Happy Surfing!!

The 11.6 inch screen is very sharp but I would not spend hours in front of it working with spreadsheets or fine graphics. This Acer runs all Microsoft Office applications, albeit slowly and sometimes haltingly--other reviewers have mentioned freezes, which I have experienced, too. I use this economical laptop as a back-up device to my home desktop and it fills that role well, but no more than that. Hard to beat it for the price!

1.0 out of 5 stars Freeze kills it, September 26, 2009
This review is from: Acer Aspire One AO751h-1192 11.6-Inch Blue Netbook - 7 Hour Battery Life (Personal Computers)
This looked like a really nice machine in the shop and using it suggests it could be great. However my machine suffers like so many others with the deadly freeze. This makes VOIP impossible and scrolling can only be done at your own risk. As these two tasks are vital to me the machine is almost useless. Anyone wishing to purchase it should first read the thread on the Aspireusers site which goes into 20 pages without a solution. Acer seem unable to provide a fix, (I'm currently waiting on a reply). Had I read the thread I would have steered clear and now regret the purchase very much.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great little netbook, August 16, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Acer Aspire One AO751h-1192 11.6-Inch Blue Netbook - 7 Hour Battery Life (Personal Computers)
I'm updating my review. I downloaded a movie from [...] and using their player, the movie plays great - a crip, clear picture and perfectly smooth. Absolutely no jumping or skipping at all. It's just like watching a good DVD. So I guess the player has more to do with video perfomance than I originally thought. I'm upgrading my rating to 4 stars. My only issue now is the touchpad. It's way too sensitive. It's much too easy to click when all you mean to do is move the cursor. I may have to get a usb mouse.
Following is the original review -

The screen on this is great. It's just the right size for easy travel, which is why I bought it. But the processor is very slow, and so is the graphics card. I bought it so I could use wifi when I travel, get to my emails and also watch movies on planes. It's fine for browsing and emails and writing notes, etc. Mine came with XP installed. Even with XP, video is very choppy. I watched "Vanilla Sky", and Tom Cruise jumped around more than he did on the Oprah couch! Videos are watchable, as long as the chopiness doesn't get to you too much. I can watch it; my nephew can't. I would imagine that if I had Vista on this, video would be totally unwatchable. From what I've read, this is about par for Netbooks; none of them really do videos well. It takes about 78 seconds to start up, after I deleted all the junkware on it and got all the unnecessary applications out of Startup. There is a new Lenovo coming out soon with an NVidia graphics card that supposedly will play as well as a desktop pc. It's a 12 inch display - still not too big for a netbook (we want these things to be small enough to easily transport). I don't know when that will be out, and I wanted a netbook right away. There are other netbooks with longer battery life too (I got the six cell battery and get about 7 hours). If video is important to you, wait for the Lenovo to come out. Otherwise this isn't a bad netbook.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but not a great update returned not worth my time, August 30, 2009

This review is from: Acer Aspire One AO751h-1192 11.6-Inch Blue Netbook - 7 Hour Battery Life (Personal Computers)
I purchased the acer because it had the largest screen and was priced below most of the others. I am glad that windows xp was installed and not vista since this computer has problems with simple tasks like browsing the Internet Xp consumes less of the netbooks resources compared to vista. I believe the problem with Internet speed and the computer freezing up which I experince about once a day lays in the Intel Atoms design the atom is a single core compared to the dual core intel i have in my notebook which enables a computer to function with less problems. I will be upgrading to a two gb 800mhz stick of ram to see if this helps. All in all I am pleased with the computers design it just gets annoying when you are trying to do things and the netbook freezes up.
Sept 27th 09 I just wanted to update that I returned this netbook and made the decision to stay away from netbooks altogether. Like I wrote it was just freezing to much, if you need it for microsoft office its not bad, but what frustrated me the most was the constant freezing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful Netbook, October 21, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Acer Aspire One AO751h-1192 11.6-Inch Blue Netbook - 7 Hour Battery Life (Personal Computers)
Very useful netbook:
11.6" screen with crisp images -- large enough for me to use with my students without them needing to "look over my shoulder".
TouchPad is cumbersome and awkward; I ended up buying an inexpensive USB mouse.
More cost effective to rent an aircard (for a few days now and then when internet access is unavailable)
rather than buying an incredibly expensive plan (e.g., for upwards to $960 for the "standard 2 year commitment").

I will keep this short.

It is an awesome little computer at a great price EXCEPT for two things:

1) SOME OF THEM ARE LEMONS and randomly lock up when you are using them.
and
2) ACER has conveniently setup a corporate bureaucratic obstacle course to keep you from returning the LEMONS.

* You will waste hours of your time trying to fix the problem.
* Then they will waste your money AND time by having you ship it back so they can reformat it and ship it back to you just like you got it before. (You do get to choose how much time vs. money you get to waste on shipping costs as you are paying half of them yourself)
* Then they will waste your time again as they send you back through the obstacle course.
* Repeat ad nauseum or BUST.

It does a a good job. It is a little slower than I thought it would be, but not awful.

edit 7/22/10:

Still going strong. Battery life is still good @ 6 to 7 hours of casual surfing
