Got it from Wal Mart for 298 $. This is a great netbook
pros - After uninstalling Google Toolbar and McAfee and other useless software came with the netbook, it is really fast. 1 GB is enough, if you do that cleanup. - Thinner than D150 model, very light weight. - keyboard is small still usable cons - touchpad isn't that good, gesture for scroll doesn't work always. - screen is glossy, but usable. I prefer glossy screen, some people won't like it.

I've read about this computer on several websites. Amazon.com had the best price. I bought this thing on June 17. By mid-July the screen started to flicker and then died. I troubleshooted this problem by plugging it into my TV proving that it was the LCD screen that had died in less than 1 month. I used my warranty and I had to pay to send it to their service center in Texas. When I got the computer back the screen flickered the same day I got it, so I sent it back to them. The second time I got the computer back the left side hinge for the LCD screen was broken and obviously gouged with a screw driver and it was missing one of the rubber legs on the bottom, so I sent it in again....... I got it back today. Having owned this computer for just over 4 months, only being able to use if for roughly 2 months, they repaired the hinge and replaced the rubber leg with a SMALLER ONE. Now it does not even sit balanced. Very disappointed in Acer. This is my FORTH Acer computer since 1998 and am very disappointed not only in this computer but their repair service. I hope all my writing here helps someone.

Got this as a present for my birthday, fantastic little netbook. Packed with Bloat-ware though (one of the reasons I rated 4 stars) xp is great out of the box for checking emails, going on Myspace/Facebook, googleing your ex girlfriend... (stalker status!) After about 2 weeks of use, just because of the bloat-ware, and some other features it had to offer, I decided to install Windows 7. It runs spectacularly,
The battery from the factory leaves something to be desired as it only last 2 hours on a good day. But with the 6 cell battery I get about 4 hours. What good is a netbook you can take anywhere if you can't take it anywhere without a charger? The screen on the acer is magnificent, crystal clear, amazing colors, and its bright and beautiful. The webcam is okay but if you take pictures for Myspace on it or craigslist, you may be dissapointed. It's color is a bit dull, and the pictures are not the best but in all honesty I rarely use it anyway. While the keyboard is smaller when moving from another laptop its not a hugely noticeable difference, I can still type without mistakes (other than my poor typing skills on any computer) and the best feature that was the nail in the coffin, was the touchpad. I would never been able to use the hp mini's or some of the msi wind's because of there retarded touchpad having the left and right buttons on the left and right side. All in all a very solid netbook, and If I could buy another I would definately do it. Beautiful in design, Light in weight, Awesome functionality, and incredible speed.

Terrific product. For traveling, its size & weight is perfect. It has sufficient ram & disk size for my (non-gaming) needs, which is Internet use, taking notes in libraries, & writing. Character fonts are extremely sharp, & I'm pleased at the variable screen brightness controls, so that I can use it in dark interiors and outside on sunny days. I'm 100% satisfied.

This model is fairly new. So it has the usual features, i.e. built in wi-fi, camera, 160 GB drive, etc, etc. This is the 3 hr battery model. I have no idea where Amazon gets their tech specs. We just bought this and the manual states that it comes with 1 GB of RAM, and is upgradeable to 2 GB. It recognized 4 wireless connections in my area the instant it was powered on. So far it's great for what it was bought for, the internet, small low demand games, music, simple word processing...

This may be called a mini, but with the 10" screen,it is larger than other minis I have.I use it for almost everything. It is very easy to use & it is
also an attracive looking computer.Easy to travel with A couple of things I am not crazy about with this computer are the sound; doesn't go high enough for me & @ nite the screen isn't really bright.I have to use a little clip on lite.I get these @ the $ store. I am otherwise happy with this computer.I have a small external HD that I use with it.It's easy to start, loads quickly...overall,it's the best mini I have.BTW...the battery can last up to 4hrs,which is Awesome...

I spent a lot of time comparison shopping, especially between this computer and the HP with similiar specs. A lot of the comparison reviews rated this computer lower, saying the Acer keyboard is too small, but I have not found this to be the case. I do not have small (female)hands, and I have not had a problem adjusting to the smaller board. I went to Best Buy to put my hands on the HP keyboard and while I was there I compared the feel with other netbooks there with smaller boards, and I didn't see a big difference.
This computer is FAST and so light. I love it. When I first took it out of the box, I wasn't sure how to tell if the Wi-fi switch was on or off--the switch doesn't lock, and the signal at my house is very weak--but I figured it out when I got to the coffee shop where there is a good signal. I have not had any problems with this computer. I loaded Word on it a couple of days ago, and it is working great. The display is not as good as a full-size laptop. Sometimes it is a little dark, and this might bother someone who is looking for an excellent display--maybe someone who uses it for games or movies or something like that. Obviously, based on my previous statements about this computer, I don't mind the occasional darkness. The display is great for my purposes--word processing, internet work, email.

Beyond Expectations,

I have been looking at a netbook for a couple of years but just wasn't sure it was what I wanted. I decided to sell my mac and started looking again for a smaller laptop. My husband talked me out of it saying that my HP was fine and I didn't need it. Well to my surprise two days later a netbook arrived in the mail. Happy Birthday!
I love this netbook (I have the pink one). First thing I did when I pulled it out of the box was install a 2GB stick of RAM. Then I wiped the hard drive clean and did a dual boot with XP and Vista. (Don't forget to make your recovery discs!!) Getting the hard drive formatted took some hard work, and I had to use a linux install disk to get it wiped clean. But now it runs beautifully! It runs Vista really well and doesn't make it hot or over work at all. I've really not used the XP size but imagine it runs smoother than Vista. I love everything about it. I have no complaints. I will be looking for a 6 cell battery to give me some more life. I think you just have to realize that you can be just as rough with these netbooks as an actual laptop. Note: If you change the paritions and then try to use the recovery disks it will not work. The recovery disks are made to read the harddrive the way it was when factory install. I spent three days getting my netbook back up and running. I'd just stay away from the recovery disks all together. I'm now running Windows 7 and love it!

dies in 6 months,
By Jo "Bookish" (Boston MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Acer Aspire One AOD250-1116 10.1-Inch Red Netbook - 3+ Hour Battery Life (Personal Computers)
I have purchased 3 Acer Netbooks. When the hard drive on the first one died in six months, I thought it was just a fluke. Now, number 2 is on the same death trajectory. It starts with the hard drive initially emitting a loud death rattle, which in turn becomes a steady humming. Then it either cannot make a network connection or becomes so slow one thinks one is still on dial up. The price is dandy and they sure are cute, but disposable cameras have a longer life span. Invest in something a little more expensive until you find it exciting to buy a new computer every six months.

Wouldn't boot up right out of the box. Then the
FedEx number provided to return for repair incorrect. Hassles have just started. Very unhappy to say the least. |
