I purchased this Netbook at Costco for $299.99 about three weeks ago. I was quite surprised to see it had an Atom N570 dual core CPU as that CPU was just introduced on the market just days before we saw it at Costco. The other note worthy aspect about it was that it came with a two year warranty and an additional year if you purchased it with the Costco American Express card which made it a three year warranty! The CPU and warranty is what sold us on this Netbook. The rest of this Netbook is fairly standard, 1 GB of RAM, Windows 7 Starter, 1.3 MP camera, Intel graphics card and chipset, etc. I purchased a 2 GB memory upgrade right away and then upgraded the OS to Windows 7 Enterprise which made the Netbook much more usable. The memory upgrade is not easy as you have to remove the keyboard in order to push out the back plate to get to the memory slot. There were no instructions on how to do this, only some videos on YouTube that were marginally helpful. I'm not an engineer but I have to think there had to be a reasonably easy way of making a small access door on the back of the Netbook to get to the memory slot. The DDR3 DIMM cost about $25 and was worth the effort to install as it did make a very noticeable difference in performance. Installing the full version of Windows 7 would not have been realistic without adding memory. We were then able to install Office 2010 which again made it much more functional.

I did not give this Netbook five stars because it lacks bluetooth, an HDMI port, USB 3.0 and a decent graphics card that could take advantage of the dual core CPU. I was going to get the Asus 1015PN which did have all these features but in the end I could not resist the three year warranty.

The Acer Aspire One is just the computer for the person who needs to be able to manipulate Word docs and spreadsheets while on the road. While the small screen size and tight keyboard make it less than optimal, its size more than makes up for lugging a heavy laptop. This is especially true when trying to use it on board a flight with the tight seating rows. Battery life is also much better than many other computers of the same size. As I noted before, the keyboard is tight, but if you're not a touch typist (yep, there are still some hunt and peck pluggers out there) it actually increases your speed because you don't have to move your fingers so far.
