When I initially saw that Office Depot is carrying this laptop for a dirt cheap price of 369.99, against my better judgment and further research I went ahead and bought it. So the good aspects first, nice high contrast wide screen, comes with windows 7, huge hard drive 350 gigs and 3 gigs of ram is also a big plus. Now the bad, you would think that with 3 gigs of ram it would fly like a rocket right ? Wrong, first of all it is an AMD SINGLE CORE processor, so if you are looking for a super fast laptop this would NOT be it. Also because of the wide screen display the laptop is very bulky and a bit on a heavy side. In case you are wondering if the 64 bit is a plus, in my personal opinion it is not, a lot of application don't yet support 64 bit, or to better phrase it, if you have some older versions of your apps of choice they may not be compatible with 64 bit. It comes with only a 30 day trial of MS Office, so you will need to purchase a license at the end of the 30 day trial.
So bottom line, it is an OK machine but don't expect to be blown away by a screamingly fast performance and keep in mind the 64 compatibility issues that may come up with old apps.
What do ya want for [...] bucks? great display, bad speakers, no webcam, but other than that....3 gig ram....nice...processor is just fine. don't listen to the other guy. MS office never comes with computers unless you buy it from MS. Just use MS works that comes for free if you can't afford office. Nice little laptop...I just went over the whole laptop in detail and i run an internet company. If you can find one and you can't afford [...] bucks....buy this now...Mike

Pros: Very well built, Numeric keypad (big plus if you are use to desktop keyboard), Bright HD Widescreen, Dual-layer DVD burner, 5-in-1 Multi-card reader, 64-bit OS (Windows 7 Home Premium - full version), extremely easy to set-up, lightweight, 250Gb SATA HDD
Cons: only 2 USB ports, no Firewire port or dual-purpose port, no external volume control, battery life (about 2-hrs depending on what you are using it for), Single-core 1.6ghz processor, Built-in speakers are poor quality/low sound/metallic overtones (sounds great with external speakers or headphones).
NOTE: In defense of the computer, most of the CONS/"wants" I will list below are things I would expect on a laptop of higher price, but any of them would be appreciated on this computer!
Additional CONS/"wants": Bluetooth, Lite-scribe on DVD burner, RAM only upgrades to 4gb (half what it should with 64-bit OS), Web-cam and/or built-in microphone (even my Acer Atom-450 Netbook has a web-cam and microphone)...
Another well built product from Acer. I own several laptop computers from Dell, HP, Toshiba, Compaq, and Acer... but this one is more functional for daily use than my high-end units. The HD screen is bright and clear, the keyboard has a numeric keypad (always a plus), and the quality of the materials in the overall build is as good as my $1200, high-end HP!
The installed software is not over-kill like other manufacturers... it is just what you need to get started - The few trial offers can be removed or purchased... not hundreds of "bloatware" titles installed like HP/Dell/Compaq/Gateway/Toshiba/etc. I recommend removing the installed anti-virus and some of the other "security" installed by Acer.Read more ›
