I usually don't take the time to write reviews, but this one is worth it! I bought this laptop about 3 weeks ago for $250 after my 4 year old Toshiba laptop died. I was like another reviewer and thought I'd just try it out and figured I'd be returning it within days. I was happily proven wrong! It's a great compact size and it fits in my lap perfectly. It took a few days to get used to the smaller screen, but now I love it. I actually used my friend's full size laptop yesterday and it seemed huge to me! Battery time has been phenomenal, I've been getting close to 6 hours per charge and that incudes streaming videos. It has an HDMI port which my old laptop didn't have and even a lot of new ones don't have. I used it to hook up and watch a movie on my TV with no problems! The only drawback to this computer is that it has no CDRW/DVDRW drive. I knew that when I purchased it and to be honest, I really didn't use my old one over the last year or two. I figured I can always get an external drive if I decide I need one. I really can't believe how happy I've been with this laptop, I would certainly purchase it again if I had to do it over, and I recommend it to others as well!!

I received this product shortly after black friday, and had it in my possession for a week or so. That is, until a nice cluster of dead pixels in the very center of my screen forced me to send it in for repair (December 4th), which was paid both ways by Acer and was fairly a minimum hassle. I received it back on December 20th, and everything looked great, however the service order sheet they gave me states that the HDD was "no booting" and they had replaced it with another 500gb HDD. Much to my dismay, when I checked disk management it was 298 GB, or a 320gb HDD. Outraged, I contacted customer support, only to be told I had to call back the next day when a Level 2 support technician could assist me.
When I called back I had to jump through the hoops of the previous day all over again just to be forwarded to said Level 2 technician. (The first support person was from an India call center, the second level was definitely American.) "We're sorry, we cannot do a hard drive replacement and you have to ship it to us for re-repair" she said, "Another 3 weeks wait? Are you entirely serious?" I reply...lets just say oh yes, she was serious. Without citing reason for refusing to send me a replacement harddrive they demanded I return the product once again, on their bill. After owning it for a week and having it in repair for 3, they ask me to send it in for another 3 weeks? During the busiest shipping time of the year, 4 weeks maybe? So I informed the support person they could help me with absolutely nothing, after over an hour of dealing with support I ended up being so frustrated I had to give up and accept the 180 GB loss. (Not to mention the HDD they returned to me was FULL of BLoatware, out the wazoo. The original HDD had none of this at all) Talk about adding insult to injury. Never again will I buy from Acer. This netbook is an amazing piece of hardware, its specs far outdid its competitors at the same price range and I love it. Acer itself however, can burn.

Verified Purchase
I'm a MAC fan and my work lap top is the new MAC BOOK PRO - Quad-core Intel Core i7, 8 gig ram, superpower machine. I'm computer administrator and web designer.
The reason I bought this laptop was to be able to be familiar with WIN 7 and check my websites with IE 6, 7 , 8 and 9. I had to update to WIN 7 pro and get the free Windows XP Mode.
I'm not a PC fan at all but this notebook changed my opinion! big time! It's amazing! 4GB Ram and 500GB HD, it is fast!!! I changed few things on the configuration and now boots in 15 seconds. Runs HD videos on youtube like pro. My MAC BOOK PRO is not happy with me :)
The keyboard is great, the screen resolution is perfect for a small screen, really sharp!
The only thing that I wish it was better the webcam. Video Calls on skype is not sharp, I tried different settings and still not good. I ordered today the Logitech HD Pro Webcam C910. It has a great reviews, let's see...

I really like this machine and I'm glad I bought it. The Place I bought it (mskahnenterprises)they did a great job on delivery and packing the notebook. 100%!!!

I gave 4 stars because the webcam resolution and Skype video calls quality.

Thanks!

I was very skeptical buying a netbook thinking that it would be limiting. However, learned how great it was to use being lightweight, great battery life (5-6 hours), a little slower than my desktop (a lot slower), but functionally very good for email, surfing, travel, wireless and with a reasonable keyboard size. I have bypassed my other computers every night to use the netbook because it is so versatile. Thought it was GREAT, until tonight, went to turn it on and after 26 days the hard drive failed. I purchased it at Costco, called the concierge service, got in touch with Acer, and found that I could not perform a full format in recovery (that is what they called it) and could not get beyond the check cable error and no bootable device. Acer said that the hard drive is bad and to return it. Luckily I had only loaded Itunes and some email. So not too big of a loss. Costco and Acer were great. I will return it tomorrow and get a new unit. Acer stated that this is an isolated incident so should not encounter this problem with a new unit. I will give this another try... not too inconvenient so far. I had far worst luck with HP 3 years ago (3 desktops and a laptop in less than a year). At least I can return it due to the 90 day Costco return policy and 2 year warranty. I will be travelling over the holidays so hopefully this one will work out. By the way, Costco had a great sale at $249 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Hopefully the hard drive had nothing to do with the reduced price. Thought it was a great buy. Sounded like other buyers received Windows 7 Starter.
