I have had my Acer AO722-0418 for about a week now. I ultimately decided to go with a netbook after experimenting with an Android tablet. Though tablets are cool and trendy these days, they are just too limited for my needs. I don't like the idea of buying in to one system or another (Apple, Android, etc). I also found typing on a tablet very cumbersome. Of course you can add a keyboard to a tablet, but if you're going to do that why not buy a netbook?

I wanted a powerful netbook. Most of the netbooks carried in my local stores were pretty limited with RAM and also only came with the starter edition of Windows 7. The 722-0418 appealed to me because it comes with 4GB Ram, 1MB L2 cache, and a 500GB HD. The display was also a higher resolution screen than most other netbooks in my local stores. The only concern I had was the 1.0ghz dual core processor. I still don't understand why Acer went with a slower processor than they did with their cheaper in-store models (D257, etc). These cheaper models have a 1.66ghz dual core processor compared with the 1.0ghz dual core of the 722-0418.

I am not a computer guru, but I came to the conclusion that they went with a slower processor to extend battery life and keep the cpu running cooler? From reading the specs from Acer it seems like the increased RAM and larger cache would help to make up for the slower processor speed, though perhaps this is not the case?

Now for the performance:

The main uses I use a netbook for are web surfing and watching Netflix/Hulu. Surfing the web over wi-fi is just as snappy as my 2.0ghz dual core Dell laptop. The touch pad pointer works well. It has a scroll feature that really makes using it easy to get used to. I did have some issues watching Netflix in HD. In fact, it didn't work at all.

I think this laptop is perfectly sufficient for most people's needs, and it has an aesthetically pleasing design to boot.

I like it quite a bit for everyday use because it's small and light, but it also has a full-size keyboard and a decently large screen. It has plenty of power for web browsing and streaming video, as well as a sizable hard drive. It can even run a lot of games, as long as they're not too graphics-intensive. (I'd suggest checking out the Good Old Games site for a bonanza of fun, cheap older games that will work just fine on this machine.) The battery life is also good.

In many ways, this is an alternative to an iPad for people who care more about spreadsheets and word processing (and storage) than a touch interface. I can back up my entire DVD library to this computer and watch half a season of Mad Men or something on a long flight without having to worry about an internet connection. Or I can play a real time strategy game. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Great netbook with large hard drive and small size. The built-in web cam is not the greatest but gets the job done. Great netbook for travel or for people on the go.

This mini PC is meant to claw back market share from tablets. It is amply configured as compared to the other five star rated Acer 11.6 with only 2GB of ram and a smaller hard drive. I'm buying from a warehouse club for a huge discount rather than paying over MSRP. That just me.

Unfortunately, my acer did not work out of the box. I turned it on and immediately the Acer eRecovery Management application came on and started a 'recovery' process. This is not what I expected and it made me think that something was wrong. 20 minutes later, I got a 'reading the i/o error', and the recovery stopped at 57% restored. This further confirmed for me that something was wrong, and since I'm not very technical and wouldn't even know how to fix this, I am returning this ASAP.

I am rating it at least a 2, since it looks pretty and is very light. I'm sure it's great when it works.

I needed a replacement for an old desktop computer and rather than get a high-end laptop which would be technologically obsolete in a year or buy a tablet which would still require multiple attachments and a keyboard, I figured the best option would be a netbook. There were not many brands offering netbooks and the clear frontrunners were Asus and Acer. At the time I was shopping the latter had more positive reviews, higher speeds and more model variations to choose from.

The description on this computer speaks for itself, but I can say that using it was as simple as popping in the battery, charging it, and turning it on. I was able to opt out/remove bloatware easily, and i currently have MS Office suite running on Windows 7 and I use Firefox (hate IE) all without any issues. This particular model has an HD screen which seems okay for me but I can't comment on resolution quality compared to the non-HD models. After narrowing my choices down by specs, I basically had to choose between that and bluetooth (a dongle is pretty easy to find). I am not a gamer but i would not advise any hardcore player to use this device for gaming - it will either freeze or crash. Working, surfing, watching videos... fine.

The multi-gesture touchpad is very useful and after getting used to the click-bar, i don't miss my mouse anymore. The only skill I haven't practiced on the pad is the "rotate" function.

This Acer is relatively lightweight (not Mac light but you get the gist), and easily portable as it thin (as far as budget computers go) and is approximately the size of a college notebook.

My 3 gripes:
1) The lid surface is a fingerprint/dust/grime magnet - already expected this based on other reviews, so not a big deal.
