4.0 out of 5 stars Impresive machine but Vista 64 is not bug free, September 4, 2009
This review is from: Acer Aspire Predator G7710-U7790A Gaming Desktop (Personal Computers)
Order arrived as promised from Tiger Direct. Package was in excellent condition, packing used by ACER was well designed.
Put the system together easely and it boot-up without issues.
Manual is incomplete, and does not provide sufficient detail to guide someone through optimization of the system configuration.
If you are not experience in buiding computer systems and know how to configure it, you will have a difficult time figuring things out.
This is not a a good choise for a newbee.

Installed 2 1TB Seagate Barracuda identical drives to use in a RAID 1 configuration for my digital photography.
Configured BIOS for RAID, rebooted and defined what drives would make the RAID volume.
Rebooted and Vista blue screened and went into a safe auto recovery mode. Message was that Windows failed to load.
This operation was repeated and message required a re-install of the software from system back-up.

Machine is quite, looks good, is a killer in graphics but the operating system does it no justice.
I do hope Windows 7 is an improvement over Vista.

Today I received the response from Acer.

Response (Riyas) - 09/05/2009 07:42 AMDear Jaime Zuloaga, Thank you for contacting Acer America. I have verified your serial number and found that you are an in warranty customer. I understand that you are facing an issue related to McAfee anti virus. Please be informed that Acer provided the trial version of anti virus. To update the McAfee anti virus you need to purchase the full version. As per the mail i understand that you are facing an issue related to Raid set-up. Since this issue involves third party software, we fall short of resources with which we could better diagnose and resolve it for you. However Acer technicians are bound to support its customers with the removal or installation of any hardware or software shipped across with Acer machines. But they are not trained on all the advanced features of the software or hardware Acer sells. Because this calls up on a higher level of expertise the advance troubleshooting, we only have support over the phone on these issues and it is chargeable. [...] and the validity will be 1 year which can be billed to a credit card. Note: Items from the Acer Accessory Store are fully supported by the manufacturer of the hardware or publisher of the software that you purchased. I sincerely hope that one of these options provides a resolution for this issue. I hope that you find this response informative. I have created a case file regarding this issue and please make a note of Service Request ID: 1-5AN7VG. For further clarifications please feel free to visit our web site [...] Thank you for contacting Acer, Have a great day! Respectfully,Acer America Online Technical Support.

5.0 out of 5 stars Acer Predator G7710 - Worth the experience, October 17, 2009
This review is from: Acer Aspire Predator G7710-U7790A Gaming Desktop (Personal Computers)
I'm a long time PC and Mac owner and gamer. Although I prefer my Macbook for everyday tasks, it doesn't really fulfill my gaming needs. A few weeks ago, I was able to pick up this Acer Predator G7710 for a fraction of the normal cost ($930 after Bing cash back from Tigerdirect). Here is my analysis thusfar:

Acer payed particular attention to the packaging of the computer. The PC was well packaged to prevent damage and looked classy.

The computer case itself is very well designed. From the liquid cooling to the 9 USB ports or tool-less case and hot-swappable hard drives, the case is absolutely amazing. Granted, it is a little futuristic looking, but not uncommon for a gaming rig.

The hardware components are high quality and work well together.

Comes with a free Windows 7 upgrade.

Easy to set up!

Overall I'd highly recommend this computer. It is well thought out and is a real value at $1250 or less.

1.0 out of 5 stars Amazon's associate company exists?, February 6, 2010

The Amazon link for the Acer Predator computer is for a different company which does not accept credit cards but instead wants a cash transfer? Also, couldn't get the company phone numbers to work. Does Amazon bother to check out these companies. Perhaps Amazon has grown to big to care?
