4.0 out of 5 stars small, powerful, long battery life, quality could be better
I wanted something small, light, powerful with long battery life.

I had to send it back because the keyboard had some keys that did not work. So now I am waiting on a replacement, had to wait a while to get it so so kind of a bummer.

pros:
- battery life was as promised, 5-7 hours depending on what you do.
- way faster than my old N280...

2.0 out of 5 stars Fan is too noisy
I really don't like fans in notebooks at all. But if they're *really* quiet and run only occasionally, I can live with them.

Unfortunately, the fan in the 1810T runs constantly alternating between barely audible and definitely noticeable.

The touchpad seems small for extended comfortable use, too.

I think this is going back. Too bad since...

This review is from: Acer Aspire Timeline AS1810T-8679 11.6-Inch Blue Laptop - Over 8 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Home Premium) (Personal Computers)

- way faster than my old N280 netbook (others report passmark of 891).
- variable speed fan runs a lot but is quiet even at some of the midrange speeds. The targus (10") netbook chill mat fits it nicely. Has vents on the bottom so a netbook cooler helps.
- Memory and HD doors on the bottom, this is a big plus for me. HD easy to change, be sure to undo the ribbon cable connector before lifting the HD out.
- Win7 reports 3999 Mb of total RAM (pretty good).
- BIOS can boot from USB devices (needed for emergency recovery).

cons:
- build quality seems a bit low, guess I am used to business model Dell's.
- screen flickers slightly, as if the brightness setting is unstable, but is otherwise crisp and bright.
- keyboard didn't work on my unit, feels cheap like my netbook did.

fyi:
- Comes with a 12Gb recovery partition, it prompts you to burn recovery DVD's, have to buy a USB dvd. You can order recovery Dvd's from Acer's support website. They appear to be bootable DVD's but I did not try them. Documentation says restoring from the DVD's does not remake the recovery partition, but preserves it if it is there.
- comes with a cloth sleeve, buy a better case if you want protection.

The price is right so no complaints if it works.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Lightweight Computer, December 28, 2009

This review is from: Acer Aspire Timeline AS1810T-8679 11.6-Inch Blue Laptop - Over 8 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Home Premium) (Personal Computers)
I am very pleased with the Acer Aspire Timeline AS1810T-8679. It is larger than most netbooks; in fact, very much like the Fujitsu and Sony machines I have had in the last few years--minus the internal DVD drive. I chose the 1810T because of its duo processor which allows me to run demanding programs which it does well. I have no patience with slow running machines which the 1810T fortunately is not. It functions well. You will need to purchase an external USB connected DVD drive in order to download programs but they are inexpensive and smaller than in the past. The screen and keyboard are fine. Truthfully, this is much more like a small notebook than a netbook. The battery life is outstanding. I have gone all day without needing to plug it in.

I have found customer service to be not as useful as Fujitsu's. I have called on two issues. The first was some sticking keys. The person responding had me go into the system to uninstall and reinstall something which had no bearing on sticky keys. Finally,I blew the keyboard with canned air and fixed it. The second problem was and still is not being able to uninstall a trial version of Office 2007. Customer service said it is a Microsoft problem and to call Acer back for help if Microsoft couldn't resolve the issue which clearly implies that Acer can help if they wanted to. I have been accustomed to phenomenal customer service with Fujitsu so am not pleased with this aspect of the Aspire. Hopefully the computer won't be facing any major issues.

I fully recommend this machine if you are looking for a lightweight, relatively powerful, easy to use computer.

I was one of the few lucky ones who got this Acer 1810T with su7300 and 4GB memory early December, for $600.

I have not found any problems with it so far.

This is the BOMB! I love it...it has come in handy all over the world! Very media savvy device - audio, video, internet connection, sound quality, mike - it has it all! The battery life is excellent! I am very glad to have bought this computer. SUPERB! Very comfortable keyboard, good screen size, very airplane friendly, and super wireless device (very sensitive!). I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone interested in a hybrid laptop/netbook.

4.0 out of 5 stars Small and fast -- beautiful travel computer., April 26, 2010
This review is from: Acer Aspire Timeline AS1810T-8679 11.6-Inch Blue Laptop - Over 8 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Home Premium) (Personal Computers)
Pros: Great feel, very light, screen is just right size (smaller would be too small, larger would be too heavy). Performance is surprisingly good. Keyboard is spacious.
Cons: None really. I needed a light travel computer, and this fits the bill.
Caveats: the battery life is very good, but no way is it 8+ hours! Maybe 5 1/2 depending on what you're doing. I get through a day usually, but will probably need a power supply at work for when I'm using it a lot. Still, 5 1/2 hours is pretty good!
Surprises: Really zippy little machine. I've been trying some very demanding music software and it runs it quite well.

Absolutely the best! This little machine is outstanding. Only drawback is the shiny blue cover which shows fingerprints. I covered it with a gelskin which feels just like "leather" and looks like a tropical leaf. I had to trim it to fit the smaller cover but it looks great. I highly reccommend this ultraportable gem! I have a netbook, but this is much faster. Windows 7 does have some kinks and some programs balk at the 64 bit system. Adobe flash player does not have a 64 bit system yet, so those files don't work. Amazon was great to work with, along with Tiger Direct.

This review is from: Acer Aspire Timeline AS1810T-8679 11.6-Inch Blue Laptop - Over 8 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Home Premium) (Personal Computers)
I bought my acer 1810t to have a small, portable, long use battery laptop that I could type on comfortably, had ok screen resolution, had win 7 on it and dual boot with ubuntu. It works very well for these goals. Only negatives I see: 1) arrow keys are small (makes games more difficult to play), 2) keyboard is fine, but not as solid/fun to use as other laptops, 3) on casual use, battery life is less with ubuntu, although increases when you turn off bluetooth, 4) if hard core gaming was important to you, get a laptop with a video chip instead, 5) certainly the CPU included is not the fastest out there/coming but that was a trade I was willing to make for my needs - for my needs the computer works great, 6) a WiFi switch is not on it, 7) if you care, the top has that glossy surface that gets fingerprints, 8) there is no CD drive (not a big deal, but when I got this, if acer had a 13 inch model with similar CPU and specs with a CD/DVD drive at a similar price I would have got that, 9) screen is the size it is - I find it ok to work on, although the older your eyes are, that might cause you to need to increase font size or get a bigger monitor, 10) the trackpad/buttons occasionally get accidentally triggered when I type, 11) there is only one audio out port for headphones (not ideal for 2 people listening), 12) like most current laptops, your wrists are off the product when you type - causing you to rest them on the table, 13) no firewire/new PC card port. On the plus side, 1) it is perfect for using in an airplane, 2) it is defintely small/portable, 3) is quiet does not makes lots of heat, 4) keys are ok size in general, making typing fine. In summary, this computer does everything you expect given its specs and I give it a 5 star rating for that reason.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing PC for the money, December 14, 2009

This review is from: Acer Aspire Timeline AS1810T-8679 11.6-Inch Blue Laptop - Over 8 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Home Premium) (Personal Computers)
I have had mine now for about 10 days. I am shocked at how fast it is! It was faster than my core 2 duo 2.5 ghz until i upgraded it to win 7. It is just amazing that it boots up to win 7 in less than 30 seconds and it shut downs in less than 10. I was one of the lucky people who got one ordered originally and ended getting it almost a month late but it was worth it! I can recommend this machine without any reservations unless you want it for gaming. I do some light gaming on it (gal civ 2 mostly...) and some older less intense first person shooters and i am just really happy with this machine. Its the perfect size... oh... and last but not least... BATTERY LIFE... during intense gaming online playing counterstrike i played in excess of 6 hours. I did adjust my battery warnings down to 5 3 and 1 percent because at 10 percent you have at least 30 min of battery left... and this is on high performance not the balanced. Just make sure to take out all the junk that acer puts on it from the factory (pc decrapifier helps!)and you will love this baby!

A light weight and portable computer with good performance. Excellent with office products.
Screen is clear and has resolution compatable with important software. Touch pad is responsive but
you may perfer an usb mouse like many laptops. Keyboard is comfortable. Those desiring a light weight portable
for travel, presentations, websurfing, music (with headphones) and many other activities will enjoy this product.

Too bad since it had everything else I wanted.
