I bought this monitor for my wife to use in its portrait mode. Unlike most other wide screen monitors on the market, this LCD has the ability to pivot 90 degrees changing its landscape aspect ratio to a portrait aspect ratio.

The display looks bright and sharp in both orientations.

The change from one orientation to the other requires a bit of user input, either by hitting a key-combination or by choosing the desired rotation setting from a menu.

I ordered the B223-bdmr from Target via Amazon but received the cheaper V223 bd. Similar model numbers but not the same item. Acer needs to do a better job of differentiating its models.

Amazon was easy with the return but I wasted about two hours in the process. I did set up the cheaper/non-tilt model and the picture looked fine but re-packing everything and getting to the post office had not been in my plans.

It might be a good idea to call this order in. You might get what you wanted without the return cycle.

I have been working in a computer lab with Acer monitors and thus far, they have performed well. If I were living my life as an on-line gamer, I might spend the extra for the performance edge but for general use, I think that the Acer monitors offer a nice balance of performance and value.

1/3/09 I received the replacement monitor and was not entirely surprised to find that Amazon had, once again, shipped me the V223 instead of the B223. Another couple of phone calls, some more on-line and another chance to repeat the details of the same problem....

Long story short-I get to wait for a refund and then can re-order the monitor after Amazon has worked out their inventory problems. In the end, my complaint is with Amazon for not getting this right. Twice.

In the fullness of time, I may find that I hate the monitor on its merits but not having seen it yet, I would not know.

On this item, from Amazon, as the Romans would say 'Caveat Emptor' (let the buyer beware)

3.0 out of 5 stars If only I'd received the correct monitor, June 17, 2009
This review is from: Acer ET.EB3WP.002 22-Inch Widescreen DVI LCD Monitor (Black) (Electronics)
An update on this review will be forthcoming once I receive the correct monitor. As with other reviewers they have shipped the V223W instead of the B223W. I purchased this monitor primarily for the tilt/rotation capabilities and, of course, the V223W does not have them (Hence why it is a less expensive[...]

Got this monitor because it rotates and rotating monitors are very hard to find. Perfect for Digitizing embroidery patterns as I can turn the montior 90 degress and can see the entire embroidery hoop of my largest hoop.

Great color in my opinion, easy to set up and install the rotation software.

You must be careful to get the B223W and not the other Acer 22-inch budget models which do not have the same features. This model swivels between landscape and portrait viewing which is an excellent feature and has the digital DVI and analog VGA input options. No complaints about clarity, speed and performance. However, if you are looking for full HD 1080 resolution (for gaming and movies, etc.) you should know that this monitor provides only 1050, which is more than adequate for the office.

I purchased two of these monitors from Amazon. Two much cheaper monitors (model V223B) were shipped from Midway Auto. I contacted shipper; returned monitors and 21 days later have yet to receive a refund. 5 phone calls later to Amazon and I have yet to receive a callback or refund.

1.0 out of 5 stars BEWARE WHEN PURCHASING THIS MONITOR FROM _ANY_ WEBSITE, December 17, 2008

I first purchased 2 of these from a reputable company on eBay and they ended up sending me the wrong monitor. They sent the Acer V223-WBD rather than the B223. The V223 is considerably cheaper and does not have height adjust. Returned those, still waiting for my refund.

Then I purchased 2 of these from Target via the Amazon Marketplace. AGAIN I received 2 V223's instead of the B223. Boy am I mad. At least the return process through Amazon was less of a headache compared to eBay.

But the point remains that there is something really messed up with companies' inventories and these monitors. I did some looking around and a number of other people have had the same experience with other companies (sent the V223 instead of the B223). This is ridiculous.

Anyways, this time I'm ordering an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT monitor from a different manufacturer and from Newegg.com. It will cost more, but Newegg likely won't f*** up.

Buy the Acer B223 ONLY if you're willing to deal with a solid month of headaches!!!!!

I ordered 4 of these monitors for work, and I was sent much cheaper models. Then they did not send the proper amount of return mailing labels. I was told to duplicate the one mailing label they did send (even when I told them UPS would not accept a duplicate label because they would require individual tracking numbers per box). A supervivor told me to do it anyway, and of course UPS refused. A lot of hassel to return, but I finally got my credit days after I received the right monitors from a more reliable company.

4.0 out of 5 stars Looks Great -- But you cant tilt the monitor up or down, May 5, 2009

The picture looks great, but one annoying thing is you cant tilt the monitor up or down! So I had to set it on a couple of books so that when I set at my desk the angle is right! (on the stand it's default angle is a bit downward, so you need to put it up higher)

2.0 out of 5 stars Clarity of Image Is Weak and Speaker Unsatisfactory, March 25, 2009
This review is from: Acer ET.EB3WP.002 22-Inch Widescreen DVI LCD Monitor (Black) (Electronics)
I bought the Acer B223W model with speakers from B&H video for $199.95. I use it for writing and research. The large screen is a definite advantage over my previous 17", speeding up work time by allowing adjacent screens for a Word document and an internet item to be visible at the same time. Drawbacks are:

(1) A poor quality of resolution for text display; text in a PDF document is not really crisp at 100% image size.
(2) The speakers are not only low-quality, which I expected of speakers that must be squeezed into such a small space, but the volume is inadequate. The sound on many internet sites is a strain to hear, even at maximum volume.
(3) Volume control requires multiple pushing of buttons; this also causes an annoying pop-up display right on the center of the screen that persists for serveral seconds, interrupting the video presentation. My Dell 17" LCD monitor had an attached speaker at the bottom with a simple volume control knob. It allowed precise control without an annoying display. The sound quality was also poor, but the volume was adequate.

The price is right, but consider these drawbacks.
