Are there better projectors out there for 2D content?
Sure, for 4-10x the cost. Are there better projectors out there for 3D? Possibly, but nothing I know of under 5k+ and even those have more ghosting issues than the acer. So it all comes down to the Acer being an amazing value for the money. --- Things I Love: 1. Image quality is top notch for 720p 2. Colors are excellent 3. It is very bright even in eco mode (almost too bright for dark room) 4. The high brightness helps 3d since glasses cut down some light. 5. It is quiet in eco mode I wish it had: 1. Faster colorwheel. I do see the DLP rainbow in every dark scene, and often even in brighter scenes. 2. Bigger zoom lens. I can BARELY get it to fill my 106" screen at 12' 3. Lens shift. I have a rear wall shelf mount @75" from the floor. I have to set the acer upside down on the shelf to make it fill the screen. Also, I hate using digital keystone because it lessens the image quality, especially small text, and without I can not get correct geometry. The top of my image overlaps a little on left and right sides and bottom lines up well. 4. better remote control. It is very small and unresponsive. I have to hold arm up high and point right at proj to get it to work. Please note, the features on my wishlist would easily make this projector cost over twice as much. While those features would be much appreciated, you can't fault the acer at the price they are selling for.

Ok, when I purchased this 720p/1080i projector, I had fully researched the item to be sure it would output Blu ray 3D and video gaming in 3D on a large 120" screen. It was a worthwhile investment. This projector, coupled with the Nvidia emitter/glasses, computer with a blu ray player and the right graphics card (check Nvidia website) and the right software- Arcsoft's Totalmedia, I now have near cinema sized 3D experiences at home- it does sound like a lot, but in the long run I spent less then 1/2 then I would have had I purchased the Panasonic, Sony or Samsung 3d tvs that are 1/2 the size of my screen. There is absolutely no ghosting, and all of the 3D Blu rays I have watched are amazing, Monsters vs Aliens, Coraline, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, The Grand Canyon Adventure and Ice Age 3. I am hoping the 3D Blu ray releases will pick up and there will be many more choices available.. In the meantime, Nvidia has 400 PC games that can be played in 3D- Left for Dead 2 , Batman Arkham Asylum, etc (check ther site for more game titles). The immersive experience of 3D with this projector is unparalleled; at least until a 1080p 3D projector with a reasonable price comes out.

What's the best projector for 3D ?,

I bought a PC last year with the nVidia 3d system, it came with a Samsung 22" monitor and it looks utterly fantastic.
I instantly thought "I need a bigger display" so I went to nVidia's page to view compatible displays. The Optoma HD66 was and still is listed as being compatible ans supported. So I bought one...well guess what? it is neither compatible or currently supported. If you search the nvidia page you will find that if your HD66 was built before August of 2010 (that's right, August of 2010!) it WILL NOT WORK. I then called Optoma tech support and was told by the phone tech that in order for it to work, it had to be sent back to the factory for modification and that I would be responsible for the shipping.... I told the guy that that was outrageous and I would simply return it and get something that actually did work as advertised. In case your wondering, I purchased the Acer H5360 .. I should have purchased it the first time around, not only does the 3D work flawlessly, it has way more features than the HD66 like "auto keystone, auto orientation, colored wall compensation" to name a few. If your looking for a 3D projector that really delivers, you can wait two months(the tech support guy told me it would take that long to get the new ones on the shelves)till the compatible HD66's hit the streets (and hope they work)or you can get the Acer H5360. Of course dealing with Amazon is the only way to go, the return of the HD66 was simple and I am enjoying real 3D in my living room on the Acer.

As good as I expected, Maybe Better,

I spent a couple months looking for the right home theater projector at the best price. Finally I gave myself a date to order it by and I believe I came up with the right decision.
The picture quality is better than I expected and very crisp and clear. I leave it on movie mode so any room light will cause a little washout. But when there is very little light, especially at night, I don't think you could get a better projector. I can't believe the projectors that are $300-$400 more could be any more satisfying. The menu functions are simple and easy to operate. To me the fan is quiet and not even noticeable, especially once I mounted it to the ceiling. The ceiling mount is only a 3 prong, the four prong mounts don't work very well unless you take off the extra prong. I had a dozen friends over to watch the Superbowl, now they all want a projector, especially when I told them the price (in the mid $500's). I only have the room to project a 3'x 7' screen at 1080p, but it will do. Ha, side note. My soon to be wife thought it was a hassle, me trying to figure out our living room setup. She tried to talk me into a 43-50" flat screen. Now she is thankful I didn't listen to her. She says she can see everything so much easier, clearer and in more detail than she has ever seen. The Optoma's and Viewsonic's and others I am sure are fine projectors. But what 90% of us are looking for in a home theater, the Acer H5360 will make you happy.

I was going to rent a projector for 4 or 5 days at Christmas, then I came across this projector which costs almost exactly the same amount as the rental. This thing is great. Its small. It has all kinds of connectivity choices. It is bright (which is important for me because the room I use it in is large and has a lot of windows). It even has built in speakers (I don't actually use them). The replacement bulbs are reasonably priced. It is extremely easy to use. Don't bother with the manual - just hook it up. I had both an s-video and hdmi connection at the same time, although I would only power up 1 device at a time: this thing detects that and automatically switches to the live connection. I am now projecting it on a 110" screen and it looks excellent with 720p content or higher, which it will down-convert to 720p which is its native resolution. The only negatives are that the remote has a narrow line-of-sight, the zoom range is very small and there is no lens-shift: none of these are problems for me and I would not expect the last two in a projector that is so inexpensive. If you want a nice projector for an unbelievably low price, this is it.

I have this on a PC with NVidia's 3D Vision system, and it works great. I just wish the remote worked better, and the focus was easier to adjust (it is right by the lens, which gets hot). Otherwise, it works fine, and is pretty bright. I use Amazon's 25 foot DVI to HDMI cable with it, which is cheap, and works perfectly.

Best Projector Bang for your Devalued Buck!,

I bought this Acer projector in June 2010 and have been using it almost every day since it arrived. The best thing about it is it's "connectability"! If that isn't a word then it should be. I've plugged everything into this thing and it all works like a charm. From laptops, cameras, old handycams, and dvd players, to our Dish Network DVR, the Playstation 3, and even the Atari and Colecovision! Blasting Zombies and over running the VC is awesome on the big screen in Black Ops, but there is just nothing like playing Galaga on a 12' screen under the stars! This thing is great! Great picture using HDMI from Dish HD and anything played from the PS3, and the VGA stuff ain't bad either. I appreciate being able to adjust variables such as RGB saturation independently for the lower res inputs. I currently have it ceiling mounted toward a 120" screen, but it often takes a trip outside, mounted to a tripod, to light up a 12 footer at our very own lawn chair theater when weather permits. In both settings the picture is sharp and the colors are deep and bright. There is some rainbowing as with all DLP/colorwheel projectors, but it is hardly a deal breaker considering I've seen the same thing from units costing 2-3X the price with far less "connectability". I'm not into 3D so I haven't checked that feature out on it, but have read the other reviews on the subject. Like the rest of the machine with its multi "connectability" options, 3D functionality sounds awesome as well. The Acer 5360 Projector is such a good deal that I plan on buying a second one this summer so that I don't have to unmount from the ceiling when we wanna take it outside. At $575 this is the best deal you're gonna get in a projector with all it does! I paid $100 more last year and thought I got a great deal since I planned on investing at least a grand on a decent projector. $575 makes buying a second one even sweeter! If you are looking to watch movies or play video games on a big screen, or if you are wanting to plug in almost any visual device to a more modern larger display, don't waste money on a tiny expensive flatscreen. The Acer 5360 is the ticket for a great picture that is truly larger than life!

I've only had the pleasure of using two projectors in my life, so my amazement of this projector might come from that. We upgraded from an inFocus SP4805 (lower resolution, not great on lumens).
Things I like: 1) Really compact. Box shape is not the most modern of designs, but it is actually very nice and easy to hold with one hand. Comes with a carry bag good for the power cable and VGA cable. 2) Quiet in Eco-Mode, and yet still very bright. 3) Feet are rubberized. 4) Remote slides into the projector, which is kind of nice. Things I don't like: 1) Throw distance not great. 2) The sliding remote I believe is the only source of control -- lose it, then uh oh! For $550, great price and worth it!

I didn't know what to expect, as I had never purchased a projector before. This projector far exceeded my expectations! The picture is bright and clear. The colors are amazing! Watching movies projected on a 90" screen is a lot of fun. The price was also right. All in all I am very satisfied. I haven't tried the 3d yet, but if it's as good as the 2d experience I'll be hooked.

Not suitable for areas with frequent power outages, many dead pixels after 1 year,

This review is from: Acer® H5360 3D-DLP Projector (Office Product)
I purchased this projector after reading a favorable review in a computer magazine. When I tried it out, I failed to properly plug in the power cord all the way. Unfortunately it came out when I moved the projector to adjust the picture. It took only a few seconds to figure out what had happened and to plug it back in, but the device did not survive losing power. The internals get so hot that components go up in smoke without the fan properly cooling down the lamp.
Amazon quickly sent a replacement unit. I called Acer support the next day to get an opinion on this issue. The question that I asked was: "What is the expected result when there is a power outage while watching a movie". I spent 2 hours on the line with India, without getting an answer. The people I spoke with recited the manual, which I had already studied. The same magazine that originally recommended this projector published a note a couple of issues later that describe support issues at Acer. The projector requires a firmware update because the original firmware does not remember configuration settings. This can only be done at the factory, but customers reported that their projectors came back without any update done. I like the projector, it is bright and crisp and quiet. I cannot comment on the 3D capabilities - I did not purchase it with the intent to watch 3d content right away, but I wanted to have the option in the future. Update after 15 months of ownership: I have had the projector stored away in its case for most of the time until recently. The lamp had no more than 20 hours of use when I installed on the ceiling of my newly finished basement for more frequent use in a home theater setup. Three days ago, a white pixel appeared. Since then, several new white and black pixels appeared on a daily basis, and I now have over two dozen. It will soon be no longer usable if pixels keep going out at this rate. The basement is clean, air-conditioned, and a low-dust environment. From what I read, replacing the DLP chip is cost-prohibitive and the projector will become e-waste ater a little over a year with less than 100 hours of use. I am downgrading it to one star. My picture looks very much like the ones shown in this thread:[...] and based on the number of posts there is seems to me that this is not an unusual problem with Acer projectors. |
