5.0 out of 5 stars Good Deal!
For the money I think it is quite the deal. If the screen is totally black there is a little light leak at the top and bottom, but it's not noticeable once any type of picture is being displayed. It also does a fair job displaying at other resolutions when you switch from the native 1920x1080. The sound comes from only one speaker, but it is adequate for most of the stuff...

I'm on my second H213h. The first one's right menu "button" would not function right out of the box. Needless to say, I'm not entirely thrilled with this buttonless system, even when it's working as it should. But that aside...

For the money I think it is quite the deal. If the screen is totally black there is a little light leak at the top and bottom, but it's not noticeable once any type of picture is being displayed. It also does a fair job displaying at other resolutions when you switch from the native 1920x1080. The sound comes from only one speaker, but it is adequate for most of the stuff you do on a computer (dinks, donks, buzzes and simple dialog). If you want to listen to music I would recommend going with external speakers. The only other rub is although you can tilt the screen it doesn't go up and down, but hey...It only cost me $179 for a 1920X1080 monitor. Keep in mind that it also has HDMI and came with the feaking HDMI cable....NICE! Why these cables cost $30 in Wal-mart for the cheep ones is beyond me?????? All in all a definite 2 thumbs up!

I'm on my second H213h. The first one's right menu "button" would not function right out of the box. Needless to say, I'm not entirely thrilled with this buttonless system, even when it's working as it should. But that aside...

The monitor is very nice. Colors are very brilliant and bright. I have not found what the static contrast ratio is, but I'm guessing around 1000:1. Dynamic ratios are like digital zoom to me; a selling point to the ignorant. Other nice features are the resolution, 1920x1080. Full HD videos display perfectly on the screen without black bars or any of that nonsense. Also being it's native resolution, it looks sharper than say my LCD TV displaying 720p on it's 1440x900 LCD. VGA/DVI/HDMI inputs are all on the back, and it comes with a cable for each (yes, HDMI cable...very nice!).

Now for the bad... The speakers are horrible. While I wasn't expecting too much, I suppose I'm also spoiled by the decent speakers in my Toshiba LCD TV. And while I normally wouldn't complain, it's rather difficult to enjoy an HDMI device (say an Xbox 360) when you're limited to these muffled speakers. But as backups for a computer's beeps and all, they work fine.

I'd also like to bring up the interface once again. While the "buttons" aren't horrible, they are much more difficult to use than traditional buttons. Sometimes it takes multiple times to get the buttons to function. At least the power button is a true click button and not this other nonsense.

--update--
OK, so I'm on my third monitor now and beginning to question my purchase. First two had/developed button issues. My third one seems to work, but it's very quirky. Sometimes the menu buttons won't illuminate(or function), sometimes it won't go to standby when the PC does. If I could return it, I probably would. If I could purchase again, I probably wouldn't...

--last update--
Earlier today while using my desktop, I noticed none of the lights for the OSD lit up. Now since I've shut my PC down, they all remain lit and the power light is blue rather than yellow (even though it is in standby). A few days ago I shut my computer down and the monitor got stuck in a loop searching for video feeds on HDMI-VGA-DVI-HDMI...yeah. Visually it looks fine, but keep away from these "buttonless" panels!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very satisfied, January 24, 2009
This review is from: Acer H213H bmid 21-Inch Widescreen LCD Display (Black) (Personal Computers)
I was looking for a very specific monitor for my husband. It had to have more or equal to 19K dynamic contrast ratio, over 20 in. display, more or equal to 1K static contrast ratio, 1080 resolution, vga, dvi, hdmi ports. There were no dead pixels and it came exactly when I wanted thanks to tigerdirect. It looks great with hi def media, but our expectations are not as high as someone who critiques these for a living. Very satisfied.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Monitor!, January 16, 2009
This review is from: Acer H213H bmid 21-Inch Widescreen LCD Display (Black) (Personal Computers)
This monitor is absolutely beautiful. The clarity is amazing, and it is very responsive. With that said, I did have a couple of problems. I connected the monitor to a Dell Dimension 2400. The on-board video card did not support the widescreen resolutions. I can't fault the monitor for that, the computer was made before they came out. I installed a new video card that did support the widescreen resolutions. That problem was solved. The next issue was that the DVI cable didn't work. Acer support responded quickly that the DVI cable needs to be plugged in before the computer is powered on (I was trying to switch from the VGA to the DVI while I setup the monitor), that solved that problem. The monitor software prompted me a couple of times about re-installing the auto-rotation feature. I ignored it until one day it did auto-rotate and my screen was skewed 90 degrees. After the reinstall I've had no problems. The monitor is great, and service is exceptional, I highly recommend this monitor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works awesome with Xbox 360!, July 9, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Acer H213H bmid 21-Inch Widescreen LCD Display (Black) (Personal Computers)
Pros:
-1080p thru HDMI looks fantastic
-No blurring during fast FPS action
-Great size for gaming
-Response time is almost nonexistent

Cons:
-Built in speakers are VERY quiet and weak (I use Turtle Beach X1's on this bad boy, HDMI out for video, modified AV cable for X1 headset audio)
-No headphone output from the monitor itself (thus the modified 360 AV cable and HDMI combination... it is very easy to do and cost $0)

Great monitor and you can't beat the price!

This monitor is the best!!! if you are looking for a 1080P resolution!!!!
I bought this monitor so i could play my PS3 on a 1080P resolution and is the best!!!
For the price (Less than $200) you get an excellent quality, perfect monitor, best resolution (1080P), and a big plus because you get a HDMI and some other cables too; and the monitor also comes with internal speakers, even thought they are not so good (But what do you want!? this is a monitor NOT A TV, so the speakers are a plus too).
I dont think you can find a 22" LCD Monitor Full HD for less than $200, like this monitor!
BUY IT!!

This is an excellent monitor! I've had it for a little over 3 months and am very glad I bought it. So far my only complaint has been the speakers - but it's a monitor so I didn't expect them to be great. The touch panel is superb and I haven't experienced any problems as of yet. In my eyes there are really no cons. I have my PS3 connected via HDMI at 1080P and an xbox via VGA at 720P and it is just as good, if not better, then on my TV.

Bought this when the price was $154. Great bargain, free shipping + no tax. Needs a little calibration but once its setup the clarity is just awesome.

If you are using this with a PC I suggest that you calibrate with your video card manufactures software ATI or Nvidia. Monitor steup's don't give you enough diversity in your adjusments.

5.0 out of 5 stars This monitor makes me feel bad, August 4, 2009
By
This review is from: Acer H213H bmid 21-Inch Widescreen LCD Display (Black) (Personal Computers)
I bought the Acer H213H a few days ago, and it's making me feel bad! Why? Because I've added it to my desktop as a next-door-neighbor to a very respected Samsung 220WM 22" panel - (dual-monitor setup) and it's making the Samsung look bad. Seriously.

The color vibrance and incredible clarity on the Acer put the Samsung to shame. I've spent an hour and a half trying to configure the Samsung to try and match the Acer's quality, and I've just not been able to do so.

What is most impressive about the Acer is the display of whites ... they are SNOW white, achieved without excessive brightness, and they reveal the Samsung's whites as slightly blue tinted. This is somewhat depressing, as I've not been able to correct this.

I don't want to spend another $175 on a 2nd Acer, but I may just have to!

Anyone want to buy a 22" Samsung? ;-)
