To address the "humming" issue...,
By
This review is from: Acer H243H bmid 24-Inch Widescreen LCD Display (Black) (Personal Computers)
I own two Acer H233H monitors, which was what the H243H replaced. I was about to pick up a third monitor, the H243H, when I decided to check out the reviews on Amazon and compare some specs from the H233H to the H243H. When I brought both products up, I noticed that the reviews seemed a little less favorable for the H243H compared to the H233H, so I gave them a look. I came to a negative review which left only one star because the monitor made a "humming" noise that was intolerable.I thought it was a bit serendipitous to have come across such an issue when I just realized and resolved it on my own today with both of my monitors. I never really noticed the humming till recently when running the two of them together. I attributed the "humming" to one of the monitors which I had dropped some time ago - it also happens to be the first of the two that I purchased, which was about 3 years ago, at least. HOW TO GET RID OF THE HUMMING: On the monitor, go to Menu > Brightness - adjust to level 100. It's that simple! With my monitor(s), I had the Brightness set at level 45 or 50 and the Contrast set at level 50. I don't know if that's Default or not because I've screwed around with the settings before (actually recently). Regardless, setting your monitor level to Brightness level 100 will get rid of the "humming" noise. You can try lowering the level and listen as it comes back. As to why it happens to work this way, I don't know. All I do know is that I've done it with both of my monitors and there is no more noise. I also lowered both levels to test and the noise came back in both cases. More on this monitor: I can't speak directly for the H243H yet, (I'm heading out to buy one when I finish this review, though because it is on sale!), but my dual H233Hs have been very good to me. I bought the first about 3 years ago, give or take, and it's survived a beating, literally. I've dropped it once, on it's face, which scratched the casing a little, but did no damage to the screen. And just the other night, when I was very frustrated with myself (not my PC or my monitors) I actually took the older of the two monitors and tried bashing the back of it on my knee a few times, then tossed it on my desk when I was done.... When I came to my senses the next day, I cleaned up my mess and hooked everything back up - the monitor works 100%! If anything, I probably did more damage to my knee.... Some other notes: -I bought the second monitor within a year after buying the first because I was so pleased with the quality and the price. -As I said, I'm planning to buy third, the H243H, today, which is about an inch bigger and has slightly better specs than the H233H, at least in response time at 2 ms as opposed to 5 ms. -I've used all three display options with great results: HDMI, DVI, VGA. -I've owned and used other types of monitors like Samsung and HP, and have a Samsung LCD TV which I've used as a monitor as well, and I really like the Acers better. They are also a much better value. I definitely recommend any of their monitors (or products for that matter - I had an Acer desktop in the past that served me well).

I love this monitor! you never know how much you need it untill you have it! I've previeously owned a samsung syncmaster 730B loved it, but having this makes it look like a dwarf! I can have two program windows side by side now surf the web and read a pdf at once! The quality on the xbox 360 and ps3 is simply lovely! the only thing that is kind of a bit of a bugger for me is that when switching inputs sometimes it takes a little doing with the touch buttons. It's not as responsive as i would like with the monitor seeing the signal or the touch buttons on the front, however its a minor thing and for me not a huge reason to look else where. No dead pixels it works I love it! OUUU and its VESA wall mountable no one really talks about this but this is the first thing I look for in a monitor! This ability really clears up your desk!

OMG... this monitor was wayy.. bigger than I expected. The colors are really clear and vibrant. NO dead or stuck pixels at all. I really like the touch panel at the bottom of the monitor. If you're reading this. Buy this monitor! You won't regret it!
