4.0 out of 5 stars Overall Rating is "beats expectations from "acer".'", April 23, 2011
This review is from: Acer H7531D DLP Home Theater Projector (1080P) (Office Product)
First off; I have never written a review before in my life for anything from amazon, but i buy on here all the time... So on this relatively big purchase i went out on a whem and bought it with no reviews, so i feel i owe it to people now that i have experienced it and feel i am above average on tech-knowledge... and i want to forewarn u i judge hard.. i am judging compared to projectors priced AT $1000.... not 800 not 1200 theres a difference..(even though this beats MOST $1200 projectors in my opinion, atleast on specs..) when i say 10/10, i mean perfect, meaning one probably doesnt exist... so 9/10 is the best u would probably see.. just trying to give u an idea of how i judge..

Overall 7.5/10

Performance;
color 7.5/10
contrast 8/10
brightness 7/10
Connections 8/10
adjustment options 7/10

Look;
noise 7.5/10
compact 9/10
quality 6.5/10

Reliability;
interior parts 6/10
(access) light emit-ion 6/10
Build 5.5/10

there are reasons for everything but i cant get into it all so.. if u have no money and want a b@da$$ projector for very cheap but it comes with a price.. cheap parts, but it still keeps up with the big boys that are more reliable and that have better quality parts.. it may not last as long as the $2000 and $3000 projectors but it puts out one great image.. Tooo good sometimes...

CONs;

1)Big green bar came on once while playing movie through component hook up (went away after resourced it bak to movie, never happened again.)
2)Dynamic Black CANNOT keep up in HDMI inputs.. it only works with lesser quality connections.. it has a slight "fade" affect going from dark to light screenshots... but only with the 2 HDMI inputs.. component works fine with dynamic black... but HDMI is SOO much better u dont need the dynamic black... (i have only tested this with my xbox360 slim halo reach edition. so it may just be xbox idk..)
3)cheap feet-pegs/stands, and founding a mount is harder than i wanted but acer is new..
4)more light comes out of the projector (itself's) sides than it should but i guess it helps with cooling which makes for better performance!?!?

Overall again ur buying a projector from a mid-level computer company, who has never attempted much like this or even seen this market before... they tried and did well but not perfect.. now for a first attempt i give the, 5/5... lets see what the next years look like... but if u wanna spend no more than $1000 on a projector this is the one i would tell my own mother to buy... if u have more money to spend u have options.. hope this helps to narrow it down!! happy shopping!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best 1080p Projector for the price right now, December 18, 2011
By

This review is from: Acer H7531D DLP Home Theater Projector (1080P) (Office Product)
I researched projectors for a very long time, reading reviews on avsforum.com, Projectorreviews.com, and other similar sites. I finally decided on this projector after reading all the reviews. This is my first projector so I am probably very easily impressed, but this thing just blows me away. Everybody who has seen me demo it is very impressed with the picture quality. I am using the out-of-the-box settings because I've never seen any need to tweak anything because it looks so good. I got this for under $700 for a Cyber monday deal. You just can't beat that price for the picture this thing provides.

I can't comment on the DLP rainbow effect. I've never seen them, but I don't really know what they even look like in the first place. All I know is that I'm not going to be looking for them.

My only complaint is that I didn't think it would be as hard as it has been to install it perfectly. My screen has to be in a pretty specific place, so that means the projector has to be mounted in a specific place. I thought I had measured everything very carefully, but I'm still seeing some keystone effects on the image (maybe 3/4" at the top of the screen compared to the bottom). I want to avoid using the keystone adjustment on the projector because that supposedly degrades picture quality. I won't take any stars off for this because no DLP projector in this price range has image placement flexibility or lens shifting, and it's something that I know I can fix by moving the projector around a bit.

My wife was concerned about getting a projector. She thought that the screen would be too big for the room, and that we would have to turn the room into a cave in order to watch anything on it. I'm happy to report that she is very impressed with it and has told me that it exceeded her expectations. The image is still very good even with the lights on in the room, or the curtains only partially drawn during the day, and she has loved watching movies on it at night. HD football on a 100" screen is also pretty cool.

If you are considering a projector, look at the Acer H7531 carefully. The budget offerings from Mitsubishi, Benq, and Epson are all more expensive and may offer some incrementally better features for the extra money, but it is hard to beat this Acer for the price. I am very happy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding performance for the money, August 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Acer H7531D DLP Home Theater Projector (1080P) (Office Product)
This is the best-performing 1080P projector for the money right now. As long as you use the default color setting, it looks fantastic for movies, too. It's bright enough to be used with some ambient light. There are only two downsides I can see: (1) the enhanced black setting causes the projector to give out a noticeable buzzing during its constant adjustments, along with visible dimming in the picture at times, and (2) switching from the default color setting produces dreadful color tints, so don't plan on custom adjusting this unless you have a few hours and the right tools to get it right. Great product for the money though!
