5.0 out of 5 stars The best of both worlds!
It is somewhat inaccurate to compare with a tablet or laptop - this one has both. It is indeed a full fledge computer with a side order of "tablet".

Of course, we all reserve the right of playing with many different toys! I have. One thing I like about tablets is the "app player" function. With Windows 8, this slate has it too. The app variety is small...

3.0 out of 5 stars If needing space buy a laptop
I have this tablet, and can say for the most part does what is says,

If your needing hard drive space make sure you buy an sd card for your files, or music as you will run out of harddrive space fast.

Run windows 8 consumer preview flawlessly, full hdmi support video, and audio through hdmi.

Way over priced you can buy a 13 inch laptop...

This review is from: Acer ICONIA W500P-BZ841 10.1" 2GB 32GB SSD Tablet Gray (Personal Computers)
I have this tablet, and can say for the most part does what is says,

Run windows 8 consumer preview flawlessly, full hdmi support video, and audio through hdmi.

Way over priced you can buy a 13 inch laptop with larger hard drive, and faster processors for the price.

If your thinking about this tablet wait until end of year. windows 8 tablets will start coming out, price on this will drop.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of both worlds!, October 2, 2012

It is somewhat inaccurate to compare with a tablet or laptop - this one has both. It is indeed a full fledge computer with a side order of "tablet".

Of course, we all reserve the right of playing with many different toys! I have. One thing I like about tablets is the "app player" function. With Windows 8, this slate has it too. The app variety is small compared with Android, and infantile compared with iThings, but it is growing and so far quality is trumping quantity. There is also a program called BlueStacks which enables android apps in windows.

Then there is the computer side. This baby can do anything my laptop can do (it even includes the free docking keyboard). Touch screen and uber-portability are awesome features. All my programs from many years back work flawlessly. Using a stylus helps with the less in-your-face touch menus in the desktop side.

Regarding the storage capacity, 32GB great for tablets but is not a lot for computing, but there are several ways around it. The easiest and cheapest is to use its full size SD card slot. Fast cards are priced very reasonably; you can double the storage capacity for less than $20. I have gone as far up as 64 GB with not compatibility issues. For the geekier crowd, changing the internal drive for a much bigger one is not very difficult and increasingly affordable.

This slate deserves 5 stars in form, functionality and reasonable price point.

4.0 out of 5 stars dynamite comes in small packages, October 20, 2012
This review is from: Acer ICONIA W500P-BZ841 10.1" 2GB 32GB SSD Tablet Gray (Personal Computers)
10/18/2012: acer w500p touch screeen with docking keyboard, c-60AMD which includes the turbo boost to 1.3ghz, and the upgraded graphics chips, windows 7 os, 32gb hard drive, 2gb ram, bought this extremely cheap at a thrift store thinking for that little money i'll try it out. ive always used 14-15 inch systems otherwise. i really like this 10.1 inch unit, using it right now. ive sampled other units of this size but never was thrilled enough to pay 450 or more for small units with little power. this one is not extremely different but it does what i want it to with ease. i dont play major games and this woudnt be good for that. i dont do 3d graphics so this might not be good for that. it does internet services well, word documents excellently, runs most typical user software without glitches, and generally functions as a decent viewing screen for overall tasks. it's not a power house unit like an i5 or i7 intel chip might be, but for a small extremely portable and reliable system this is good. very good. battery life is definetly upward of 4 hours and have even gotten 6 without trying. i might add, acer has never been my go to brand. this system was manufactured feb2012.

now the not so good. these problems are annoying at first but get softer on ones psyche after breaking the unit in. ive been using it for two weeks straight and can now live with the small issues: 1. the keyboard dock could use a dvd drive. niether the dock or the tablet have one. niether is it absolutely necessary but it is convenient to have sometimes. 2. the unit should come with a stylus, maybe it did but remember i got this at a thrift store. you will need the stylus unless you have pencil point finger tips. 3. the tablet when in the dock is back heavy. what i mean is the tablet outweighs the keboard thus tipping backwards is likely when lifting the unit up. this could cause one to drop the system. just sitting on a flat surface there is no problem, everything remains stable. 4.if you use the tablet alone you'll want a case that creates a back stop for it, otherwise its a bit cumbersome holding it in one hand and trying to perform tasks with the other. plus having the protective carrying case allows you to put all the accessories in one travel pack and go. 5. other reviewers have said the following; taking the tablet apart from the docking station is a rather simple task, but attaching the two together is a bit tricky. then taking them apart is again tricky. not so problematic but one has to get used to it to even like it. when the two are attached and locked, they remain secure. 6. the keyboard is not very sensitive and i dont think there is a way to make it more so. sometimes it really takes a typewriter stroke to activate the key. however theere is an onscreen keyboard that functions by touch and that is easy to use. 7. not an issue but something to know. holding the tablet allows the screen to rotate to different positions. at the bottom edge of the case is a small sliding button that locks the screen. i didnt know this for quite a few days. the screen kept shifting on me when i didnt want it to, and i sometimes couldnt get it to shift back as quickly as i wanted it to. locking the screen has been the fix. 8. no mouse pad. but not absolutely necessary with a touch screen and stylus. still i find myself trying to move the curser with my fingers searching for a nonexistent mouse pad.

well thats about it. i would have given this a five but in general it lacks deep computing power, has some annoying technical issues, and takes getting used to to really like what you have. but for me and the price i am extremely satisfied. got rid of my big clunker and mainly use this. had it been a 12 inch screen i might have given a 1/2 star more. i still would not want to pay 450 for this or for that matter most any other tablet costing that much or more. for the meager $200 i paid for a brand new open box unit, hey, i hope you can get so lucky.

1.0 out of 5 stars display problem - factory could not even fix, December 18, 2012
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Acer ICONIA W500P-BZ841 10.1" 2GB 32GB SSD Tablet Gray (Personal Computers)
I had to reformat the hard drive, install multiple updated drivers, even send the thing back to the factory, and still the display is unstable and barely usable.
