I am happy with this machine's hardware in general, however, there is a very large flaw - the Solid State Drive used for booting only is a great idea in principle, but these drives do not have a great record when you combine them with Windows 8 and the fact that you cannot get assistance in resolving problems from Acer Support. I lost power suddenly yesterday, and was not in front of the PC when it happened, When I came back, the machine was stuck in Automatic Repair hell. I am an experienced user, although not intimately familiar with Windows 8 yet. So, I went to do the stuff I know to do when you realize that your boot drive has been corrupted. BIG PROBLEM though - there are no user accounts associated with the SSD, so I am denied access to it to try to do my own bootfix repairs. So, I get in an online chat with a "tech support" person from Acer, and all she can tell me basically is that I am wrong, my machine did not come equipped with an SSD, and I should just remove it. She also suggested that all I would need to do is spend another $19.95 for a recovery disc and all my problems will be over. Despite the fact that I told her that I already have a Windows 8 CD in my possession.

As of today, I am still trying to work this out, but I suspect that I will be returning the PC after Thanksgiving if I have not been able to resolve. I realize that a lot of this is a Microsoft issue, but I feel that other potential buyers should be aware of the problems with this system configuration before spending money on it.

I received the computer and was able to plug everything in and turn it on with no problems. Windows 8 takes a bit of getting used to but aside from the live tile startup page there's a link to a desktop view that's basically Windows 7. I used to be into gaming pretty heavy and had upwards of 80 games installed on my last gamer. This one will only see my flight simulator games for now and anything that might look to hard to pass up in the future. This is a fast gamer. Rating wise I would put it at a strong 7 on a scale of 10 compared to systems in the thousands like the Alienware beasts. It's definitely a good purchase possibility if you're on a budget looking to get a good rig.

Ordered this and when it arrived it wouldn't boot up, Amazon was wonderful, and had replacement out promptly. Second machine
kept restarting because of an error??. When I called Acer support I was informed that software problems were not included in the warranty.

So what to do? Didn't want to return another so paid $149 to Acer for a year policy that included 5 software problems.

Excellent computer for the money but was very disappointed in the warranty.....I really do like it, but am afraid of future problems.

Good upper mid level video card. Tons of hard drive space. Crazy amount of RAM. Very fast processor.

I just wish the included SSD was bigger than 24GB. At least there is an open bay for another one.

My first one actually died within two days of arrival. Amazon paid to overnight ship a second one...I've had that for more than a month and I've had no issues so far.

Update: 5-7-2014---I've had the (replacement) desktop for over six months now. I haven't had any issues so far. I've seen some comments from people about Windows 8.1 upgrades and driver issues. I only just upgraded to 8.1 last night, and that's months after it was available. So far, no Windows 8.0 or 8.1 issues.

Because I use this as a gaming rig, the original keyboard and mouse were replaced (the included keyboard is pretty cheap for a $1300 system) and those are fine too.

I'l be adding a newly ordered additional hard drive (SSD) soon. The onboard 24GB SSD is too small for anything except Windows only. I'll be migrating Windows plus major programs to the new SSD, with files staying on the huge 3TB traditional hard drive.

I bought this as a heavy gamer with a lighter wallet. I appreciate the build quality and the fact that Acer included a torx screwdriver. I was wary of Windows 8.1 but it in no way affects use or performance since you can ignore the metro ui and proceed to the regular desktop.

The GTX660 is meeting my needs and performs quite well with games like Skyrim, Diablo 3 on high settings. The upgradeable nature of the build will make it easy to swap in a new graphics card. Also hot swappable HDD and available slots allow for more storage.

This machine comes with MS Windows 8. The OS is welded to the system BIOS and the machine is welded to the OS. Not a good combination if one wants to upgrade the system to use an SSD. The machine comes with a "flash drive" which is really just a large cache for the rotating drive. It took over a week to clone the OS to a new SSD! Now, the agony to move from Windows XP (which we used for over 8 years) to Windows 8 and then to 8.1...not a pretty story. The final product is now very fast, very stable and we'll see how long it lasts. Oh, turning the system up was easy...waiting for the 72 updates and then doing the upgrade to 8.1...bring your lunch, it won't be a trivial task. And I've been doing this for over 30 years...

After struggling with the onerous amount of unwanted or unneeded bloatware, I'm about ready to trash this machine. Stopping the pop-ups, videos, adware, marketing trash, solicitations and "surveys" is next to impossible. Blocking and/or attempting to block the junk results in most bloatware appearing anyway, and actions that you do want to take place will be stopped. Being asked 50 to 75 times to allow a popup ad gets a little tiresome, not to mention impeding real, productive work.

As is, as sold, and as delivered, I've changed my rating to one star...I would have selected no star if it were possible.
